President Trump has presented Congress with a federal budget proposing large cuts in government agencies and programs. Unfortunately, Trump’s budget has little chance of passing on Capitol Hill. Virginia’s delegation weighs in on the budget cuts here. Economist and Congressman Dave Brat (VA07) speaks on the budget:

Dave Brat – brilliant, as usual.
He changed his tune on Social Security being insolvent, now he says it will be insolvent in 2034. That is 17 years.
Why in the hell are they worried about what is going to happen in 17 years? Because they want more of our money now to piss away buying votes. They do not want to pay back the Social Security Trust, (2.9 TRILLION) and the 2 Medicare Trusts. They are trying to deceive everybody.
Dave Brat has the good sense to speak the truth about the budget. He could have made the same speech eight years ago, only the numbers were not as terrible then as they are now. Yet the Democrats have the same tired old message “We can’t cut back now”. “We need to take a little more money from the rich” (defined as anyone not already dependent on government, plus all businesses). Spineless Republicans don’t want to upset anyone. “We’ll fix it next year”.
C’est la vie. We’ve ignored the debt problem so long that nobody even believes it’s a problem anymore. We’re repeating the same story that has played out many times in history… and this story never ends well.
You are absolutely correct about the definition of rich but I would add that the Democrats think anybody who works is rich and anybody who succeeds in even the smallest amount is rich. They are the party of the socialist welfare state and they have launched attack after attack on the rights of free individuals to prove it.
The socialist welfare state is draining the treasury and destroying the American work ethic. Domestic social spending is well over two thirds of the federal budget and is the cost driver for the annual deficit and long term debt. If anyone wants to see where this is headed, I suggest a review of the situation in Western Europe. The supposed refugees are destroying the welfare systems of Europe and there aren’t enough taxpayers to prop it up. One can also look at California’s ridiculous proposal for single payer healthcare.
Oh the Baby cries …. wwah wwwhhhahhhh whaaaahhhh! ….
No lesser economist than the Creative Word of God analyzed human economies and advised as recorded in Matthew 25:
31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungered, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
This record regards the wellbeing and sustainability of nations – “before will be gathered all nations” (not individuals, as so many unsound exegetes say) – so, we can be sure that ALL NATIONS will IN FACT – not Fake Fact! – be judged on this standard of political economy.
So, go ahead and cry Baby …. wahhhhhh! WAHHHHH! whhhahhahahah …. Because that is the way it is and the way it will be.
And when nobody can be fed or clothed or helped? There is no unlimited supply of things but there is an unlimited demand for things. Jesus ministered to a community of the faithful and everything said above is his biblical admonition, but the history of mankind is not one of pure ideals but of realities and practicalities. To my knowledge, Jesus never said starve a child to feed another. Also, Jesus never appealed to government to impose itself through taxes. It was charity that counted.
As reported in Matthew we see a social-economic system praised by God, and rewarded by God, that uses sharing to ensure a good life for others by meeting essential needs for all. Accumulation out of fear for the future, for the sake of self-centered needs, or for pursuit of personal profit, is not rewarded.
2 Thessalonians 3:7-10 –For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate. For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.
I enjoy playing this scripture game. I bet you like the one where Jesus told everyone to trade their coat in for a weapon so they could open carry, too. I sure do!
Pardon
but you have only stated an important command to INDIVIDUALS: that they should contribute, through their work, to the well being of others in the community of faith and broader community which the community of faith serves. YES, INDEED, we all should. Some will work with higher wages and more resources and some will be able to provide little. No surprises there. What was your point?
You have not made any change to the words of Jesus, the Lord, recorded in Matthew 25 which is TO NATIONS not individuals. Jesus commands – COMMANDS! – nations – NATIONS! – to share to ensure that all in the nation have a good life.
Apostle Paul, recorded in Thessalonians, asks the people of the community of faith to serve one another through their work. NOTE: Apostle Paul is in NO WAY endorsing profit making, growing wealth, competing in the market, or ANYTHING we know as ‘Capitalism’.
