Leaking, Hacking, and Nasty Russians

written by Dr. Robert Warren December 13, 2016

The losing presidential candidate and the current President are claiming that hacking disrupted the presidential election.  Interestingly, against the actual statements of the “Wikileaker”, they persist in blaming the nasty Russians for hacking.

What is the difference between leaking and hacking?  Leaking comes from a source inside an organization.  Hacking results from an attack from outside the organization.  All of this constitutes a form of spying, and every country does it.  (Cyber warfare spying is a worldwide phenomena and anybody who uses a computer is subject to it even with protective measures installed.)

As far as I can tell, the problem began with Hillary Clinton’s sloppiness in creating and widely using a private server for both personal business and governmental communications.  This co-mingling of usage was both wrong and illegal, and it opened up her server’s content to anybody who wished to spy on her.  Hillary Clinton was her own worst enemy and she is now trying to “pin her mistakes” on the Trump administration.

There is conflict within the US intelligence and investigative communities as to whether the now Wikileaks e-mail dumps came about as a result of a leak or a hack, and whether they had any impact on the election.  Julian Assange has said that the Russians were not the source of the hack, so he is implying that some other country was involved or that he got his information via a leak.  (My experience in the DOD arena leads me to believe that regardless of the eventual Russian involvement, the original assault was a leak by an insider who either despised Hillary or was concerned about the misuse of carefully protected national security information.)

The Obama administration and the failed Clintonites would like us to believe that the election is tainted. They have targeted the Russians who along with the Chinese and Iranians are the usual “go to” bad guys.  Of course, they would like us to forget that their arrogant behavior led to this mess and with a compliant media, they are making some headway.  I doubt that this will affect the Electoral College result or the Inauguration, but these global socialists will continue to attack both Trump and American populism with every tool at their command.
