[…] 25.Denver Riggleman wins in the 5th District […]
I’ll listened to the JFS Livestream and really enjoyed it. The production values were adequate, the panel was too big and included democrats. It was interrupted too many times, but that might have been the storm, or technical issues.
However, it should NEVER be allowed at ANY Republican process again. There was all the color commentary and snide quips we have come to love in the TBE comment section, but it was damaging to the candidates, the party, and the process. The reported ‘news’ was monitored and participants were communicating, and reacting to things on the show. Candidates and political players were sniped at, Democrat talking points were repeated an highlighted, and allowed a third party to muck with our brand.
Did the coverage affect the event? In any way?
It was good and interesting for those of us unable to be there, and it was Entertaining Radio. But it was NOT good for the 5th, the RPV, ANY of the candidates (save those that enable the radio show,) nor anything Republican.
It is my opinion that Mr. Fredericks should stick to destroying the ‘Fake’ media perception with his informative and entertaining media brand and NOT pretending to being a Republican with ‘Republican-ish’ positions.
You can either report on the Party, or you can BE in the party — not both.
Party pass, Guest pass, or Press pass — you may only choose one.
Now that is a thought worth saving.
Someone has a radio show, IMO
Promote the show, keep the guests coming on
Deal with callers , keep the advertising dollars going
Keep the station owners happy , retain good will with
The local community .
Inserting yourself in the political mix , inconsistently at best
Is not good , confusing to guests , advertisers , callers
And the people who pay your salary .
Promote your brand , in a consistent way
As a constitutional media participant. I would agree.
Question for you my dear Rocinante. Since I’m the Vice chairman of the County GOP and the Chairman of the Strasburg GOP x are you saying I shouldn’t be writing for TBE?
No, I’m saying that as an owner of TBE, you should have freed up the G6 to send TBE to the 5th for a liveblog.
Also, if it’s not clear, YOU are an example of the people keeping Conservativism and Liberty alive in the GOP by being active in the GOP and not being one of the separatist liberty/tea/libertarian/whatever special interest and social clubs.
Ahhh my dear Rocinante, you obviously went to the Ed Justo school of how to win friends and influence people.
Doesn’t help or improve the situation by taking my marbles and leaving. Doesn’t make me feel good doing so.
I’m sorry but you being exposed as the controlling interest of TBE by your most colorful candidate is absolutely hilarious. Funnier than my assumption that there is a TBE G6 corporate jet.
Schisms absolutely destroy the party, ‘holding your nose’ and voting for the nominee is a freaking tradition. When I repeatedly haul my sorry fanny to McCain and Mitt rallies, you can be darned sure that I’m going to force the same upon the ‘established’ Republicans.
Not so with every specialty affinity group that splits into mullahs and independent warlords. These ‘undocumented’ Republicans focus their zombie strengths upon overwhelming process meetings and procedural power plays.
Oh it was hysterical beyond words. Didn’t matter that I have nothing to do with publication of TBE – Mr. Justo said it, ergo it must be true. I held my nose and voted for McCain. Personally I loved Romney, even if he wasn’t a perfect candidate. But changes were needed, the base supported Trump, and it would be hypocritical of me to say that others needed to hold their nose and vote for my guy, and then me not do the same. I’m so sick of people expecting everything to go their way that it’s nauseating.
And my dear Rocinante – you should never apologize for laughing at my being the controlling interest/owner of TBE – it was one of those days in social media which shall live in infamy. We’re still joking about it on social media as much as when it was 1st suggested.
I joined the Tea Party in 2009 to help the GOP rediscover its roots, not to kill the party.
Many of us did, and those creating their own organizations, personality parades, and social clubs choose not to see that they are having exactly that effect. As separatists, they have a differing agenda – they seek ideological purity and encourage party disloyalty.
I think many don’t realize the incompatibility of these groups. Many in our party enable the separatists and ‘welcome’ them into our party processes. These fringe groups realize they don’t need to persuade Republicans to come back to the right when they can simply outnumber them at key meetings and events.