SO READ IT AND UNDERSTAND. THESE are the clear and obvious meanings of the texts.
I do not think apostle Paul was opposed to individuals doing good for all and profiting individually so more good works could occur. Capitalism, by the way, is another word for individual freedom.
I remind you that the initial settlers tried socialism and found it didn’t work because some were industrious and others lazy. The survival of the colony depended on the contribution of all and those who refused to work did not eat. Welfare, by its very nature, separates those who give from those who receive. Thus there is a lack of reward for both.
We agree that Apostle Paul – as a man of his time and a man of the Hebrew Bible – would have appreciated the the workers should be treated with utmost fairness and that all labor would be regarded equitably: that is the farmer contributes to the Hebrew people and the soldier contributes to the Hebrew people and the rag picker contributes to the Hebrew people and all at equal under God and their work is equally praised. All the Hebrew people crossed the Red Sea – under God’s protection – EQUALLY; all the Hebrew people arrived to the Promised Land EQUALLY. Not in rank order.
Laissez faire Capitalism indoctrinated in a very different way: to believe that some people are BETTER than others (White people are better, Rich people are better, Tall people are better, Pretty people are better, etc … and therefore all others should be glad to help that get RICHER) and that they DESERVE to be RICHER and MORE POWERFUL that all others. That is an un-Godly doctrine. Christians have for too long followed – without criticism – that un-Godly doctrine,
AND
Secular Socialism indoctrinates toward authoritarianism – as Marx wrote himself – about the late stages of Marxism. And as we are seeing in secular socialist societies. Authoritarianisms are un-Godly because they impinge upon the God-given liberty, and, as we see, under Satanic influence impinge upon liberty to worship God. Socialisms that uncritically embrace authoritarianism have abandoned the Godly wisdom of equitable sharing for the good lives of all living things – since God created each and every living thing as ‘good’ (clearly, from the creation accounts in Genesis).
So, America, to be Godly, must embrace the Matthew 25 commands while leaving room for God-given liberty.
The Founders – wisely, or miraculously – wrote that ‘balance’ into the Constitution. Americans who wish American ‘to be great again’ must respect the Constitutional principles whereby ALL AMERICANS – including ‘strangers in the land – including the weak, sick, old, disabled, less talented, ugly, weak minded, etc – are included in prosperity that allows all to have a good life.
Which candidate are talking about that?
Who led the jews out of Egypt. Who went up on the mountain and brought back the 10 commandments. Who condemned the worship of Idols. Treating people equally doesn’t mean that there is no leadership and no standards associated with the worth of individuals.
Capitalism gives worth to the individual in accordance with their value to society. This idea that the creation of wealth is not Godly and that individuals should not benefit from their creation is not biblical.
You rightly point out that socialism lends itself to totalitarianism but you miss the point that free individuals interacting freely (but not perfectly) in society will yield prosperity for almost all. When government intrudes, individual freedom’s social space shrinks and prosperity suffers accordingly. The growth of the welfare state is the example of how government, rather than adding to prosperity by freeing individuals, is subtracting from prosperity by enslaving individuals. Every city has its government controlled welfare ghettoes – and nothing is done to stop or reverse the enslavement of such ghettoes.
It seems that you are allowing your favorable bias toward laissez faire Capitalism (an atheistic ideology/idolatry that is relatively new in world history) to color your reading and hearing of the Word of God, with is ancient upon ancient. We all must understand our own biases that we – as human persons in particular historical, cultural, and linguistic worlds – bring to hearing and reading of God’s Word. I recognize that my own biases can arise from being raised among working class, working family farm, in late 20th century Virginia, that had a foundation and overlay of White Supremacist laws and history. I must recognize those biases. A big part of recognizing those biases is to always confront the idolatry of White Supremacy. We invite you to inquire into your own biases that impair your hearing and reading of the living ancient and eternal Word of God.
If supporting the Constitution, a document largely created by Christian men of the cloth, is bias, then count me in. The last two sentences of your comment are not only anticonstitutional, anti Bill of Rights, and anti liberty, but racist as well.
