A lawyer for Lt. Governor candidate, Senator Bryce Reeves, is asking a judge to allow depositions on his opponent Senator Jill Vogel and her husband Alex Vogel over emails they allegedly sent in an effort to spread a rumor that Reeves was having an extramarital affair with an aide.  There has never been any evidence of such an affair.  The emails came from Alex Vogel’s phone and the Vogel family’s IP address.  Reeves is asking for a hearing to be scheduled before May 24.  The Vogels are objecting.  Previously Reeves subpoenaed two of Jill Vogel’s campaign supporters, Waverly Woods and Ron Hedlund to depose them.Â
Jill Vogel denies having sent the emails. She believes she is “the target of a political stunt.†However she has consistently refused to turn over her husband’s cell phone and other electronic devices to be examined by a third party, independent, forensic expert.
According to Libby Lock, Bryce Reeves’ attorney, Senator Vogel “is doing everything she can†to avoid answering questions about the emails.
“She has refused Senator Reeves’ request to conduct an independent forensic analysis to determine whether her computer system was actually hacked, and now she is insisting that she should be exempt from participating in routine civil discovery. That does not sound like someone who wants to seek the truth; it sounds like someone who wants to hide behind a lawyer so the truth never comes out. What is Jill Vogel hiding?â€
Senator Reeves court request to depose Jill and Alex Vogel can be viewed here.Â
On June 13th Vogel, Reeves, and Glenn Davis will face each other in a Republican primary for Lt. Governor.

Vogel is hiding behind the law instead of making the information and phone records transparent. Looks suspicious, smells suspicious, is more then likely guilty of attacking a mans marriage. There are lower forms of political deception but Jill Vogel and her husband have achieved floater status, bigly!
Bully Roger’s rhetoric and style speak volumes. Simply flings uncertainty and doubt regardless of the evidence. His various assertions with regards to this matter are demonstrably false, including one wild provably incorrect claim that Gmail doesn’t verify email accounts with texts to mobile devices. With supporters like Roger, who needs opponents? (Google’s attested subpoena response proved the email account was in fact verified with a text to Alex Vogel’s mobile number.)
Vogel needs to own this and apologize. Take the honest, high road. The alternative is to further damage the Virginia Republican party, weighing down the ticket with talk of Clintonesque email problems and fundamental honesty problems from a campaign ethics attorney and her husband, a political operative not likely foreign to the bag of tricks that produces issues like these.
It must be a thin news day to post this.
To paraphrase Claude Rains in the film
Casablanca “I’m shocked that political
Campaigns are like this…”
June 13 ..vote for Reeves , Vogel , Davis
Don’t vote , whatever.
People like Reeves , fine, Vogel , fine , Davis , fine.
I agree with the reply by Roger…it is not about any
Idea of honor …please., please stop
Any and all of these candidates are hardly kosher.
Any and all of these candidates have mud on their shoes.
Vote, or don’t vote
Maybe find something else to focus on besides this.
Probably hoping against hope here.
Has he managed to depose Waverly Woods and Ron Hedlund yet? If he can’t even do that how does he think he can depose the Vogels?
Bryce Reeves is the one spreading the affair rumor. Everytime he pushes this to a reportor, he widens the audience for this disgusting rumor.
It’s time to call this what it is, legal grandstanding in support of Bryce Reeves failing campaign.
Bryce is doing the right thing in defending his family’s honor. He has repeatedly asked for an independent investigator to look at the devices in question and determine if they were indeed hacked. Three sources prove where the email came from and that a phone tied to Alex Vogel verified the Google account in question. Jill’s campaign tries to tell the word that she as a well connected managing parter of a prestigious law firm and her husband a powerful DC lobbyist, both used an open wifi connection at their $7.2 million “fixer upper”?
