This trial just gets worse and worse. We are now in full Soap Opera mode. Today’s episode entitled “As the Marriage Fails.” Bob McDonnell says the marriage is “basically on hold”, whatever that means. In court this morning McDonnell testified about the state of his marriage, admitting that the couple is not currently living together. [read_more] From reporter Joe St. George,
Are you living together now? “No” Bob responds. A week before trial he has been staying at St. Patricks Church rectory.
The Governor’s testimony today must have been very difficult as he discusses the details of a marriage gone bad with an angry wife who refuses counseling and a husband who is clueless about what she’s doing and how much money she is spending. The Governor knows his wife has spent a weekend in New York with Jonnie Williams on a shopping spree but never asks how much money was spent.
Bob testified that he did not know the price of Jonnie Williams shopping trip until a month after investigation broke in news.
McDonnell reads from a long letter he had written his wife in September 2011. He writes the letter because of her ‘uncontrollable anger’ and ‘because maybe we are done’. He goes on to say that he loves her, she’s his ‘soulmate’ but
“I want to be in love not just watch movies about it.” “I am lonely sometimes” Bob McDonnell writes in his letter.
Meanwhile it is Bob who is away from the family one-third of the year because of political obligations. Maureen must have been lonely too.
All the sordid details of this love gone wrong saga can be found here.

Today’s testimony really made MoMo look bad. Not sure how it could get much worse. And in addition to all that heartache, I bet he wasn’t getting any either.
This is the first time during the trial I felt actual pain for Bob McDonnell. He was suffering quite a bit behind the scenes. It is amazing he made it this far politically with so many problems at home.
It pains me too. It’s all just so sad.
Very sad that this administration is so insistent on destroying ANY possible Republican candidate for 2016…McDonnell is just one on the list. As I understand it…he did nothing illegal by VA law but the FEDS are trying to make an example of him? Do I think the things done were not to smart? YES. But if according to VA law he did nothing wrong…leave him the hell alone. I hope the is found not guilty and can get back to a somewhat normal life. I can’t imagine how embarrassing this must be for him and his family. Now we have McAuliffe who will end up either leaving to run with Hillary (we can only hope), will totally destroy the state or will end up with more stink on him than McDonnell could ever imagine.
I couldn’t agree more. The only thing that saves us from McAuliffe is a democrat House of Delegates and State Senate. They are our only protection.
Terry McAuliffe has had an ethics investigation attached to virtually anything he had his hand in. It’s in his DNA and it’s only a matter of time until he slips. I hope someone who knows how it is done is watching his every move!
he has been charged with several crimes. the jury has yet to decide if he broke any laws.
Virginia laws are not the only laws out there, you know
He’s not being tried in a Virginia court but in a Federal court. That’s why he’s on trial for breaking a Federal law, not a Virginia one. Do you understand the difference between Federal and state laws, and Federal and state courts?
Why are democrats always so angry and nasty?
Yes, I do know the difference. I was an investigator for many years. In most/many cases IF he has not broken any state laws the Feds won’t pursue because he was not a Federally elected official. This administration has an agenda…destroy any Republicans. IMO they have NO useful ideas or positions to run on so that’s the only way they can win…lies, exaggeration and false indictments. Perfect example Gov. Perry.
