Falsely calling the recent immigration pause a “Muslim ban” is dangerous

For anyone to use partisan political tactics to perpetuate a falsehood that endangers American lives is shameful.

In 1947, Senator Arthur Vandenberg famously stated that “politics stop at the water’s edge.” What that meant was that partisan infighting should cease when it compromises American interests abroad, and indeed, when it compromises the safety and well-being of Americans at home.

Over the last couple of weeks I have heard my Democrat colleagues referring to a “Muslim ban.” Interestingly, when President Obama heightened screening of individuals from the same seven nations because of “the growing threat of foreign terrorist fighters,” there was no resistance. Now I hear my Democrat friends saying that a “Muslim ban” will serve as a recruiting tool for ISIS and make Americans less safe at home and abroad.

I AGREE.

TALK of a “Muslim ban” will have those consequences, but I would submit there is in fact NO Muslim ban. So for anyone to use partisan political tactics to perpetuate a falsehood that endangers American lives is shameful.

The facts are simple. Of the 2.3 billion Muslims on the planet, just over 10% live in the nations outlined by President Trump’s immigration pause. Further, nowhere in this particular order was there any reference to a “Muslim ban.” Each of these seven nations faced restrictions by the Obama Administration just two years ago and as such, served as the framework for President Trump’s order. Following those actions by President Obama, FBI Director James Comey went on record saying while we have strong measures in place, there is still no way to adequately vet people coming through these programs to properly ensure no one will slip between the cracks.

I spoke with a constituent recently who told me refugees have a right to flee a nation that threatens their family. To be clear, I am sympathetic to any individual who wants to come to this great nation in pursuit of a better life and I encourage that. However, there is absolutely no Constitutional or fundamental right to become an American citizen or immigrate to this nation – it is a privilege, and a great one at that.

Another constituent spoke with my staff recently and told them that individuals on the terrorist “no fly” list are more dangerous than refugees and we should get rid of those people before pausing refugee resettlement. What we are talking about with regard to the secret “no fly” list are legitimate American citizens who have not been convicted of a crime but the government classifies them as high risk.

One of our basic Constitutional rights ensures innocence until proven guilty and we cannot strip our citizens of rights or kick them out of the country for no reason. However, many of the terrorist attacks that have happened on our homeland, such as the Pulse Night Club shooting, came from individuals who were being monitored by the FBI, so the potential to revisit laws on the books to further investigate high risk individuals is something we should entertain.

But the “no fly” list itself is heavily flawed, with even U.S. Senators and children mistakenly being added to this list over the years. My point is simple, when we are having these discussions, it needs to be clearly understood that the job of the federal government is to take every possible legal measure to keep our citizens safe.

Following the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision to halt this order, it is important to look at this issue from every angle as we move forward. I have been critical of the way President Trump has rolled out a few of these orders because when done so quickly, there are many issues that get lost in translation. However, he has a duty to take any measure he deems necessary to ensure the safety of this nation.

America is a nation founded by immigrants and it is the collective experiences, cultures, and traditions from people of all walks of life that make this nation so great. We should and do welcome immigration. The recent move by the President does not take away from that, it merely puts a temporary pause on the system we have. This is needed to ensure we are taking every possible measure to prevent ISIS’ own declaration of using the refugee stream as an outlet to get more operatives inside the United States.

If politics do in fact stop at the water’s edge, then Republicans and Democrats alike should be working more closely to strengthen national security and still preserve the tremendous history of immigration in the process.

It is a lie and it is very dangerous. Democrats don’t care. Democrats are the most self-centered brats on the planet. As long as it benefits them, they will do it. They have no honor. They have no soul. We must work to utterly defeat them. The mortal enemy of the United States is the Democratic Party.

    • Warmac9999

It has become the global socialist party and it hates America as a nation.

“Donald J. Trump is calling for a complete and total shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on.”

Based on recent surveys of muslims, this is not inappropriate at all. Trump, to appease the left, simply took Obama’s list of the “worst of the worst” countries and used it. Unfortunately, very large percentages of muslims around the world see nothing wrong with violence against the West and civilization in general. Most of Western Europe is experiencing the multicultural muslim invasion. France has had martial law for two years because of muslim “refugees”. Sweden is experiencing a rape epidemic. Germany is a mess. The UK is out of the EU because of the muslim situation.

