As you probably know, Americans donate more money to breast cancer research than they donate for any other disease and yet breast cancer is not the disease that kills the most Americans. It’s not even second, or third. [read_more]Americans donate over $257 million to breast cancer, a disease that kills 41,374 a year. Compare that to heart disease which kills 596,577 people per year and receives $54 million in donations, a fifth of what is donated to breast cancer. Even more striking is the second leading cause of death among Americans, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) which kills 142,942 Americans annually and Americans only donate $7 million. Clearly Breast Cancer is the favorite disease of Americans even if it doesn’t kill as many of us as other diseases.
