I agree with Harvey Yoder’s column in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, sending either the Governor or his wife to jail serves no purpose. Taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for their incarceration.

i like the idea of taxpayers not having to pay for incarceration! do you know that keeping an inmate in one of the prisons for sex crimes (e.g. Burkeville) is about $90K or more?
the avg state prison is less at about $28-$30k.
What exactly is the cost to society, the taxpayer, if we do not keep convicted felons incarcerated? Can one even put a cost on lawlessness? Priceless?
Are you advocating lawlessness?
Funny how this didn’t come up to until a Republican was caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Do we need to change our laws to keep Republicans out of jail?
Why even have a judicial system?
it was the author of this post herself who wrote “taxpayers should not have to pay for their incarceration.” after reading that, I assumed that some entity other than the taxpayer should pay for their incarceration.
my comment was tongue-in-cheek.
I like the idea of not having to pay my speeding tickets. Forget the cost to society. Let’s talk about the cost to me. They did the crime, they can do the time
Neither of them should be sent to prison. There are hundreds of thousands of other people in prison that also should not be there. This country has the highest incarceration rate on Earth, and that must be remedied- for every one, not just the prominent and well connected.
And what about former Congressman Jefferson. ?
Ok.
How can anyone who agree’s with that waste of paper and ink call themselves anything but a Liberal? You would make one hell of a good Democrat!
Per our Constitution, the Judicial system and jury has spoken.
It’s funny how you or Yoder didn’t come out and write a “tear jerker” article when former Congressman Jefferson was convicted and sentenced??????
Oh, I see, that is different??? Yes, he was a Democrat. It serves a purpose jailing them, but not Republicans????????
Go ahead, kick me out and ban me for telling it like it is. Oh, and there’s a lot of things the taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for, but that’s not one of them. Higher education and school lunches being a couple.
You prove people right about there not being any difference between either Party!
No one here is banned. Many will agree with you.
If you don’t jail them, others will know that corruption pays off.
Who would say that about the McDonnells? Their lives have been ruined by this. Would anyone want to go through what they’ve been through?
Don’t you think that Jefferson’s case was a bit more serious? He was convicted of bribery, rackateering, and money laundering. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/11/13/AR2009111301266.html
How so? How many felonies were the McDonnells convicted if?
Neither was violent crimes. So what is the difference?
I think a good case could be made that the McDonnells case was more serious. I am not a lawyer, so don’t really know.
Seriously? Please show me one agenda item that was moved to favor Johnny. Nothing. Now, the McDonnels were pretty stupid and petty….but those aren’t felonies, now are they?
Are you saying that taxpayers should not pay for lunches of children who cannot afford to eat? Tell me that is not what you meant, please.
1) Parents with children can get welfare and food stamps. Food stamps to buy groceries with. Then, they can get their lazy ass out of bed and cook breakfast, and pack a lunch for their children just like people use to do before this country went down the toilet because of bleeding heart liberals like you seem be????
2) Why should the taxpayer pay twice? Once with the above mentioned, and then again to staff the school cafeteria for breakfast?
3) If you will look at pics from the 70’s and before, and compare them to today’s society, you will see that nobody is going hungary in this country!! We all need to go on a diet!
4) Why should I be held financially accountable for somebody else’s children? Somebody else who most likely was to lazy wear a condom?
5) Now healthcare, that is a different story.
No charity in you heart is there. Have you ever needed help from anyone? Have you ever helped anyone? Have you ever done anything for someone other than yourself?
And yes, there are pleanty of hungry people in the US. There are homeless kids going to Loudoun schools. And yes, our society had chosen to help those that need it. Lucky for them that people like you must live by the rules sry by people better thsn you
I do not have problem with properly run unemployment, food stamps, and welfare programs. There is also faith based assistance available.
School breakfast and lunches? Nope.
Since you feel so strongly about homeless kids in Loudoun, why don’t you sell your computer, and donate that money, plus the money you give your IP every month to them?
You don’t seem to have a problem spending other people’s money on these kids???? What about yours?
You have no idea what I invest in the community. Why does it surprise you that many in our community dedicate themselves to the public good. We do this for many reason but we do not need to share our financial particulars online.
I have an idea what you invest in making the world and our community a better place for us now and YOUR children in the future. My guess is that you don’t.
Here is a question for you how can you ever hope to attract new faces to the republican party when you push so many people away?
BTW, it is not me that has determined that some (a so tiny portion) of the tax money you reluctantly spend goes to help those who need it. The majority of the people decided this. Yes, taxes go to public good. We pay for roads, education, safety. If feeding kids helps them overcome their situations so that they can contribute to society (something you apparently don’t want to do), then the small amount we put into school lunches pays over bid.
So, gripe all you want but in the end you will have to suck it up and pay your fair share.
I am not a Republican.
With a screen name like Regan Backer and your outrageous posts, I guessed wrong.
Nationally, we spend about $10 billion a year on the federal lunch program. There are over 300 million people in this country. That means the lunch program costs us each around $30 a year
Why are you so angry about 30 bucks?
Well first off I’m not angry.
Second, see the link below to get the facts straight.
http://www.downsizinggovernment.org/agriculture/food-subsidies
Third, how many of those 300 million you mentioned are actually tax payers with a job?
About half?
If the Republican Party has not become a fiscal Liberal, big spending, big government party, then why are liberals now flocking to sites like Bull Elephant ?
Your original point was the lunch program. I rechecked my number and the $10 bill seems to be from 2011. I found a more recent one that says $18 billion. It still is such a low number that I wonder why you even care. We have billion dollar battleships, roads to nowhere, and don’t forget unfunded wars that cost us so much more.
What about a little perspective here.
You say you are not angry – then what are you feeling? You make wild accusations about people being lazy and having unprotected sex. Is this your way of showing how happy your are? You throw out ideas like let children go hungry because it must be their fault. Or, don’t forget the value that comes out of free lunches, like having the children able to function in schools, graduate and get jobs, and stop being a burden on you personally.
I am not sure if you are simply joking or not. I love sarcasm more than the next guy so perhaps I have you all wrong and this is just tongue-in-cheek. In that case, I salute you. If not, suck it up.
Well, the Federal Gov. spends hundreds of millions more than it takes in each year, sometimes well over a trillion a year more.
Do you believe the government should have a balanced budget, or spending should be cut at all?
If so, then were should spending be cut?
Also, nobody in this country is going hungry who does not want to go hungry. Pumping pizza, french fries, hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets into children at taxpayer expense is wrong. I suspect you do not know what is going on.
There are the food stamp and welfare programs, and faith based programs.
Huh? I never said anything about children or their lunches.
Jeanie – you did not say it. My comment was a reply to your buddy Reinhardt who believes that the only children in this country who are hungry are those who want to be hungry (see his posts below) and that the public should not pay for free and reduced lunch programs. I can only hope that the strong Republican presence here come forward to stand against insane thinking like this. There are plenty, even in our own community, who do not have enough to eat. These include children who do so much better in school because they get fed there.
