I’ll just come out and say it: John Foust is a sexist jerk.
The latest installment? Foust says his opponent for the 10th District Congressional seat, Barbara Comstock, has never had a “real job.” [read_more]That’s right…the lawyer who mothered her kids while she attended law school at Georgetown, the former Justice Department official and senior partner in a DC law firm, former Congressional aide (in which role Democrats accused her of working too much), has never had a real job.
Would Foust ever think to say that about a male opponent? Of course not. And while he might *think* it about a female Democrat, we know he’d never say it. It’s only when his opponent is a conservative woman that this kind of unvarnished bigotry flows from Foust and his male supporters.
The irony of it all is that Foust’s messaging is clearly aimed at women, as he knows he can’t win without them. Indeed, the Ashburn Rising puff piece in which this quote first appears is entitled, “Democrat Foust Stakes Ground as Women’s Candidate Against Republican Comstock.” The apparently supportive author is also apparently oblivious to the article’s content:
On creating jobs, Foust said, “In her mind that means giving tax benefits to special interests and the super wealthy. I don’t think she’s even had a real job.”
How does Foust rationalize this patronizing, bullying sexism when he’s supposedly the “Women’s Candidate”? Simple…just deligitimize Barbara Comstock’s status as a woman. It’s an old tactic in leftist identity politics: if you need the support of one identity group, you pit your opponent as diametrically opposed to (and not among) that group. It’s what Democrats have been doing to conservative women and minorities for decades (albeit most of the time in less openly hostile ways). Here, when Foust accuses Comstock of never having had a real job, not only does he demean and denigrate tens of millions of women who HAVE HAD those kinds of “real jobs,” he does it in service to a narrative aimed at painting Comstock as something less than a “real woman.”
I’ve got news for Foust: Not only has Barbara Comstock had real jobs, like raising a family and serving her country and community, but she’s a real woman who is going to kick your backward, old fashioned, sexist ass in November.

Demacreeps are so quick to point at the Republicans and call them sexist and racist. They forget when you point one finger at someone three are pointing straight back at you.

Do you think Foust would have said the same thing about our current President – even though in that case it’s true? I doubt it.
This story isn’t going away. Today it was covered on “The Five at Five” on Fox News!
Foust said something stupid, he stepped in it, making an ass of himself. He insulted an educated decent hard working mother, lawyer, and legislator, who just happens to be running for congress. His remarks were sexiest, and an insult to every working woman in the 10th District. This guy is not that bright.
I don’t know who is dumber, him for saying it, or Mosby for making excuses for a dipshit.
Mr. Foust call your office. Nevermind they have caller ID and will ignore you.
Ditto’s with Steve Albertson: John Foust is a sexist jerk. Is Foust proud of his wife the doctor who doesn’t treat Medicaid patients?!
With Wolf retiring the Democrats made a lot of noise of putting the 10th District in play early in the year. Then they put forth a stealth (as in never in the district) candidate whose major actions to date have been stuffing his foot in his mouth. This is most certainly NOT a blue district so someone help me out here what gives with the constant Foust refrain to Obama/Clinton political talking points? I can’t see this playing big even on the Route 7 Loudoun corridor and as for Frederick and Clarke not a chance. When something appears that is this out of plumb I have to ask what is really going on? Any ideas or is he just a poor campaigner or perhaps has not looked at a district map lately.
He’s going to lose Frederick by 35 points regardless of what he does or say. So, why bother pandering to rural Republicans? It’s all about Loudoun and Fairfax.
As far as Clarke, it’s so small, it’s an afterthought. There are more voters in a couple of precincts in Fairfax than in all of Clarke.
Foust will lose Loudoun and that means he loses the election. National democrats are pouring many millions into this race all for naught.
Just like McAuliffe, and Obama, and Kaine, and every other Dem that’s carried Loudoun in the last 6 years?
Ah, no, Cuccinelli carried the 10th district. He lost Loudoun by 45 votes but won the 10th.
Unless I’m somehow reading the results page wrong Cooch lost Loudoun by 3905 votes
http://electionresults.virginia.gov/resultsCTY.aspx?eid=7&type=SWR&rid=315&osn=4&map=CTY
Even if he just breaks even in Loudoun he still loses by 8-10 points I would think.
BTW, a large part of Loudoun is rural, from Middleburg through Purcellville to Lovettsville, and every precinct is republican, every. single. one.
Yes, and if trees and cows could vote, that would mean a lot. The population is mostly in eastern Loudoun, and that’s a toss-up area.
Barbara will be fine in Loudoun, just as Cuccinelli and Romney were.
There is a very significant difference between party identification (by district precinct) and historical trends on actual voter turnout during off year elections in the 10th district that has nothing to do with trees or cows. These rural precincts have a long history of much higher actual voter turnout then the suburbs during these off year election cycles. So lower population true but higher turnout in off year cycles garnering a disproportionate impact to final vote counts. I’m not losing you with my simple country math am I? Frank Wolf built a 30 plus year career in the House’s 10th District against every Democratic opponent thrown in his path in many ways thanks to the point you so incorrectly make. Foust “pandering” for Democratic votes in these areas may well be something he regrets in a close race which I doubt this one will become.
Foust didn’t just stick his foot in his mouth; he shoved it down his throat. What a great gift this is to the Comstock campaign! They should blast Foust’s ignorant, sexist, and condescending remark all over everywhere: TV, print, internet.
I agree! Please help to get the word out! We need every voter in the 10th district to be aware of how Foust feels about working women.
Steve nails it as usual…
Nick, the check is on its way. 😉
Congratulations John Foust. You just had your Macaca moment.
Let’s see. George Allen calls a dark-skinned Democrat a monkey. John Foust says that Comstock has never had a real job.
These two things are equivalent in your eyes?
Yup. In both cases it spelled the end of their campaigns.
Macaca was a silly, made up, word, as I am sure you are aware.
Look, I understand that Republicans have been trying, for 8 years now, to even the score on George Allen’s destruction. It isn’t happening. The fact that you equate the two shows that you don’t get it, at all.
Oh yes, because if it’s not about race, then it doesn’t count, according to the liberal playbook.
Quit trying to justify the hyperbolic, mis directional intent of these ridiculous supposedly pro-woman ads from the conservative Republican think tank. Talk about running with hysteria. You even printed the whole quote, but apparently never read it or chose to not “understand” it. Foust is clearly talking about the woman never working a working class job, and it would have been just As on point if she was a he. The comment refers to her elitist concerns (Special interests, super wealthy) in lieu of any for regular middle-class working folks. Democrat nor Republican women voters with their brains turned on shouldn’t be swayed in the least, as this calls for the same indictment that is on point for the majority of conservative Republican candidates, even as they try to fool their lower earning supporters
*should be swayed…
-with my apology
Except that Allen’s gaffe became national news while his story … despite its potential for great headlines, healthy comment section, and the virality that newspapers are so desperate for … is generating nothing but crickets. Our “impartial” media at work.
The Story was on Fox News at 5:00 today. The Post will cover it in a few days since that seems to be how they cover ‘news’. They read the blogs, a call a couple of people, and then two days later the story appears in the Metro section of the Post as if it’s news.
Just as I predicted, front page of today’s Metro section in the Post,