One further point: Christians in the mid-east are under genocidal assault by muslims. If anything, we should be considering Christians to be refugees and create policies that benefit them. (Yes, I know, muslims are slaughtering muslims as they have been doing for centuries.)

      • Michael Parkyn

That’s all besides the point. Candidate Trump made a Muslim ban a part of his platform. (A rose by any other name…) That’s what it is. Except for Muslims from the country that Gabe us the 911 hijackers. We welcome them…

        • Warmac9999

Go ahead and welcome your destruction. It has happened in the past and will happen in the future. I give it about a decade or less until the horrors of welcoming invaders as refugees hits home – as is happening in Western Europe.

          • Michael Parkyn

I said nothing about refugee Limits, assimilation requirements, or anything else. I simply reject the author’s argument about the danger of using the term “Muslim ban.” Its nit a falsehood — the president himself chose to use the term.

          • Rocinante

But the ban in place is not a Muslim ban. I hope it soon will be.

I also hope that the GOP quits being a sanctuary party for political refugees as well. I’m still working on phase I of that ban.

        • Rocinante

No, that is the point. And you have to start somewhere. Perhaps Saudia Arabia has the better data to vet us with.

    • Sailblazer

How about we just shut it down … period. I think that we already know what’s going on.

      • Michael Parkyn

That would require us to shut down our other activities including foreign aid, military assistance, embargoes, and offensive military operations that helped cause the refugee crises and shaped global terrorism in the first place. And let’s not forget our support to the oil industry and others.
Shut it down? I’m interested, but waiting until after our government destabilizes these places to shut out refugees? Irresponsible, unAmerican, cowardly.

      • Warmac9999

Trump is doing this systematically a bite at a time. Whether it can be done that way and succeed is the current question because the courts have usurped his power to do even a very small step. As I watch Europe, I can see our future and it isn’t a pretty one as far too many of America’s citizens are either unaware or confused by political correctness. You see the latter on these websites – and the radical left, aka Democrats and RINOs, will march us all to destruction rather than admit error.

Australia, the country that banned gun ownership a decade ago, is now experiencing some of the impact as citizens cannot defend themselves and our forced to flee rather than stand their ground. This is another example of how the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
    ———————-

“Self-segregation has become a reality” in Australia, says Senator Malcolm Roberts, with people “fleeing areas of heavy migrant settlement, especially Islamic settlement”.
“This is not only white flight, it is every kind of flight. Every type of Australian is fleeing these new ghettos” claimed the One Nation populist, citing research on diversity and societal cohesion which suggests the country’s identity and social fabric are beginning to fray.

“Culture and integration matter to Australians,” he told colleagues in the Australian parliament’s upper house, condemning the “coldness and arrogance of [the] political elites” who refused to recognize this.

“In our fraying society, self-segregation has become a reality. We the people are seeking to protect our children, our daughters, our property, our liberty,” he stated bluntly.

Sex attacks on women and girls have become increasingly common in Europe since the advent of the migrant crisis. The German authorities and media came under heavy criticism for apparently attempting to cover up an outbreak of mass sex attacks on New Year’s Eve 2015/16, while assaults in neighboring Austria rose by 133 per cent in 2016.

More recently, Sweden was shocked when a gang rape was live streamed on Facebook, and Italian populist Matteo Salavini called for the introduction of chemical castration for sex offenders after a Nigerian migrant was accused of attempting to rape a 62-year-old woman working at an asylum centre.

“If immigrants are to assimilate we should be choosing those from cultures with a track record of ready assimilation,” argued Senator Roberts, pointing out that Australians had few complaints about “Buddhists, or Sikhs, or Hindus, or Jews or Catholics or Protestants and so on”.

“How can we expect people wedded to an ideology masquerading as a religion that specifically precludes assimilation, to assimilate and integrate?” he asked. “We can’t.”

Speaking in the same debate, crossbencher Jacqui Lambie praised U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s attempt to temporarily restrict travel from seven Muslim-majority states identified as “countries of concern” by the Obama administration as “on the right track”.

Lambie further suggested that would-be visitors to Australia who do not “share our democratic beliefs and respect [our] liberties” should be denied entry. Advocates of Shariah law, the strict religious legal code practiced by Islamic State and in Saudi Arabia, were highlighted as a source of particular concern.

