It appears Randy Forbes is in the fight of his life in the 2nd Congressional District. In an exit poll conducted in one swing precinct in Virginia Beach, Del. Scott Taylor has a substantial lead over sitting Congressman Randy Forbes, who because of redistricting left his 4th District seat to attempt to succeed the retiring Rep. Scott Rigell in the 2nd District.
In a poll conducted by The John Fredericks Radio Show at Great Neck precinct, in an area of Virginia Beach Forbes is thought to need to carry the district, the poll revealed the following percentages of support:
Del. Scott Taylor: 56%
Rep. Randy Forbes: 43%
Pat Cardwell: 1%
The poll was taken over the course of 6.5 hours (half of the voting day), with a sample size of 56% of eligible, non-absentee voters (141 out of a total of 250, with 109 voters declining to participate).
Turnout is moderately light so far, consistent with past primary elections, which means there could still be big swings in vote totals with the evening rush. However, if these results hold in the heart of the district, Forbes will have to pull significant majorities from the Peninsula and other outlying areas to overcome Taylor’s apparent lead. This could lead to a huge upset over one of Virginia’s most senior legislators, which would be consistent with the results of other polling done over the course of the last week and provided to TBE.
John Fredericks will be providing live coverage of the results tonight beginning at 6:00pm.
