Congressman Rob Wittman of Virginia’s first district will vote against Paul Ryan’s Republican Healthcare plan to replace Obamacare. He’s joining Virginia Congressmen Tom Garrett and Dave Brat in opposition to the bill.
On Monday in the Washington Post:Â
“After reviewing this legislation and receiving the Congressional Budget Office score today, it is clear that this bill is not consistent with the repeal and replace principles for which I stand,†Wittman said in a statement.
“I do not think this bill will do what is necessary for the short and long-term best interests of Virginians and therefore, I must oppose it,†he added.
“I do believe that we can enact meaningful health care reforms that put the patient and health care provider back at the center of our health care system, but this bill is not the right answer,â€

[…] My Representative Wittman then took the opportunity to keep that promise when on Monday he released a statement indicating in unequivocal language that he intended to vote against the AHCA. […]
Rob is a consistent conservative. The thing that bothers me the most at this point is a commitment made by the GOP prior to the election to repeal Obamacare. Just do it and then put in place something worthwhile.
The Speaker controls the House. Do I need say more?
The “commitment” was to repeal and replace, was it not? The only way Ryan could have come up with such a pro-rich, robinhood, screwed up health care bill? That’s easy. The Republicans got the healthcare/health insurance/drug companies to write the bill. Who is denying that claim?
Where is the free market competition in the GOP bill? Name one page, one sentence, just one word, that puts competition in health care? Where was the free market competition before Obamacare?
And now, hate radio wants to push an even bigger lie, “the good stuff will be in phase 2 and phase 3” of the GOP health care bill. What a crock of GOP BS.
The Republicans have one main objective, to take more money from the middle-class in order to wipe them off the face of the planet.. And the Democrats, what a joke they are.
We’re screwed.
Who knew? Apparently he has an interest in re-election.
Or a run for Senate.
That promises to be a crowded field. Carly, Laura, …
ewww and ewww.
If we’re very, very lucky.
Yes! Good man! Rand Paul has a very good plan that Ryan refused to look at. Maybe he should now.
Shame on Trump for endorsing Ryan’s plan.
A deal is a deal
What was the other half of the deal? What does the Donald get from endorsing junk?
I’d guess it went something like this: “Congress made this mess, if you think you can fix it, I’ll back your try, but if you can’t, then we do things my way.”
The Ryan POS can and should be correctly amended (how about matching the ones they sent to Obama)
But you can’t sneak pork and pay off backers in straightforward bills, so we get omnibuscare.
What part of ‘repeal and replace’ don’t they get? It’s a sequence not a combo.
“if you can’t, then we do things my way.”
No, nice thought though. If RYNOcare fails, “Donald & the Repubs” [tm] won’t get a chance. We’ll be a laughingstock and every fail will be blamed on Republicans. We’ll get a Dem for sure in under 4 years.
Then we pass the Rand Paul bill.
I’d rather take a chance on losing with Rynocare failing then losing for sure if Rynocare passes in its current incarnation.
Yes! I’ve been pushing that bill. Why can’t Congress also see that is poor best hope! It’s time we stopped being the stupid party.
Rand’s Plan only have a handful of supporters. Senator Paul’s plan is all about freedom and prosperity, which doesn’t fly with most elected representatives in Washington D.C.
