The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee thinks John Foust can beat Barbara Comstock in the race to replace Frank Wolf in Congress.  To that end they have pledged to spend $2.8 million in October for television ads.  John Foust has already raised $775,761 as of March, with more to come in fundraisers with democrat heavy hitters like Nancy Pelosi.  Democrats will do everything they can to help Foust win the 10th district.  We need to get behind conservative Barbara Comstock and do everything we can to support her candidacy.  We can’t afford to lose this seat in Congress.  Please consider donating to Barbara’s campaign, here.  Also please consider volunteering for her campaign here.  There is much to be done between now and November!

Can you discuss how Barbara C. lobbied for the cruise industry to take away our rights as US citizens when we leave a port on a cruise? I find this stand on her part very un-American and she is definitely a lobbyist being influenced by big business. We don’t need more lobbyists in the pockets of special interest in Washington!
Jeanine, thanks the article.
Could you give us some examples that show Comstock has been a fiscal Conservative in the GA?
Thanks
Happy to do it. The single biggest thing I can point to is Comstock didn’t buckle under party pressure, and pressure from Governor McDonnell, to support the massive transportation tax increase. Everyone in NOVA pays for that every single day with every purchase we make. Unlike many of her NOVA colleagues, Barbara voted against it. She knew that it would do nothing to solve any of our transportation problems but the money would be used to fund metro, something that benefits less than 2% of the population. Barbara voted with the people, not the party, and she is to be commended for that.
Ok, Speaker HB 2313 Howell was the chief sponsor of HB 2313. She votes NO to his bill. He is so upset with her NO vote that his PAC, Dominion Leadership Trust, gives her $250,422. Then, Howell for Delegate William, gives her another $90,000. Then the Republican Party gives her $137,000 to “squeak” out a victory last November. Boy were they pissed at her bucking the party on HB 2313! Guess they showed her a thing or two didn’t they?
Why? Because Wolf had turned in his retirement notice to party HQ, and she was the chosen one to replace him. But they had to buy her a win first.
She had “permission” to vote NO on HB2313. Then you could make the claim you did.
She has been in the VA. House since 2010, perhaps you would name a couple more things she has done to claim fiscal Conservative?
Jim, excuse me if I’m misremembering, but you’re voting for Mark Warner in the fall, correct? How does this square with your fiscal conservatism critique of Comstock?
Further, BTW, you’ve really tried to paint her into a no-win scenario, haven’t you? She’s damned if she votes the right way and gets party support, but she’d be damned if she voted the wrong way and (likely) got even more party support. Why is it so hard just to admit she did the right thing on taxportation?
Hang on partner, the choice between Warner and Gillespie is easy. Just what does Gillespie bring to the table? Passage of bills in the Senate like HR 1406? I will tell you exactly what he brings, a piece of Bush 43. Screw the poor, wipe out the middle-class.
Comstock voted the right say for the wrong reason. Hasn’t ‘t she supported every out of control spending budget that McDonnell came up with?
I could support a Republican who said NO to any budget increase that was larger than the GDP for the previous 2 yrs.. Name one?
And by the way, it looks like GDP shrank in the first quarter. So, instead of the current McDonnell/Howell proposed budget, I would think a 2 year budget smaller than the last budget is in order.
My Republican Del. told me the Dems. wanted a tax increase a few years back, and by golly, the Republicans stopped those Dems. But then when the Republicans got control, a six billion dollar tax increase. My Del. said that was twice what was needed at a town hall.
He voted NO to HB2313 also. But then what did he do? Well, he did what any good Republican would, he sent $30,000 to Speaker HB 2313’s Howell’s PAC.
Speaker HB 2313 Howell, and The “safari” Sen. Norment are RADIOACTIVE to any fiscal Conservative.
RADIOACTIVE!
Mr. Portugul,
I believe you are very naïve about how the political system actually works. The Speaker and the Republican Caucus support Barbara Comstock, as she is the best candidate–and the House Caucus will support their incumbents. Add to that, her votes are right. does she have to ascend in heaven in Mt Carmel to get your vote?
Might remind you–Ed Gillespie has not been elected to any office or voted on anything.
Ths statement does not hold any water:
“Just what does Gillespie bring to the table? Passage of bills in the Senate like HR 1406? I will tell you exactly what he brings, a piece of Bush 43. Screw the poor, wipe out the middle-class.”
“Might remind you–Ed Gillespie has not been elected to any office or voted on anything.”
A most timely reminder, and provocative of the question, is US Senator an entry-level political office?
No. Not at all. Then again, Ed Gillespie is not an entry level Republican. He has helped more Republicans get elected than anyone I know.
The man is a conservative Catholic.
Alexis-
Bottom line, it’s up to the candidate, him or herself to engender, inspire and gather the resources needed to win. Ed Gillespie inspires this enough nation wide to raise 3 million dollars over the last period.
Shak Hill is a great guy, but has not made enough of a name for himself in the Party to run statewide. Keep in mind, Bill Bolling, Bob McDonnell, Ken Cuccinelli spent years building a base and statewide organization to run statewide. Has Shak Hill done this?
Regards,
Pam
Come, Pam, let’s not delude ourselves. Gillespie was able to raise $3 million not on his vision of the future, but because he can be reliably be expected to carry water for the big corporate donors who are the ones who produce that kind of political cash in 95+% of cases where such an amount is raised.
We are watching a US Senate seat from Virginia being purchased by Wall Street, nothing more, nothing less.
Exactly. I believe attempted purchase. I am not sure why some people believe Warner is even remotely in distress? However, the economy will probably get worse between now and Nov. 2016.
The old money, or “bastard division” that put Bush 43 in office is still in charge. Gillespie and Comstock were part of the Bush failure that destroyed this country.
I hope J. Bush does run.
Another name pops up as Catholic, indicted Gov. Bob McDonnell. Then Ken Cuccinelli, Tim Kaine, Barbara Comstock. Jeb Bush.
Then you have 6 out 9 Catholics on SCOTUS, and they rubber stamped ObamaCare. Not sure what point you are trying to make when you say “the man is a Conservative Catholic”? Will that buy you a cup of coffee?
Another thing, there are so many Catholic’s in Bearing Drift, that I do not understand why they don’t hold Mass in there?
And another thing, Congressman Wittman voted yes to HR 1406, I gave him a mulligan on that. Why, because he knew it was DOA in the Senate.
If Comstock would just vote no on those budgets, I could get on board. You do not have any idea how much time, how many e mails, I have sent to Republicans I voted for, complaining about their tax and spend.
Just where was the Tea Party during HB 2313?
So now, I do what I have to do in the voting booth.
Steve, I notice that I appear to be the only one in this blog who gives praise to Congressman Wittman for his NO vote to the Bush Bailouts? This was a vote that supported free markets and Capitalism, and smaller Government?
Just where is it that you stand on that Wittman vote? Are you standing with Cantor and his YES vote to the Bush Bailouts, which was a no vote to Capitalism? Or, are you supporting Congressman Wittman’s courageous vote for free markets and Capitalism?
Just who was it that crossed the aisle and embraced Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and others? Was it Wittman or Cantor?
Was it you, or, was it me sir?
