On a standing vote today in Harrisonburg the contest filed by Andy Robbins to remove former Delegate Mark Berg as Chairman of the Frederick County Republican Committee was denied.
Robbins’ asserted that the mass meeting that elected Berg was invalid on numerous grounds, including that Berg was not qualified, that the meeting venue was improperly moved, and that the meeting failed to properly elect members of the Frederick County Republican Committee.
These issues were not resolved, though. Instead, the State Central Committee determined that because the contest did not originate at the Frederick County Republican Committee as required by the Party’s rules, it was not properly before the body.
One can only guess why John Whitbeck and Jo Thoburn decided to take the appeal directly to SCC. This means Mark Berg will remain as Chairman of Frederick County Republicans and the other delegates who they tried to boot will remain as unit members.
Case closed!

Just for clarity sake, if the SCC deemed the issue as being improper to be presented to them, doesn’t that mean the other side could go back to the hearing level where their protests would be presented properly? Isn’t this kind of like the Supreme Court rejecting to hear a case because the issues hadn’t been settled at a lower level yet? When it comes to political skullduggery, when is the case truly closed?
You are correct that it could be reopened. But I doubt that it would be. If it were then the FCRC would have the right to open all the records and call all witnesses to come forward. That would include why Jill Colf thought they had a winning majority, and who was denied accreditation. Who hired Golden Seal for how much to provide security of 6 guards for 3 hours (not cheap) when the entire meeting was very orderly. Why a false report was called in by Colf and Collins, and what should be done about those who actually disrupted the meeting. That said, I think the FCRC really just wants to move on with winning this next election. We need to get Comstock reelected and to win the Presidency, not rehash the previous administration’s efforts to nullify the mass meeting. I would be very surprised if Robbins choses to reopen this. It would detract greatly from our efforts to keep our republican candidate in Congress.
No, it cannot be reopened. The window of time for filing a contest has closed.
He’s probably going to come back and try to say the unit is dysfunctional as soon as he can figure out how to contrive new circumstances to base it on. Maybe he’ll get a formal indictment for RICO against the voters for conspiring to vote their ass out. And Jill Colf will be his key informant and witness.
I think his standing to complain will have to surround new facts and circumstances.
Fantastic! When you read, comprehend and honor the rules, it’s easier to come to correct conclusions. It will be nice to do GOTV and other election preparations, now that the issue has been laid to rest.
Oh, so glad!! Congratulations at long last to Dr. Berg!
Disconserting the count was as close as it was; the issue and truth were so overwhelmingly on Dr. Berg’s side.
I wonder what former delegate, Dr. Berg did to earn the ire of the Establishment this way.
It’s obvious the 10th District Committee Chairman, Jo Thornbird, has her sights on Dr. Berg.
Perhaps the SCC should have FORMALLY REBUKED Chairman Thornbird for wasting the SCC’s time in these petty, vindictive, and meritless appeals.
More lack of transparency on the SCC’s part — in the meeting today they gave credence to one of Mr. Andy Roberts (sp?) points that there wasn’t a proper election of membership that night of the Mass Meeting because the meeting had to be moved outside.
LOL
Because The Powers That Be (the old guard being disposed!) CALLED the police because there was a disturbance!!
More LOL The police duly came and found NOTHING WRONG!!
So the ESTABLISHNENT called the police (on NO GROUNDS) and got the meeting disrupted; and then claimed there was no validity to the meeting because it was disrupted!!
ENOUGH of this nonsense, Jo Thornbird, and the other out-for-revenge Establishment Old Guard!
There were no objections or points-of-order during the meeting concerning Andy Robbins complaints in his “appeal”. If Mr. Robbins had followed the rules, he would have objected then instead of trying to break up the meeting and there would have been no reason for further action.
Great news! Congratulations Chairman Berg.