Go no farther than the forces of Shak embracing democrat party involvement.
VA5 could not have made a better choice in Denver Riggleman!
Virginia is having a great cycle for liberty this year! Cline, and despite sadly losing Tom Garrett who is one of the best we get Denver, and a chance to nominate Nick Freitas!
Wow. Virginia way to go!
Of course those of us on the outside and many of those on the inside think that VA5 _could_ have made a better choice, but only the 37 in that moment had maximum access to the necessary information and knowledge to make that decision.
I trust the 5th to make the right choice and do the right thing. I think they did.
I’m glad Virginia statewide had the opportunity to learn about Nick Freitas and I’m even happier that we will have Corey Stewart at the top of the ticket to help our nominees win bigly.
It is great to be a Virginia Republican.
Really? Virginia Republicans had the House and State senate….then passed medicaid expansion, which is a scam. People won’t sign up for medicaid! Just ask emergency rooms, who have people there to sign them up..they refuse. This is all about the money. Medicaid is a federal program. Why are they throwing crumbs to us…crumbs they will take away in the future?
I think the behavior of our state government will hurt us in November. People will think “why bother????”
I think we’re past the point of ‘why bother’ — it is a comfort saying for some, but I think the voters are seriously ticked off and the GOP isn’t giving the correct reassurances.
Oh boy! A pervert-approving knee-slappin’ special interest cuckservative. Perfect for Charlottesville. No doubt, a few in the 5th are downing a few 5ths right about now. Whiskey hellion.
They had to play the cards dealt. Did you want the democrat to win?
Might as well. Libertarians are anarchists. And I’m not fond of genocide.
While I agree with you about Libertarians are anarchists, it’s why they have been exiled.
But Denver is the party nominee and the choice for the voters is between the Republican who will mostly vote with you and the democrat who never will.
Most people who call themselves Libertarians haven’t really thought it through — look at how many people here self-identify as Libertarian.
Great choice by the 5th District nominating committee. But whether one supported Riggleman or Dunbar or Boneta or Stanley, we can all agree on one thing.
John Fredericks should not be allowed to predict election results in Virginia ever again.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
You are so right !! Boneta for second place?? HAHAHAHAHAHA
Fredericks’ drooling, warped love for traitor-dog Jill Vogel is another example of how falling hard on his head as a child affects him to this day. Remember this gem from Fredreicks “Bravo Jill Vogel. Guts. Fearless. Courageous. Stateswoman. She didn’t play the game. She’s a great lady.”
What a tool.
You’ll appreciate my next piece in TBE. Should be up sometime this weekend
Mr. Fredericks is a partisan, on the side of Fredericks. This is what Today’s media does, makes things news, winds people up, focused upon ‘good for ratings’
Our party is mostly boring. It’s supposed to be, but our politics in the new media is not focused on anything but sensationalism. Look at the comments and articles in TBE. Most of the sane people are the party regulars trying to save the GOP from itself.
Fredericks must use the same “Deep Thought” model Charles Cooper uses in making his fantabulus “predictions” for the Senate candidates. Still waiting for Cooper to reveal the superlious secret sauce that makes his models run.
He can predict them, he just shouldn’t be affecting them.
…..Perhaps watch for a new book ?? …..the guess-mated prophecies of Fredericks ??
There is a great deal of soul searching going on right now in the 5th district. The turbines are turning and there is an alternative candidate now. But, what if a 3rd candidate enters, and runs as an independent ?? That would be a bad actor idea, but in this atmosphere, it could occur. I would prefer it does Not, because it will send voters toward the liberal….perhaps.
The dems would love to facilitate a 3rd candidate, might be a money making opportunity for some undocumented Republicans.
Ms. Martin
Comments come from all places and reasons.
Good, bad , snarky ..
And then some.
Always good to know what’s out there.
I’ve recently seen a lot of deleted comments, I would prefer the poster to reply with a correction, or edit the comments and make a note. It’s much more fun to engage.
