A couple of decades ago, a teenage relative of a good friend of mine went on a murderous rampage. He murdered his parents, booby-trapped his house, and then went to school where he shot a couple of other kids. My friend and I had many discussions regarding the situation that led to these murders. We suspected that prescribed psychotropic drugs were likely involved. Today, however, there is much more involved in mass murder than drugs and even violent video games.
The most recent mass murders have some distinct things in common. Alienation and its frustrating loneliness seem to be part of the murderous equation. None of these murderers had much of a family life. There was no obvious connection to friends. There were no romantic attachments to young women. There were no job prospects of import. If they had any religious background, it was not evident. Essentially, loneliness led to hate, and hate led to murder. Mentally and emotionally unstable individuals goaded by circumstances into committing the worst of crimes.
America’s cultural foundation has been shattered by the left, and the cultural instability created has led to personal instability in many lives. Frankly, the left has been quite successful in undermining almost every aspect of an American culture that won WW2. At one time, divorce and abortion were looked at as shameful. Now they are often extolled. The attacks on religion in public life are constant. To the left, religion is to be in church or home, or not at all. The attacks on religion are now transitioning to attacks on the nature of free speech in the public arena. Uttering a conservative thought or wearing a MAGA hat is dangerous in the land of the social justice warrior.
The politicians and the public are, of course, in search of a solution to mass murder. Most of the discussions center on guns, but the cultural instabilities deliberately created cannot be easily addressed. Further, it is obvious that many on the left don’t want to address them preferring instead the rise of a fully socialistic America. (Almost all the presidential nominees of the Democrat Party are pitching ever greater socialistic welfare ideas – healthcare for all, elimination of college loans, the new green deal, and freebies forever.)
The problems with socialism are well known. The Hitlers, Maos, and Stalins of the past have their modern equivalents – Maduro of Venezuela, Kim Jong Un of North Korea, and the current leaders of Iran. Unfortunately, there are far too many Americans, particularly those in the Democrat Party and news media, who ignore the implications of the socialist rantings and violence of groups like Antifa?
I expect that there will be more mass murders by disenfranchised individuals. Whether driven by open borders or violent videogames, they will break. And when they break, we will all suffer.
