Unfortunately those supporters don’t live in Virginia and they aren’t among the grassroots. They are wealthy New Yorkers.
On March 25 Mitt Romney will host a reception for Gillespie at Essex hotel next to Central Park followed by a dinner at the home of Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman. To attend the reception each guest will contribute $1,000. To attend the reception and dinner, they will donate the maximum legal contribution of $5,200 per individual.

If I were a candidate, I’d leap at the opportunity to have our last presidential nominee raising money for me.
Yes, except for the timing. It won’t endear Gillespie to the grassroots. It might have been better to wait until after the convention. Perhaps the message is, he need not worry about the convention.

Let me get this straight: the grassroots will be upset because Gillespie CAN raise the money needed to beat Warner? speak for yourself, Jeanine! This grassroots activist is thrilled that the candidate I support can raise plenty of money!!!
Exactly Steve. No candidate is going to walk away from a chance to have a high dollar fund raiser for their campaign. In today’s world it takes money to win elections and to get your message out. Don’t think for a minute any other candidate in this race would pass on a similar kind of opportunity.

Shak has raised $19,945 in itemized contributions. Of that, $17,445 has come from out of state contributors, mostly in Louisiana