On the other hand, stomping out shills is always in order.
I prefer…on out dated ” insignificant ” comments, on occasion, to remove some, which no longer matter with their dated content. Amen ~
I get that, when there are no replies, but it makes the rest of the reply comments kind of incoherent. Also, when we are using TBE comments as a live-blog (Probably because Massoud wouldn’t spring to use the TBE Corporate Jet for a Mick Staton/TCC Albertson style liveblog,) our comment posts gain historical significance. For those of us listening to the show and simultaneously making comments, the frenzy and fog of war makes for an interesting afterglow. Rather than delete, I’m going to annotate where I can, because it looks better than a bunch of deleted’s (which cranks up my conspiracy detectorisms.)
What a horrible tragedy for America, Virginia, and the 5th District. First the GOP goes weak on defunding Planned Parenthood. Now, an official GOP committee selects an openly pro-gay agenda nominee. The betrayals never end. I’m glad no one will ask me to endorse THIS nominee.
I’m glad no one asked you.
Really.
Be very careful here personal beliefs, values and tradition are stomped on for monetary gain.
This site is in it only for
NOVA and that stands for;
NO
VIRGINIA .
When you support the Senate Candidate who desires to keep our Virginia history you are deemed RACIST.
I expect the same to come out very quickly here on these social
issues and for that you might be deem HOMOPHOBIC.
As a child of NAS Oceania my father retired and we moved back to his hometown in Carroll County a place where the wives did not allow alcohol in the home because it was the poison made by sinners to destroy families.
It doesn’t take a man with sight to see that some are just blinded by glimmer of gold.
Today I thank God that I live in Lynchburg the South Side of the James River where folks believe that the Separation of Church and State was to keep the State out of the Church NOT the Church out of the State.
Social issue stances can be widened and inclusive in a unifying way. Though I agree, it will be difficult for those of us who remain core Christian conservative. Perhaps the ideals of our new candidate can be polished and addressed to be more conservative. Lets await an official comment from candidate Riggleman for Congress rather than display thoughts previous of candidate for Governor Riggleman. Lets see where the lanes cross or lead first. What is the purpose driven platform ?
Hate the sin, not the sinner does not work for you?
It’s “love the sinner, hate the sin,” and it works just fine for me, but Riggleman’s position is “love the sinner, normalize and celebrate the sin.” That’s not a Christian worldview.
Not only that, but the 5th District Committee, the formally most conservative district in VA, just nominated a man who is not 100% pro life.
Did you want the seat or not?
What are you talking about ‘normalize and celebrate?’ Of course it’s wrong, but what should Congress and the Government do about it?
Do you want failing candidates who correctly virtuesignal? Come to the 10th and see what that gets you.
There are a lot of people who are not 100% pro life — There are a ton of them who don’t yet understand why less than 100% is worse than 100%. Do you want to teach them, help them to understand, or just discount them and kick them out of the club.
I would wager that when push comes to shove, Denver Riggleman will vote the correct way on any legislation that ‘normalizes and celebrates’ or goes against the 100%.
But do you want x % of votes cast by our elected nominee, or did you want 0% of the vote casts by the elected Democrat?
Of course I want the seat. So tell me how a man who holds liberal views on most social issues will energize the die hard social conservatives of the 5th District? Explain to me how someone who could never get above 2% in the polls in his only other race for anything is going to muster the support he needs to win? Explain how a man who could barely raise over $100,000 while running for Governor (with half of that coming from himself), is going to raise over half a million dollars in the next three months just to try and catch up with the Democrat in this race?
Dunbar was a much better fit for the district, had a campaign apparatus in place, and is a proven fundraiser. Riggleman has no idea what his is doing and his main consultant is busy running Ben Cline’s race in the 6th and losing the Senate primary for Nick Freitas. Rigglerman’s inabilty to raise money will cause him to be a drain on NRCC resources that could be better spent in more vulnerable races (unless the NRCC cuts their losses with him).
