FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 27, 2015
Press Contact: Chris Farmer, Campaign Manager 703-431-9243
John Guevara Announces Run for Sully District Supervisor Conservative candidate to fill the vacancy left open by the retirement of Michael Frey FAIRFAX- John Guevara announced today that he intends to seek the Republican nomination for Sully District Supervisor. The seat is being vacated by the retiring Michael Frey, a Republican and the only one to hold this seat since it was created in 1991.
“I am running for Sully District Supervisor because I understand the needs of our community,” said Guevara. “I am always looking for ways to serve my community and I am very excited about the opportunity to earn the vote of the residents of my district.”
Guevara works as a Manager, Professional Service for a large telecommunications service provider and has served his community in a variety of ways. Guevara was on the PTO Board at Navy Elementary for two terms, and was president of his HOA for several years. Recently, he was selected as Vice President of the Board for the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries, a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to supporting local families in need with emergency food and financial assistance. He has also volunteered his time as a youth sports coach and Cub Scouts Den Leader. He is a war-time veteran of the U.S. Army.
“I have often wondered how is it possible that we live in such a prosperous district yet have a significant number of families who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Guevara. “How can we have a $2.5 billion school budget and yet have overcrowding in more than 30% of our elementary schools? Or, how can we spend billions of dollars on mass transit only to continue to sit in traffic day after day after day? We have to address these and other pressing issues but we have to do it with smarter, no-nonsense management. Throwing different people with the same ideas at these problems is political insanity. I am a first-generation Hispanic American who has earned the American Dream. Growing-up in near-poverty, I learned the importance of sacrifice and the value of working hard, which I applied to my education and to my careers in IT and the U.S. Army. We need a new face, a person who has management, business, and people skills to tackle these local issues that affect our families. I am that candidate.”
Sully District Supervisor is a position on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The district is made up of Centreville, Chantilly, Clifton and Oakton.
Guevara has lived in Sully for the last 15 years with his high school sweetheart, Marilyn. They have two sons, Peter and Nathan, who both attend Fairfax County public schools.
Newcomer to Sully, the inventor of “Election Recount by Social Media”, the less conservative Brian Schoeneman, is also running for the seat.

I am going to have a hard time taking this Guevara guy seriously. Reading over some of his old Fairfax Times articles (the one on the Patriot Act was just precious), he sounds like a bumbling fool.
I do have to wonder how a first generation Mexican-American has somehow become a staunch conservative. Is this guy the real deal? Or is he just feeling his way around? I also have to wonder if he’s actually running for office, not just running against the establishment candidates…
It’s unfortunate that his announcement is overshadowed by Ms. Martin’s obvious bias against Brian Schoeneman. The GOP consistently complains about the liberal media, however, we have no problem printing propaganda pieces for or against candidates for themselves being too moderate or too conservative. In this case, Ms. Martin states, “… the inventor of “Election Recount by Social Media”, the less conservative Brian Schoeneman, is also running for the seat.” Maybe you would have preferred NOT being voluntarily informed on the status of election certifications or recounts. No need to start a campaign season with negative attacks on candidates who have spent years working for the success of the GOP in NOVA. We are one GOP … whether you like it or not.
Awwww, that’s cute Diane! Perhaps you should have chimed in all those times that Brian criticized other “non-approved” GOP candidates he didn’t like.
Breaking news: its ok to have differences in the primaries. Time to pull up your big girl pants and realize that others can voice their opinions on blogs without seeking your approval….whether you like it or not.
I don’t think Diane believes Jeanine needs anyone’s approval, she’s just voicing her disagreement with the obviously petty and ridiculous personal grudge that Jeanine has towards Brian and, really, anyone who has pointing out the constant stream of inanity she is responsible for.
As for Brian, I’m unfamiliar with the criticisms you’re referring to. Can you point me to where Brian hasn’t supported Republican candidates?
Just as I am not privy to many court and legal proceedings, I should not have been privy to every step of the recount. Nor should it have been filmed and discussed on television. Ask a lawyer about legal proceedings such as election recounts.
What an absurd and weird argument against transparency and accountability in government.
This seems to be a generalized complaint against negativity. Even if you had never read something from Jeanine prior to this post you could tell there is bias. It isn’t hidden. If it were sneaky underhanded bias you could complain of deception. In reality all we have are openly negative comments from the author.
