Virginia’s General Assembly will meet outside the Capitol Building in Richmond on April 22 to reconsider budget matters amidst the coronavirus shutdown.
The optics promise to be a stark reminder to would-be worshippers who were barred from attending church on Easter Sunday, that the State enjoys self-proclaimed privileges that ordinary citizens do not.
Tent meetings and revivals have been part of the American religious fabric since the 1800’s. Here we are 200 years later. No church services in the Commonwealth were permitted last Easter Sunday, not even under a tent in a wide-open space.
