Live Updates on today’s State Central Committee Meeting

written by Jeanine Martin June 25, 2016

4:21 Meeting Adjourned!

4:17 John Selph wins 45 to 38.

4:05 Treasurer vote between Rich Nilsen and John Selph.

3:57 Jill Cook wins 45-37.  Only one race left, members of SCC could be finished by 5:00.

3:40 Kevin Gentry unopposed for Eastern Regional Vice Chairman. Moving on to vote for Secretary, Jill Cook or Matt Hardin. Jill Cook is nominated by Puneet Ahluwallia and Dave Foster.  Matt Hardin nominated by Steve Albertson and Ed Yensho.

3:35 Diana Banister wins 44-39.

3:24 Voting now on Eastern Regional Vice Chairwoman between Amanda Johnston and Diana Banister.

3:13 Wendell Walker beats Dick Black 45-38.  Wow. That’s a shocker.

3:04 Voting now for Western Regional Vice Chair.

2:59 Heidi Stirrup giving a great speech for Dick Black who is out of town. Morton Blackwell seconds Dick’s nomination for Western Regional Vice Chair.

2:55 Voting for Western Region Vice Chair

2:50 Nancy Dye wins, 42-40

2:42 Balloting for Western Regional Vice Chairwoman.

2:30 Speeches by candidates for Western Regional Vice Chairwoman, Nancy Dye followed by Anne Fitzgerald.

2:29 Mike Thomas wins again.  The vote, 41 for Thomas, 39 Herr, 1 for Steve Thomas, 1 abstention.  Two wasted votes. Huge disappointment.

2:20 Counting the votes for Vice Chair.  It’s going to be very close.

2:15 Eric Herr nominated by Morton Blackwell and Kevin Gentry.

2:09 Speeches have begun for those running for offices today.  Eric Herr’s son is graduating today from Air Force fighter weapons school, the same school Eric graduated from 30 years ago.  So of course he cannot be at the meeting so his speech is by video.  Herr is running for Vice Chairman against Mike Thomas, who we wrote about yesterday.

1:50 Voting on having all votes be by roll call and not secret. All of the 10th and 11th districts voted for roll call votes but it failed 49 to 31.  They’re going to vote in secret so has not to hurt anyone’s feelings.  Are they too a bunch of special snowflakes?

1:30 Throughout the day I will be posting updates from today’s State Central Meeting in Charlottesville.  They are scheduled to elect the following officers:

1. First Vice Chairman

2. Western Region Vice Chairwoman (Vacant)

3. Western Region Vice Chairman

4. Eastern Region Vice Chairwoman

5. Eastern Region Vice Chairman

6. Secretary

7. Treasurer

The meeting began at noon but no voting has taken place yet.  There will be a motion to have no secret ballots but I’ll be surprised if that passes.  But it should be that way.  I want to know how my representatives in the 10th district vote, particularly when I hear one of them is going to vote against our own Senator Black!  I want to see her stand up and own that vote.
