On October 15, InsideNoVa, one of the newspapers focused on Northern Virginia, endorsed an independent candidate for Chairman of the Prince William School Board. A week later, the newspaper reveals their animus toward the otherwise obvious choice for that position by launching a smear campaign against him.
Unsurprisingly, InsideNoVa is a liberal publication and they mostly (but not always) back the most leftist candidate in any race. Such is the case in the race for PWC School Board Chairman, where the paper backed liberal Tracy Conroy. She has also been endorsed by the National Organization of Women because of her support for extreme leftist social policies.
In an effort to stymie Singstock’s impressive issue-focused campaign, the leftist candidate has been mounting a whisper smear campaign. She was finally able to talk her allies at the local paper into repeating the false allegations she has been spreading.
The article in question is so lopsided and purposefully designed to hurt Singstock that I fully expect the Conroy campaign to list it as an in-kind donation on their next campaign finance disclosure (not).
In a nutshell, the article gives a platform for Singstock’s disgruntled wife, who separated from Singstock 15 years ago, to spread more lies about him. I hate writing this, as I don’t want to lend any credence to the hatchet job, but InsideNova has sunk to a new low in sensationalist yellow journalism. Instead of engaging in real journalism, they are behaving like a salacious tabloid by simply reporting on the unsubstantiated complaints of an angry ex-spouse. That is not news, and Prince William County deserves better.
The article implies Tim has avoided child support, but facts are stubborn things. Court records show Tim has paid all child support and, according to our research, despite numerous attempts over the years,Tim’s former wife has been unable to get a single court to side with her on this question. In fact, Tim has scrupulously followed all court directions and custody agreements, and even overpaid child support for several years.
Moreover, having held a DOD security clearance, Tim has undergone and passed strenuous government background checks for defense contracting jobs. These checks include character references. Tim’s commitment to his children has never been questioned.
Tracy Conroy needs to publicly reject these baseless smear tactics, and instead focus on explaining her record and why PWC voters shouldn’t assume the worst about what she’d do in office.
Besides her support from the National Organization of Women, her top donor is the realtor behind Stone Haven, RK Realty. Stone Haven is another large development project in the western part of the county. Residents in the west overwhelmingly oppose it, and in fact elected Jeanine Lawson as a Supervisor because of her opposition to the project.
Tracy Conroy also supports raising taxes. In the Potomac Local debate, she said,
“As far as taxes go, we’ll probably raise them. We have to raise them. We’re always going to have more needs.”
Then a few seconds later she let this liberal pig out of the barn:
“Education will never have enough money. We may need to increase taxes by 20% every year.”
Tracy Conroy has significant policy issues to explain to the voters of Prince William.
Republican Tim Singstock has been running an aggressive and positive campaign for the job. Which is why InsideNoVa’s hatchet job on him last night was so disappointing.
Prince William voters should reject these smear tactics, and not be distracted from Tracy Conroy’s own words and actions about how she would approach a school board position. PWC voters should instead support a man whose family has over 70 years of experience in the county’s school system, and who has the only plan for addressing overcrowding. Tim Singstock is the only rational, viable choice to lead the Prince William County School Board.