Where is John Foust’s money coming from? He is not a practicing attorney. I checked the records. Isn’t he essentially being supported by his wife who is a doctor?
He makes $75k from being a Supervisor. Between that and his wife’s job, I’m sure they are doing fine.
Supervisor is a much better job in Fairfax than Loudoun where it only pays $40,000. I think the Chairman makes a bit more, $44,000. What does the chair make in Fairfax?
In Loudoun Supervisors are only paid $41,200 but the chair gets paid a more, $50,000.
Being a Fairfax supervisor is a full-time job. A Loudoun one isn’t.
Really? Loudoun Supervisors don’t put in 40 hours a week? Many of them would disagree with you.
It’s not supposed to be, but it basically is.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Yes, OB/GYNs make a lot of money, so much that they don’t need to bother treating women on medicaid.
Your comment screams ignorance of the medical profession. Doctors choose not to take Medicaid due to th reimbursement rate NOT because they already make enough money. Medicare will be the next one to go since our current Administration is cutting reimbursement to fund Obamacare. Would you work for free after 10 + years of school?
OB/GYNs have one of the highest cost for Malpractice insurance costing each doctor approximately a MILLION dollars a year.
Let’s not forget that, depending on specialty, most doctors have between $200,000 and $400,000 in student loans to pay back and that hey are well into their 30’s before they start working full time to start paying those loans back.
“Doctors choose not to take Medicaid due to the reimbursement rate NOT because they already make enough money.” In other words, Doctors choose not to take Medicaid patients because they have other patients that pay more than Medicaid. Stated another way, they don’t do Medicaid because they already make enough money elsewhere. You guys really aren’t in disagreement here, but don’t let that stop you from hurling an insult.
Totally correct assessment as several of my MD friends have explained to me regarding Medicaid.
Uh, didn’t I just say that? Mr. Foust’s wife doesn’t take medicaid because she isn’t paid enough and can make plenty of money with higher paying patients. I support doctors making lots of money because, as you have said, it costs a small fortune to become a doctor making fewer and fewer people choose to become doctors. I find it rather hypocritical of Foust’s wife to openly support medicaid expansion, while refusing to treat those patients because the government doesn’t pay her enough. What good does it do to expand medicaid if there are no physicians who accept it for payment?
So he lives in a $2 Million dollar home in McLean on $75,000 a year? That is “doing fine.” The fact is this accusation against Barbara is outrageous coming from a man being supported by his wife.
Insulting to all women, no matter their occupation. Would Foust say this to his own wife?
Excuse me but I’d like to see this fool give birth , raise a family plus hold a job. He’d be crying for his mommy , in fact if you ask me I bet he wouldn’t know a real woman if she walked up and slapped him in the head. What do you know now who has a war on women that sexist little creep ! Men like him really tick me off !
Where is the Like button when I need it.
Should be right at the top of the post!
