UPDATED: The motion to adjourn until Monday at noon fails 279 to 155 with a large number of Congressmen changing their vote after the time expired. Chanting began “One more time”! Just before midnight the 15th round of voting has begun.
————————–
On the 14th vote, Rep.Kevin (R-CA) did not secure the votes needed to be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives. At the last minute, Matt Gaetz voted present as did Lauren Boebert. After Gaetz voted he was surrounded by Congressman talking to him and then Boebert. Neither were persuaded to change their vote. At that point, McCarthy had 216 votes, one vote short of winning.
The vote was McCarthy 216, Jeffries 211, Biggs 2 (Crane and Rosendale), Jordan 2 (Biggs and Good), and Present 2 (Boebert and Gaetz).
They are now, at 11:12 pm taking a vote on a motion to adjourn until Monday at noon.
We will update the post with the results of that vote, in about 10 minutes.
