Last night 159 people voted in a straw poll at the 10th district debate. Participants were asked to rank their first choice for Congress before the debate and after the debate. It is interesting to see that some minds were changed by the debate. Hollinghead doubled his support following the debate while Lind’s support was halved. Marshall gained support as did Wasinger. Comstock lost support, but remained the overall favorite by a large margin, and Savitt’s support remained the same.
Before the debate:
Comstock 67.92%
Marshall 12.58%
Hollingshead 8.18%
Lind 8.18%
Savitt 1.89%
Wasinger 1.26%
After the debate:
Comstock 57.23%
Hollingshead 16.35%
Marshall 16.35%
Lind 4.40%
Wasinger 3.77%
Savitt 1.89%

Important to note that this was (a) a straw poll (b) not a true “before-after poll” as participants marked their “before” opinion and “after” opinion at the same time, following the debate. In other words, it would have been easy for candidates and staff to manipulate the “after’ numbers in order to try to show how much support their candidate gained over just the course of the debate.
Kate you are absolutely correct. Just due to the logistics and the short time frame that we had to throw everything together it would have been impossible to get all respondents to both fill out a form beforehand and afterwards.
We also would have struggled with the fact that we would not have been able to guarantee that the same exact people voted beforehand and afterwards and so technically the results would have been much more easily manipulated.
Not a criticism of the process, just important to note how the poll was carried out so that we can have a more transparent process.
Thanks for all the work you guys put into the debate!
Seems pretty clear that there is no consensus on who the anti-Comstock is … Hollingshead is overperforming and Marshall is underperforming.
One of them should drop out and endorse the other.
Or they should each compete for votes on their merits, and not as some fabled white knight blocking the imagined dangers of conservative Barbara Comstock as dreamed up by delusional fanatics.
Right on. I’m really disappointed that people I respect and admire (not to mention one that I have zero respect for) have engaged in such a smear campaign. There’s always a place for comparing and contrasting records, but not when you make up that record.
Or dreamed up by a certain cat who fears being put down by Animal Control Officers acting on the direct orders of the AG and POTUS (which of course is fully sanctioned by Barbara Comstock).
I wish I could say I was making this up, but sadly I can’t.