Sorry, you are deceived by un-truth. Satanic has power over you if you allow Satan to have that power.
It is TRUTHTFUL to speak about a prayerful process of recognizing bias. God requires it:
We know, from God’s Word, that we are prone to blindness to our own sin, bias, idolatries: 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
We know from God’s Word, that truth-fulness is measured by loving kindness toward others: 1 Peter 1:22 Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart.
We know that those who follow the Lord Jesus Christ are created new/born again, and have the power graciously given through living Holy Spirit of God to discern truth, and to love, through their re-birth/new creation: James 1:18 In fulfillment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
This new creation/re-birth in the power of God’s Holy Spirit gives us power from God to deny the power that Satan holds us with. Satan largely holds us with the power that we allow Satan to have with us. Satan does not hold with a wall around us, chains upon us, or physical bonds, but rather with the spiritual bonds of idolatries.
White Supremacy is among the greatest inventions of Satan to put millions and tens of millions and hundreds of millions into bondage. Anyone who allows White Supremacy to be part of their thoughts, actions, and prayers have given Satan power in their lives.
White Supremacy is clearly an offense against God’s sovereignty, a heresy against Christ’s Incarnation, Redemption, and Atonement, and idolatry.
I wonder if you know what capitalism is. Here is a definition from Ayn Rand. Capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights. I add: Laissez-Faire means no government intrusion in the private affairs of individuals. Socialism is considered the polar opposite of capitalism, thus it is a social system based on the recognition of government supremacy. I add: socialism is inherently totalitarian in that it interferes in what should be private affairs.
Miles Roche noted that the Nordic states are socialist but not totalitarian. He needs to be re-educated.
The Word of God endorses neither Captialism nor Socialism. I have described from exegesis of Matthew 25 what it does endorse as a nation’s political economic foundations.
The word of god is focused on the individual. When Jesus spoke, even to crowds, he spoke to me and he spoke to you.
Do you realize how stupid and un-Biblical that sounds when we claim that Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?
There is nothing godly or Christian about socialism.
I think we already agreed that secular socialism is not found in the Bible.
Idle hands make the devil’s work.
As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.
The God’s of the Copybook Heading.
Amen!
Sharing under threat of legal punishment is not sharing, it is using government to take. Sharing because it is the right thing to do is sharing, it is accomplished by the charitable goodwill of individuals who both give and receive. This idea that welfare is charity is bunk, and it is proving to be bunk with the passage of time. I guess you missed the biblical admonition to store up grain in anticipation of the lean years. Accumulation for the sake of accumulation is self defeating.
SORRY, BUT, the Matthew 25 parable and other parables often regard how wisely one follows COMMANDS. Godly commands – that involve wise sanctions – are not un-Godly. e.g. God loves life and a law that commands no killing is a Godly law. A law that commands and sanction safe driving – to avoid accidents, injuries and deaths – is a Godly law. A law that commands industries to produce without any pollution is a Godly law. Etc. Start with a Godly screen for any law or regulation: e.g. as a general rubric, if it helps to preserve life if is LIKELY a Godly law. Other questions of the law or regulation can follow from that.
The first question I ask is whether, under the Constitution, is this the business of government or should it be left to the people. The Constitution is the Godly framework for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in America. The Constitution is quite clear on what the limits of government should be but, politicians being politicians, they found an escape clause the has truly damaged the entirety of constitutional government and the associated rule of law.
Your specific examples of Godly laws are questionable.
The highway system is constitutional, but the demands for seat belts and air bags is not. As a matter of fact, the demands of the people for safer automobiles and transport directly affected the producers of said vehicles. I note that safety was a key component of Volvo advertising.
There is no specific constitutional limit or control on pollution. However, it became prudent for many industries to control pollution because it was damaging the work environment and the health of customers. An example of where such anti-polution laws go astray is prohibition. When the government stepped with an amendment and enforcement of alcohol elimination, it did not work because people still wanted to drink. But it is actually far worse than prohibition because through the EPA the government is now attempting to control things like mud puddles and is actually stopping national industrial and manufacturing progress. Just plain stupid.