“I would wager that when push comes to shove, Denver Riggleman will vote the correct way on any legislation that ‘normalizes and celebrates’ or goes against the 100%”
I’m sure that’s what everyone said about the 17 Republican House of Delegates members and the 4 Republican Senators that just voted to expand Medicaid in Virginia. When push came to shove, they lay there cowering in the corner making excuses for their failure to stand up for what they know is right.
The difference here is, on social issues, you will never be able to count on Riggleman to stand firm in the face of political pressure in support of positions he has already told you he doesn’t believe in.
Paul Ryan and the rest of the swamp in DC are applauding the choice of Riggleman today.
Because when it comes down to it, the “die hard social conservatives” seem to be more interested in voting for a letter.
Oh, they stomp and stammer around but eventually they will hold their collective noses long enough to justify their “at least it ain’t Hillary” vote.
I would respectfully request that you cite some reference or example of candidate Riggleman partaking in a celebration of sin vs acknowledging that consenting adults should be left the hell alone.
Those consenting “adults” are the ones who do not leave others alone. Just ask the Christian baker or photographer, Chic-fil-a, or Hobby Lobby. Consider public restrooms harboring the mentally ill who don’t know which sex they are and public/corporate policy blessing such insanity. Then there are those expecting you to pay for birth control and infanticide. Silence is consent and tolerance of evil is evil.
Of course there’s is a culture war going on, but how can you possibly win when your only playing card is “Surrender or die?” That might work for political Islamists but it certainly isn’t Christian and it is a guaranteed fail.
I would agree with virtually all of your talking points if the where relevant to this partigular dialogue.
The feigned innocence and “but, but, what about them” defense should be reserved for the adolescents in the room.
I admire your blind loyalty to your #Never and futile faction.
But some political realities should be addressed.
1) Dunbar is radio-active. In any district.
2) Your faction is playing power games in the GOP and messing things up.
3) Stanley was the right choice, your faction mucked that up.
4) The 5th decided to go outside their stable because they are weak and have divided loyalties.
5) The 21 traitors turned because they have divided loyalties and are being compensated in other ways. They can do this because our party is weak and hollow.
6) YOU, and your ilk (faction) is what makes the party weak. You only support the nominee when it is your favorite — you are useless to the party. Your #neverness corrupts the body politic. If Cynthia Dunbar would have been the nominee you would have used the excuse for her loss as the party not supporting her.
Practice what you preach — Are we now going to hear about #never Riggleman, #never Cline and #never Corey for the rest of the election cycle?
Please tell us how wonderful Shak is for the party and movement, tell us of all the fine things he will do as Congressman.
Paul Ryan applauds your internecine political warfare destroying the conservative GOP and allowing the Swamp to grow and thrive.
Sadly you will hear about #nevercorey through November – assuming he wins the primary. Which most serious people expect him to win on June 12. There is no serious #nevercline movement in CD 6, and not much of a #neverdenver in CD 5 – however the new group “Alcoholics who are offended by Whiskey Rebellions” may play a major part. @@.
Yep, and a strong party would slap down such insurrection. You know, I believe that had we a united GOP, that wasn’t still being dismembered by the still ongoing cruzuccinelli wars, I think that Trump could have won Virginia, and we wouldn’t have been so blindsided by the last election. (Of course our party not bothering to field candidates in 27 races didn’t help at all.)
I have always been impressed by your ability to completely ignore any inconvenient information that doesn’t fit into your narrative.. Any time you are faced with arguments you either cannot or don’t want to respond to, like far too many Republicans today, you fall back on the old “NEVERTRUMPER!!” retort like it’s a nice, warm security blanket.
By hurling the “#never label at people, you believe it serves to completely dismiss any arguments or facts presented by that person because they are not allowed to be seen or spoken of in today’s Republican party. They are the excuse for all failures, and so you are able to abdicate all responsibility for anything that happens. This allows you to live forever in a blissful fantasy land.
