When Hillary Clinton made her now infamous comment about “a basket of deplorables”, the most obvious next question was what do you do with deplorables. Hillary, of course, didn’t elaborate but the implications were obvious. You had to do something to get rid of them. (Fortunately, Hillary lost, but her “deplorables” comment has become the foundation for an increasingly violent “resistance”.)
After the election of President Trump, Democrat leaders have used aggressive language to insult and berate Republicans. Maxine Waters has suggested that the “resistance” get in the face of Trump administration officials and Republicans in general. This call to arms has resulted in a constant stream of harassment in restaurants and at homes. (There is certainly no reason to assume that harassment will stop. Logically, it will increase as the mid-term elections approach.)
But this is not all that has happened, CNN commentator Chris Cuomo has taken the aggression a step further. He has suggested that ANTIFA and other leftists physically attack “bigots” who he defines as anyone having a morally inferior position. The interesting aspect of Cuomo’s position is that he leaves it up to ANTIFA to define who hold such positions. (Obviously, this includes anyone who opposes a politically correct social justice position, or anyone who thinks America is a great country and opposes the global socialist agenda.) In advocating for violence, Mr. Cuomo is ignoring the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights and numerous court decision regarding freedom of speech and assembly.
What is beyond deplorable? There is certainly precedent for handling deplorables. Both Woodrow Wilson (D) and FDR (D) interned American citizens. Should that be the fate of deplorables? Unfortunately, the language used would suggest that this is insufficient. You cannot cure deplorables. It is costly to keep them around for any period of time. The answer is to get rid of them, they are expendable.
Within the past hundred years, numerous horrors have been perpetrated to get rid of deplorables. In each and every instance of horror, the genocidal slaughter was in millions if not tens of millions. If Americans do not stop this kind of genocidal thinking from the left, harassment and physical assault will not be enough to satisfy the haters who see bigotry in any dissent from their demands.