That is VERY hard to believe and I have asked Jill’s campaign on several occasions to show us a notice she and Alex sent to clients advising they were hacked or may have been compromised. As an “ethics” lawyer, you would think this is a no brainer, yet no such documentation has ever been produced. Is it becones they never warned their clients or is it they don’t want the public to know all the questionable people the Vogels have taken money from? We have all heard rumors of her firm taking cases for several key Democrats in Richmond yet she is asking to be the Republican nominee? I along with alot of other voters would like to know ALL the facts before i cast a ballot.
It is time to get to the bottom of this and in time everyone will have their day in court.
Bryce is humiliating his wife, his family, his current and former campaign staff, and his supporters by his craven pursuit of this false flag attack. He is perpetuating the rumor he claims to be fighting.
Richard, if there was a communication sent out from the law firm to their clients it would fall under attorney client privlage and would not be shared with the campaign staff let alone Richard Roberts.
Really?! I believe if you actually ask his wife, his family, his current and former campaign staff, and his supporters, you’ll be proven wrong. Try it!
I’m sure the young woman that this false and vicious rumor centers around is just thrilled.
Have you asked her?
Some people prize the truth over comfort.
Yes, please ask Mrs. Reeves. She’s a very nice lady and will tell you exactly how she feels about this.
That’s NOT how his wife and family feel. They too want their family’s honor defended and his wife is very proud of him for fighting back against this slander.
Roger, hate to think anyone could be naive enough to actually believe the story the Vogels have cooked up. I’m not stating that Jill herself sent the email, but someone connected to her, her campaign, or her family did based on the evidence presented to date.
Bryce has been an honorable man and I stand by him and his decision to defend his family from slanderous rumors believed to originate from his opponents husband’s cell phone.
You are correct. I have yet to meet anyone who didn’t believe the emails came from Vogel’s camp.
Roger – Cute try, but the Woods and Hedlund deposition comment just shows your ignorance. Do you only pursue what’s right when it worked the last time?
As for this “disgusting rumor,” yep – I agree. Totally. That’s exactly what it is, a rumor…except it was perpetuated by someone other than Bryce, and he deserves to know where it came from. And that’s why Bryce has the right to stand up for himself, and his family, because slander and losing someone’s good name illegitimately is not ok. Not in the eyes of God, or the people of Virginia.
Until this is cleared up, everyone (maybe with the exception of a few blind Vogel supporters) will wonder what Jill is hiding – and recognize that actually, who knows what will come from a failing Vogel campaign.
The email was only sent to Reeves two campaign co-chairs, Nick Frietas and Travis Witt.
Bryce has taken this affair rumor to the entire readership of the Washington Post, Richmond Times Dispatch, Daily Progress, Associated Press, Bull Elephant, Bearing Drift.
Tell me again how anyone but Bryce Reeves has slandered him?
Let’s assume, for the sake of the argument, that Jill sent the email in order to defame Bryce and ruin his campaign. Then let’s assume Bryce and his family heard about it, and knew it was false. Don’tconstituents deserve to know Jill’s character? Or is the truth not important? She’s running to be our Lieutenant Governor, for goodness sake! This is Bryce’s premise. You won’t truly know until everything it’s out in the open. (And Jill refuses to cooperate – does that not raise questions in your mind??)
If Bryce had something he would be in court. Not the Liberal Media.
This is about Bryce’s campaign for Lieutenant Governor. Not his (lack of) honor.
I notice you didn’t answer my question about Jill.
Keep trying – you’re not convincing anybody but yourself!
He IS in court! He has filed! He’s waiting for the judge and a date. Do you not read the papers or the blogs?
You couldn’t be more wrong. It’s absurd to think Reeves would be perpetuating the rumor when Jill Vogel began peddling it last summer and the emails came from her husband’s phone!
Thanks for this Jeanine. It has helped me with finding the facts. I saw the LG candidates in a forum last Saturday and I really liked how Reeves presented himself. I did not like how Vogel acted and his supporters said “they weren’t even home when the emails were sent” when I asked about the scandal. Had she addressed it head on and early, she maybe could get ahead of this. All in all, I’m voting for the guy whose Dad drove a school bus – Bryce Reeves.
Hang the bitch!