I don’t have any problem with Cline. I like Ben. I don’t like the tactics used in his race, which just happened to be used once again in the 5th (I wonder why). I may think Corey tries to play too much like Trump but I would vote for him if he was the nominee..As for Riggleman, let’s just say I’m glad I don’t live in the 5th, but that’s apparently OK, because all day on Saturday I was laughing at the irony of seeing so many of you in the #unity camp displaying all of your #neverDunbar colors as Cynthia led every round of voting until the end.
.
Those General Assembly members didn’t vote to expand Medicaid because they have divided loyalties. They did so because they cared more about trying to keep their seats than doing the right thing. When you and other people vote to re-elect them next year, you will completely vindicate their belief that it doesn’t matter what promises they make or how they vote. All that matters is that they are part of your tribe.
It’s almost like they could shoot somebody in Times Square and not lose any votes.

When it quacks like a duck…
There is a time to be partisan and there is a time to be unified — there is never a time to be disloyal to the party and our nominees.
Much like our primary, where we asked the voters of Virginia to help us select our nominee, on their nickel, you and Shak and the rest of your separatist movement decided that you knew better and would use the letter of the party or overrule the spirit of the party.
I hurl the Latchcomb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5c7FL9QV1bs at the #never crowd after the contest is settled when you guys don’t want to accept it. If you look through the comments you’ll see where I urged unity even if the 5th went kooky and put in a political error..
Clearly you did not hear the dem stooges on the JF show salivating at the presumed Dunbar victory.
The 21 betrayers have divided loyalties because they put their own personal agenda ahead of the Commonwealth.
There is no place for ANY of them in the party nor those who support them. It was a mass retirement just not yet actualized.
So you’re choosing to grant all of my points in the previous post?
“there is never a time to be disloyal to the party”
Spoken like a true Politburo member. Dear Leader will reward you handsomely.
I’m sorry, but I cannot grant any of your previous points, especially since you have no idea what you are talking about, but that is not an uncommon failing of those who display blind loyalty to party over principle.
I guess you’re OK with the loyalty of Judge Jill and the 21 Medicaid Expansion votes.
Principle is for nominating contests, party is for generals. One would think you might have a little more political astuteness given your positions and history.
The party has been spared your separatist putsch for now. Shak is your last hope to get your #never into a nomination. Good luck with that.
You once again demonstrate just how little you know. Not only have I never weighed in on the Shak/Comstock race, but Shak Hill was neither a delegate or alternate to the RNC convention in Cleveland, nor any sort of player whatsoever in anything that went on there, but thanks for playing.
A political party is a collection of people organized to promote a certain set of ideals. For the Republican party, those ideals are set out in the RNC platform. A man’s principles are what define him, and in the world of politics will lead him to one party over another. If supporting a political party requires you to set aside your principles for party, then you truly have no party. If you are willing to set aside those principles simply to vote for one side over the other, then you truly have no principles.
He’s YOUR Golem:
“Shak Hill: The Consummate #NeverTrumper ?
Inside Ted Cruz’s novel strategy for winning from behind
Washington Post – April 14, 2016
Cruz’s Virginia co-chair Shak Hill said local supporters recognized last fall that there was a chance of a contested convention and prepared accordingly, helping identify and elevate staunch Cruz supporters over the hurdles they needed to clear to eventually become delegates.
Now, he is making bullish forecasts in a state where Trump won the primary. “My prediction is that we will come out with 60 to 70 percent voting for Cruz on the second ballot,” Hill said”
How superior you are for maintaining your ‘principles’ over your ‘party.’ It must be great to work with your to accomplish your awesome political successes. This must be why the 10th thought so much of you that you were elected to represent the 10th district at the RNC convention… or did you have a higher loyalty to your faction? Feh.
Well, the Washington Post reported it so it must be 100% true, right? Of course, if that is the case, then what are you ever going to do??? Vote for NeverTrump Shak Hill, or vote for NeverTrump Barbara Comstock?!?!?
