Update below.
The 86th district seat in the House of Delegates became vacant when Jennifer Boysko won the 33rd district state senate seat to succeed Jennifer Wexton who left the seat when she was elected to Congress. (Got that? Think of it like Dominos.) A special election to fill the seat in the 86th House district will be held on February 19th. The General Assembly is scheduled to adjourn sine die on February 23rd. The 86th district is in parts of eastern Loudoun and western Fairfax where Democrats have a heavy advantage.
Today Democrats in the 86th are holding a Firehouse primary to choose their candidate to run in the special election. More on that primary and the candidates here.
Republicans have not yet announced their method of nomination or their candidates.
UPDATE: Today over 2,000 Democrats voted in a Firehouse primary in the 86th district, further proof that Democrats remain very engaged. They nominated Ibraheem Samirah, a dentist who commutes from Herndon to his own practice in DC. More Samirah here.
