In Virginia you are either a Wahoo fan or a Hokie fan. Â The Hoos are not a fish, well technically they are a fish, but in Virginia it means you support The University. Â And Hokies are NOT a Turkey, it’s a Hokie bird and it means you are crazy for Virginia Tech which in Virginia is simply called Tech.
Every Virginian knows what HTTR means.
In Virginia we know that a slug is not always the slimy thing on the ground but a line of people in a sanctioned hitchhiking line.
We like Sweet Tea or Extra Sweet Tea, and no that doesn’t mean tea with a bunch of sugar packets stirred into it.
When talking to a group of people we say y’all and if it’s a larger group it’s all y’all.
I’m sure your Mama taught you that the ugly can be applied to behavior. When a child says or does something rude a Mama will tell that child to stop being ugly.
We say “Bless your heart” and sometimes we even mean it.
In Virginia T.J. means Thomas Jefferson, of course. Â If you’re from NOVA it means Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology the school that nearly every parent wants their child to get into. Â If you’re a UVA student or alum, it means the founder of your school, Mr. Jefferson.