That sounds like little more than a primary campaign…
I wish you would quit being rational about this whole meaningless tempest, what’s the FUN in that? If you keep this up we won’t even get to the name calling part that is always my favorite part of BD contributor interactions. What a spoil sport you are getting to be.
Thank you for reminding me. I will reduce the respectability of commentary for a bit and see if I can get in some petty arguments with our allies.
i did not take her comments as negative against Brian… she just stated a simple fact “the less conservative Brain is also running” facts are facts! He seems more middle of the road to me too!!! After all she didn’t call him a democrat or a rino. .
Carey Campbell is an Independent Candidate for Fairfax County Board of Supervisors – Braddock District. Campbell is a U.S. Air Force veteran, accountant, and fiscal conservative.
https://www.facebook.com/carey.campbell.33?fref=browse_search
Carey Campbell spoke before the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, and as a fiscal conservative opposed the Supervisors bid to raise their pay. “.. As I go door to door in Braddock District I do not hear support for this proposal to raise Fairfax County Board Supervisors pay.”
Fiscally conservative Campbell called for “…cutting taxpayer subsidies to ZERO for oil, auto, asphalt, cement, and coal.”
Carey Campbell continued, “Grow eco jobs for the economy. Rail jobs. Solar jobs. Wind jobs. Geothermal jobs. Conservation jobs. Weatherization jobs. Efficiency jobs.”
Here is Antonio Olivo’s report in the Washington Post on Campbell’s successful delay of of the pay raise.

Running as an Independent in a non partisan race, Carey Campbell has been endorsed by the conservative Independent Green Party of Virginia.
https://www.facebook.com/IndyGreenPartyVirginia
In his 3 minute remarks to the Board of Supervisors Carey Campbell said the Board should be focused on positive, constructive solutions for Fairfax County.
“I have been going door to door in Braddock District. Have found no support for the Board’s proposal.
There is positive support for constructive eco job solutions that reward and benefit the entire economy
and community.
Positive solutions like my plus home in North Springfield. With solar panels and geothermal
heating and cooling the last few years the house produces more energy than it consumes.
This is a profit maker, a money maker. It’s a positive eco job solution for the economy of every household, business, and public building in Fairfax county.
You know. Positive public policy matters. That is why. I have served on the North Springfield civic association board, member of the PTA, the Braddock District Council, Braddock District Comprehensive Transportation Taskforce, past Vice President of the Fairfax Federation of Civic
Associations. Co-chair of the transportation and budget committees.
Citizen engagement – freely volunteering -benefits the economy and community.
I am a fiscally conservative advocate for common sense money making rail solutions.
80% of all new businesses open near rail stops. That’s why rail pays for itself through economic growth. It’s green eco for the economy. Every rail dollar invested creates $20 economic development.
As I go door to door in Braddock District there is support for bikeable, walkable
pedestrian, and rail friendly communities in Fairfax County, and Braddock
District. 30% of Fairfax County trips are within three miles of home.
Expanding bike share and bike lanes are win win opportunities.
According to the census bureau, and other recent reports in DC 61% of people walk, bike, or take
rail to work. 5% per cent commute on bikes. This is a positive constructive opportunity to bring Bike Share to Braddock District, expand across Fairfax County. Bring Bike Share for places
like Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale. George Mason University in Fairfax.
Every Virginia Rail stop. Bring bikeshare to Burke, Fairfax, Annandale, Springfield
and more. These are the productive, positive initiatives for Braddock District and Fairfax County.
So I encourage you to support these positive, constructive policies and optimistic
vision for Braddock District and Fairfax County. If I were on the board of supervisors as the Braddock District Supervisor, I would focus on, emphasize, and support these positive solutions. Level the playing field cut taxpayer subsidies to ZERO for auto, oil, asphalt, cement,
and coal.
If I were the Braddock District Supervisor, I would vote no on this pay raise, with
respectful apologies to families not independently wealthy.
I’m Carey Campbell, Braddock District. Thank you
for your attention.”
The Green Party, “conservative”??! Ha! Hahahaha! Good one.
I’m eager to hear a candidate similarly tout the fact that they are white as having something to do with their candidacy.
Why would any candidate do that? It’s not PC to be white. It’s frowned upon.