“Shariah law is an anti-democratic cancer that doesn’t belong in a free society,” she said. “How could someone who thinks it is okay for women to be treated like possessions of men and like second- or third-class citizens share Australian democratic beliefs?” she asked.

“Sharia law … is anti-democratic. Show me a successful democracy in the Middle East that imposes the death penalty on gay people for being gay, imposes the death penalty on women who are unfaithful to their husband and denies the right of the Jewish people to live in peace in Israel.

“If [people] support Shariah law and want it in Australia, don’t let them in,” advised Lambie. “They are obviously supporters of the terrorists, their law and their culture.”

Them peace loving muslim terrorists will hate us regardless of how nice we treat them. Unfortunately, President Trump’s list needs to be expanded, not overruled by a politicized 9th circuit court. It only took one pakistani and her radicalized husband to kill 14 Americans. One American death or injury at the hands of immigrants, whether legal or illegal, is one too many.

Western Europe embraced the “refugee” and are now paying the price. Paris is literally burning even though it is under martial law.

  • Warmac9999

And we pay Georgetown University for this type of drivel:

During his talk at Georgetown University, Jonathan A.C. Brown condemned slavery when it took place historically in America and other Western countries, but praised the practice of slavery as it happened in Muslim societies, explained that Muslim slaves lived “a pretty good life”, and claimed that it is “not immoral for one human to own another human.” Regarding the vexed matter of whether it is right or wrong to have sex with one of your slaves, Brown, who is director of the Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, said that “consent isn’t necessary for lawful sex”.

No mob of anti-sharia people has gone to Georgetown, torn up telephone poles, set fire to things or smashed up the campus, as mobs did at Berkeley.

Milo Yiannopoulos has never argued that the Western system of slavery was benevolent and worthwhile, and that slaves in America had “a pretty good life”. He has never argued against consent being an important principle in sexual relations. If he had, then the riots at Berkeley would doubtless have been far worse than they were and even more media companies and professors would have tried to argue that Yiannopoulos had “brought the violence upon himself” or even organized it himself.

I do not call the Order a ‘Muslim ban’ because it is not! …. but it is Un-Constitutional because the intention is specious BECAUSE of the Trump Campaign’s bigoted use of the terms and concepts of such. Words matter. Trump and his campaign endlessly recruited voters and supporters with terms and concepts about prohibiting Muslims from entry, from equal respect, and equal justice. Mrs Clinton stupidly, in artfully used the terms and concepts of ‘deplorables’. I held her accountable. Words matter. Trump and his campaign used the terms and concepts of a Muslim ban and must be held accountable. The Court in this instance held him accountable by understanding his words about a ‘ban’ to be an implicit intention in the Order. Words matter. If Clinton must be accountable for ‘deplorable’ Trump must be accountable for proposing various means of prohibiting Muslims.

BUT more than that …. the Order was/is STUPID!

How STUPID does the White House think we are?! WE KNOW that MOST of the 9/11 attackers were from EGYPT and SAUDI ARABIA …. oops! NOT in the Order! And we know that the Terror Tarts in San Bernadino, and other terrorists, were from PAKISTAN …. oops! Not in the Order!

    STUPID STUPID Order! Indefensible!

And of course we see why they wrote such a STUPID Order! THEY ARE ALL TOO BUSY Lying, Figuring out the New Lie, and Lying some more!

God revealed to us in our prayers – in the power of the Holy Spirit – a revelation that angels of God would be forcing Truth out of the White House, like brilliant light piercing through windows, opening doors, penetrating walls, and raising the roof! And guess what. GOD IS SO GOOD and SO GREAT! God’s revelation in our prayers – in the power of the Holy Spirit – is indeed coming to pass! Praise God!

Oh, and all you Liars, greedy and unjust Deceivers, and the like … Get ready! Angels are coming and truth is coming out whether you like it or not!

What you are saying is that Obama was stupid (I believe deliberately vile in this regard) and Trump was stupid for following the stupid obama plan. I’m with you. I would ban all mid-east and North African Muslim majority nation and throw in Afghanistan and pakistan as well. Since Turkey is the Islamic gateway for the European invasion, ban them as well.
