In an announcement that came as no surprise to anyone, LG Ralph Northam said on Tuesday he will seek the Virginia Governorship in 2017. Attorney General Mark Herring is also thought to be running for Governor in 2017. More on the story here.Â

Really wish EW could have taken this guy out. He’s an extremist, a hyperpartisan, and does absolutely nothing as LG- just as he did as State Senator.
actually, he comes across as a “moderate Democrat”. while that may not be true on 100% of his stances, he will find a few middle-of-the-road issues to get the independent vote.
I think Herring is the extremist in that race.
so can Mark O. beat either or both?
He’s a ‘moderate Democrat’ who only- and I mean, exclusively- focuses on abortion. More abortions, no restrictions at all, everyone should have one. He’s a clown and an extremist and Mark should take him to school.
he is a doctor so if he has any opinions on abortions, & if he couches them from a medical perspective, people will respect that.
my comment was off the cuff initial reaction to Dr Northam’s candidacy. He appears moderate.
How does one ‘couch abortion from a medical prospective”? Does that mean he would limit abortion to only when a woman’s life is endanger? Of course not. He supports abortion ‘on demand’ with no restrictions, not even when the baby is viable. The majority of Americans disagree with him. There is nothing ‘moderate’ about abortion on demand.
Jeanine, a medically safe abortion is critical. Let’s hope & pray that back alley abortions performed by non-medical persons are a thing of the past.
If a woman chooses not to have an abortion, that is her right. But for those women who feel it necessary, then it is vitally important that their care be at the hands of a doctor in a surgical setting.
Steve you have no clue what you’re talking about. Northam supports abortion rights, not abortions. He said on the John Fredericks show he tries his best to talk all of his patients out of having abortions. If it weren’t for social issues, he’d be a Republican. And as for doing nothing for his district, as someone who lives in it, you have no idea what you’re talking about. We have major flooding issues, he got a bill passed to create a VMRC permit for living wetlands that would solve problems at less than a 10th of the cost of normal flood gates and certainly cheaper than paying for homeowners to raise their homes. Then you have Wallops Island, then Menhaden issue, his support for CHKD, and a lot more.
Sorry Max, but either YOU don’t know what you’re talking about or you’re just in the tank for him (maybe a bit of both). When he ran for LG, what did he run on? Abortion. Not jobs or transportation or anything else. Abortion. Of all the bills he filed during his failed years as a state senator, and believe me there weren’t many, half had to do with abortion. Half. Just 6% had to do even remotely with jobs. The guy is an abortion nutcase and there is ample evidence from his failed time in public office to show that. I suggest you look it up.
I do far more than you Steven, I know that for a fact. That’s why I inculded actual examples of what he did and you just spout propaganda. I live in his Senate district, I worked for his campaign in 2011 after the Republicans nominated a compulsive liar carpetbagger who didn’t even live in the district to run against him. You say 6% of his bills, lets see your math and your list of legislation. I’ve talked with the guy about abortion, I cited you comments he made on a radio show. You are just too close minded too care. Besides, you think EW Jackson isn’t an extremist nutcase. That makes you delusional as far as I’m concerned.
No, you gave a characterization of some BS comments he made on a radio show. I cited his legislative record and his last public campaign, both of which I am (unfortunately) in a position to know WAY more about than you are. But when push came to shove, all the guy cares about is abortion. That’s it. In his public life, he’s a one note sally- and he proved it himself during his LG race. And he will prove it again in 2017, I’m just looking forward to seeing you come back on here and admit it. For that matter, I don’t see you minding his incessant focus on abortion… that tells me a lot about you too.
I’m not advocating for him by any means but actually that is my understanding of the man as well, he certainly has a strong position on abortion rights without doubt but I have not seen from him anything in his media pronouncements that push the typical hard core progressive advocacy rant you find on the typical left. He is in many ways sadly not all that distinguishable from many “Republicans” quietly sitting in the GA and Senate calling themselves “moderates” on many issues. He certainly is no Herring in temperament or stance.
