Joe May Supports More Development and More Traffic in Loudoun and Fairfax

written by Jeanine Martin January 14, 2014

Joe May said,

“Today I will continue the Virginia First Jobs Tour by visiting INOVA Loudoun Hosptial and ProJet Aviation in Leesburg.

As both of my opponents focus on negative attacks and peripheral issues I continue to hear from voters who want a leader ready on day 1 to get results for the district on transportation, education and creating jobs.

As an engineer, inventor and successful businessman I have spent my career creating jobs and coming up with innovative solutions. On January 21st vote for real Northern Virginia solutions.”

Let’s look at that  statement.  Loudoun county is the richest county in the nation.  The unemployment rate in Loudoun county is 3.9% which means everyone in Loudoun who wants to work is able to find a job.  So why is Joe pushing for more jobs in the 33rd?  Because he is fully aware that more companies coming to Loudoun means more growth and development for his developer buddies who fund his campaigns and want Loudoun to continue to boom.  Never mind that more development means more traffic, more crowding in our schools, and higher taxes to pay for new services for all those people pouring into the county.  Haven’t we all learned that lesson over the last decade?  Let’s not forget that Loudoun county is the second fastest growing county in the country.  Do we really want Loudoun to continue to expand at the rate that it has grown over the last 10 years?  Apparently Joe May wants even MORE growth.  How’s that working for us and our traffic?

Joe’s going to help us with transportation in the 33rd district.  He’s spent 20 years in the House of Delegates with many of those years on the transportation committee.  Have you noticed transportation in the 33rd getting better, or worse?  How ’bout them tolls on the Greenway and the Dulles Toll Road?  Are you paying more now or less?  What exactly has Joe done about transportation?   What have been his “real Northern Virginia solutions”?  The one thing he did do was vote for the largest tax increase in the history of the Commonwealth.  That transportation tax will bring not one new road to Loudoun county or the expansion of any road in Loudoun.  It will help fund a subway that less than 2% people in Loudoun county will ever ride.  EVER.  Of course that too will help Joe’s developer pals.  Joe supported a bill that increased our sales tax by 20%!  Do we want to send him back to Richmond to further increase our taxes?  That’s Joe’s idea of helping us with transportation, tax increases and more money to the Silver Line.

Joe’s also going to do something about education, or so he says.  What has he done in the last 20 years to help education in Fairfax or Loudoun?  Have our SAT scores jumped?  Are the classrooms less crowded?  Has the massive bureaucracy been cut in either county?  Are there more services for our best and our brightest?  Or any other student?  Has the time students spend on buses been cut?  Do parents have school choice?  (Joe May has never supported school choice in any form.) What exactly has Joe May done to improve education for the children in his district?  Exactly Nothing.

Please remember Joe May’s record in Richmond when you go to vote for senate in the 33rd district one week from today.  Do you want to continue Joe’s legacy of expanding traffic, higher taxes, and more crowded schools?  Or do you want someone like John Whitbeck who has a real plan for education and will really work to solve our problems, and not vote to increase our taxes and our traffic?  Joe May had 20 years in Richmond to help solve our problems while we sat and watched our traffic get worse and taxes increase.  A vote for him, or for Jennifer Wexton, is a vote for more of the same.  Please vote for real change in Richmond and vote for John Whitbeck on January 21st.  The control of the state senate and the Commonwealth depend on it.  John Whitbeck is our last line of defense against higher taxes, higher tolls, and more traffic.
