After that disaster at the Broward County School where the brass kept local law enforcement from charging into the school to stop an active shooter, school boards have been struggling with the best ways to keep our kids safe from a lunatic intent on doing harm. For years now, conservative activists such as Sean Hannity and Larry O’Connor have been advocating the need to arm our teachers. However too many School Boards have been less than interested in trying something new.
However Lee County Va has voted to implement a plan which will arm certain select school employees to be able to defend themselves and the students in Lee County in case of an active shooter or terrorist attack or other threat to the lives of our kids.
Said Lee School Board Chairman Michael Kidwell – “The only way to fight a gun if somebody comes through these doors with a gun to shoot our students is with another gun. Board Member Rob Hines echoed Chairman Kidwell’s thoughts. “At least it gives us a chance. If we sat there and did nothing I couldn’t sleep at night. At least we’re trying to do something”.
Arming our teachers is the legally, fiscally, and strategically prudent thing to do. Lee County can not afford to hire more law enforcement officials to adequately protect each school. Lee County is going to strictly screen applicants for this job, and make sure they are adequately trained so that in case of an emergency, no innocent lives are lost. And while we all appreciate what our law enforcement does to keep us safe, when seconds are required, the police are often minutes away. Many teachers have already volunteered for the role. Said Ronald Earley, former Lee County School Principal “Sooner or later it could happen. And like some of the Board members said tonight, we need to be prepared if it does”.
Lee County is leading the way in keeping our kids safe. Well done Lee County School Board.

Maybe this is a start on more local control of education. Mandates out of Richmond are a one size fits all. We don’t have the resources or need for many of the State and Federal mandates.
Weekend trivia question, six state capitals are closer to Lee County than Richmond, name them.
Interesting,
I believe I know 4;
1) Charleston WV.
2) Lexington KY.
3) Knoxville TN.
4) Releigh NC.
What are the other two?
Frankfort Ky, Charleston WV, Raleigh NC, Nashville Tn, Columbus Oh, and uh uh uh. Columbia SC?
On a historic note;
Wasn’t Lee County named after Harry Lee?
Wasn’t he the father of Confederate General Robert E. Lee?
sarcasim here;
Can’t have that name and guns in schools. Take the guns out and rename it after Benghazi Clinton. She wouldn’t defend shit.
Hope that Phil Van Cleave and Larry Pratt will help train all who are armed.
He’s already got a lesson plan

Live by the unseeing eye…
I totally agree! A common sense approach all the way around. The cost of School Resource Officers (SRO) is huge for our local communities, and only give you one armed good guy for a massive school campus. This would put an armed good guy behind too many doors for the feckless cowards that perpetrate those mass shooting to navigate. Being the cowards that they are, I’m sure they would search out a different “gun free” zone like a theater, church, or other establishments where low IQ owners have banned concealed carry.