Oh look! Those on the right have life eternal. Those on the left will burn in hell. The only problem here is the politicians aren’t Jesus, but all of us sheep and goats are getting slaughtered. Time for the Occupy Tea Party.
Of course, honey lamb,
when you are standing before the king, with the place of honor at the king’s RIGHT hand
that right hand side of the king, IS ON YOUR LEFT!
So, from the perspective of the human community standing before the king, the king’s ‘right’ hand is the human community’s ‘left’ side.
DUH!
Can you tie your shoes all by yourself or did you need help?
Most left side human communities end up with a whole bunch of skulls displayed in windowed boxes.
1) Trump and the Republicans lied to this country last month about healthcare. The Republicans said they would put competition in the healthcare industry to make it affordable. Yet, not one word in the Trumpcare plan that would in anyway create competition in the healthinsurance/healthcare/drug industries, not one single word. The Republicans promised to repeal Obamacare, and now? Silence.
2) Trump lied about the wall. Said Mexico would pay for the Wall. And now, Trump wants me to pay for the Wall.
3) Brat talks about passing $20 Trillion in debt onto the children. Why does he not talk about the debt we put on the children for the cost of a college degree? When can we expect Brat to stop talking and actually do something?
As long as the Feds stay involved with healthcare, things will only get worse. Obamacare was another handout program and what the republicans are doing is, unfortunately, a too small step to getting government out of the taxpayer pockets.
Mexico will pay for the wall. If they don’t cooperate for a few billion, trump will punish them in much more expensive ways using border controls and deportations. Anybody want an MS13 group running around in you town or village? (It will take a couple of years but if democrats can stall it, it will not be built. Too many RINOs playing here as well.)
There is an old saying “never a borrower or a lender be”. We have forgotten the concepts of fiscal responsibilty. Doesn’t matter what kind of debt or who owes it, it is bad news for any society or any individual.
The Feds were involved in healthcare long before Obamacare, and may be the prime reason we now have Obamacare.
Then if Mexico is going to pay for the wall, what is Trump going to do with the $1.6 Billion in the next budget that he says is for the wall?
We do not need any Wall. We need to build jails for employers who hire illegals.
Yes, the Feds were involved with health. Even prohibition was an attempt to use government to promote health. The Fed is great in certain health areas such as R&D, but ultimately the political desire for power and control overwhelmed the altruistic interests of people.
Medicare, Medicaid and Obamacare simply can’t account for individual health needs. Frankly, the founders never intended for the government to get involved in the personal lives of American citizens to this extent because they knew that the government could not meet unlimited personal demands but would try to do so at the he expense of individual, freedom and discretion. The American government was set up to provide minimal and necessary national services not to provide for every individual demand or even need.
Bottom lines be is that the Contitution does not work with the corrupt society that we have become.
Well, if that is the case, then Presidents are kings and we don’t need the congress or even the judiciary.
THE corrupt being whom? and the corruption being what? …. just saying ‘corrupt society’ takes us NO WHERE in a rational discussion toward remedies.
As far as the $1.6B for the wall, it is starter funds which will be recouped when the USA gets control of its immigration and borders.
I haven’t seen the accounting, but I suspect that Trump’s increased border security and deportation actions have already saved more than that amount in processing and support of illegals and reductions in gang and cartel crimes.
I like jails and big fines for employers who break any laws. But I also,r cognizant thatbthe law has to be applied equitably, and sanctuary states and cities are obviously not doing this. So, I assume you would be for fines and jail sentences for scofflaw mayors and governors.
Oh no, “starter funds” can be payed by Mexico, just as Trump promised. Anyhow, I do not believe Trumps immigration numbers. And, that Carrier plant Trump saved 800 jobs at just announced that its laying off 800 people.
Of yea, lock em’ all up!
Before you throw out a headline, it is important to read the whole story.