The only way to eventually change the race-hustling b.s., where non-whites are free and encouraged to openly trumpet and advocate for their racial identity(while the same is taboo for whites) is for brave whites to start doing it unabashedly, to aggressively and openly push back in sheer defiance. If we have enough of that, over time, eventually the taboo will wear off and we can get on with legitimate general advocacy on behalf of whites without the usual attendant politically-suicidal consequences.
I do presume that you know to what I referred in candidate Guevara’s statement posted above.
It always amuses me when politicians and people in general pontificate as if facilitating more congestion is the answer to problems of urban congestion.
Let’s face it, people are jammed into this area because of the all the jobs, and making it easier for people to get to and from work will only facilitate more and more people eagerly jamming themselves into our already highly congested living spaces and roads, etc.
It’s just another false political ploy, to pretend to be able to remedy something which will always exist and aggravate, given certain conditions. If politicians and voters were truly serious about mitigating traffic congestion, they would seek to eliminate or reduce the conditions which make this area attractive to people who swarm in and jostle/jockey for space. And we all know that is an absurd proposition.
Yes, regarding more subways, if you build them they will come and they will continue to head west for cheaper housing.
But notice how no candidates EVER engage in such meta-analysis. It’s not what people want to hear. People vote for sweet delusions and pleasant falsehoods over hard truths.
My republican friends and candidates know and state the truth.
I’ve never heard ANYONE state what I did about the exact nature of the congestion and roads/mass transit issue. All they ever say is the same kind of inane boilerplate stuff Guevara says above, about facilitating more traffic/transit load.
The more pavement the better
Haha. Not. GC is that you?

A very interesting candidate. I’m going to look forward to learning more about him and (likely) helping him get elected.
So what your saying is he actually has ties to the community and didn’t plan his run based on several lunch meetings with Mike Frey before even living in Centreville?
OUCH! no BD upvotes for you.
I believe many of the meetings included Pat Herrity.
You mean BriGuy moved specifically to be able to run? I guess he feels there’s an outcry for his most excellent governance. Big egos are hard to kill.
I’d be curious to know if he believes that just because the Supreme Court declares something Constitutional that that thing IS Constitutional.
One of the other candidates has that position.
if SCOTUS declares a law Constitutional, how could it be otherwise?
Read the Constitution and related Federalist Papers. If it is in the Constitution, it is Constitutional, if it is not in the Constitution it is NOT constitutional. The Supreme Court likes to write law, that is NOT their job. They are there to interpret what is in the Constitution, not dream up some idea and call it Constitutional i.e., Marriage. Where in the Constitution does it mention Marriage, Health Care, etc???
marriage is not mentioned. however, equal rights is mentioned.
since integration of schools is not mentioned, would that mean, under your hypothesis, that Brown v. Board is void? that is just to mention a case we know. what about the host of anti-trust suits, commerce suits–all that center on railroads, trade routes, electricity, pro football, etc: these weren’t around in 1789. so the Court can’t decide on these issues since they were never mentioned in the US Constitution?
Mostly correct, yes. If an area of concern wasn’t explicitly outlined as falling under an enumerated power, there is no federal authority. This is fundamental.
then who decides? do the un-Mirandized remain on death row? there would be no “probable cause”, no “fruit of the poisoned tree”. no matter your inclination on police & 4th a. issues, the SC has ruled on it. No, you say?
your anti-judicial review theory is very narrow. do you or your firm practice under this theory?
This guy’s a lawyer? Hoo boy.
That’s how the people who wrote the Constitution decided to have it decided. It wasn’t explicitly written into it, but Marbury v Madison, a case which involved most of the people most intimately involved in writing the Constitution, established our current practice of judicial review. So the real question is that if the people who wrote the Constitution feel it was supposed to work that way, why are they wrong?
Because man is fallible and corruptible.
If the supreme court ruled that you don’t have any right to free speech…or any right to assemble, or that gun ownership was not allowed under any conditions…would those decisions be Constitutional? And please don’t say “well that could never happen”…because of course it could.
Eric, what does your con law training tell you?
It tells me that you answering my question with a question isn’t a valid debate exchange. Care to try again?
Ok well then why do we have a Constitution and a government then? You can’t claim you support the Constitution when you don’t support the Constitution’s chosen method of reviewing items to decide they are Constitutional.