I always enjoy listening to the “loyalty to party at all costs” crowd like yourself. You are the establishment’s best friend. Your group think would have you voting for Hillary Clinton as long as she had an R beside her name. Why do think they work so hard to make sure primary challenges against incumbents are both rare and typically unsuccessful? You keep the swamp in power. The irony is that you then turn around and complain about the very corruption and dishonesty you vote to maintain.
So this WP article is NOT true?
Shak Hill: The Consummate #NeverTrumper ?

Was he Cruz’s Virginia co-chair? Is that not Shak’s quote?
I’m happier with my ‘loyalty to party’ rather than your ‘disloyalty to party’ — there is plenty of time to further your nominee preference before the contest is resolved — after that, there is no room for #never.
Shak and your #neverTrump after the nomination and after the election is what perpetuates the swamp and gives cover to party separatists.
So you’re NOT a personal freedom valuing conservative.
Got it
Why? Are you a Republican?
This is fast becoming the chatter of the hour state wide.
Good, bad or indifferent.
Thank God sanity prevailed and Dunbar lost again. Now the GOP has a real chance to hold the seat.
No disrespect
God had nothing to do with it.
When faced with any follower of
Beelzebub , you have to kill it ..permanently.
You thought it was dead a couple of weeks ago?
It has staying power …watch those Walkimg Dead
Episodes for clues
It is just a saying that one says to express gratitude to the Almighty for a good turn, and Dunbar losing again saves two winnable races (VA-6 and VA-5) from going Democrat.
OK, understood.
God ALWAYS has EVERYTHING to do with it.
HE did not want Cynthia Dunbar in Congress from Virginia this cycle.
And praise Him for it! He again stymied the re-grow of the unholy, power hungry Cruz coalition in VA.
Rejoice and be glad in Him!
Your an asshole
Can you articulate why you believe there is something wrong with thanking God for keeping us from evil?
And please learn proper English. It is “you are” not “your”.
HE told me to watch the Walkimg Dead
That would explain the ratings.
Just a few hours after the Devils Daughter almost
Put the 5th CD Republicans in the tank for the next
Generation and from the look of things Riggleman
Already has his head spinning …
There must be a clue in the Walking Dead to all this.
How can you look at any of the Politics of the last several elections and not see a divine intervention?
Had it been anyone but Denver, the GOP would have lost the 5th.
Webert would have won.
Of the final two, the quitter is the least offensive, I suppose. I hope he will fully endorse the Trump agenda upon signing up for the Freedom Caucus.
Agree. It would be a fatal mistake to infect his campaign with any of that never nonsense. He needs all the friends he can get right now, including Trump.
(IMHO) When I see him, and others see him, I believe he can be possibly encouraged to think a bit more conservatively about his stance on social issues. Division is a disease inside political parties and the left will sniff that out, if we don’t try and nullify it a bit. They will use it as a negative dig. believe it. The worse situation is this stark flaming liberal the lib/socialists have offered up. Denver is not anything close to what’s going with the opposition candidate for this race. It will all come full circle, these are the first hours, let it settle for a moment. Amen ~
Yes, Denver has said he will join the Freedom Caucus.
I just hope he supports the Trump agenda, as well. I had to grow to like Tom after the shenanigans pulled during the convention in 2016, and was pleasantly surprised with his leadership as a freshman in Congress. I truly hate what he is going through right now. I hope I can be impressed by Denver as we go along. I will support him none the less. We know what a feckless leftist of the Perriloser ilk will do for Southside.
Great guy. Of all the outsiders in this race, Riggleman had the least negatives, I believe. We can win with Riggleman, but he will need a lot of help, and money. The 5th voted +16 for Garrett two years ago, and I think it was +9 for Gillespie last year. This is definitely a winnable race but we will need to support him.
He came through when the party needed him.
Absolutely ~ I know Denver and he is a sold conservative on most issues, a little different on some social stuff. We can keep it there for now. Zach is a very good conservative friend and colleague for a few years now and is also a friend and colleague of Denver as his former campaign Rep. ~ I think this will involve some very good conservative fixtures. against the liberal opposition. Amen !
