Metro General Manager Paul J. Wiedefeld says the metro needs another $1 BILLION over the next three years to fix the aging, unsafe, system. Â That money would come from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC. Â This metro money pit never ends. Metro will never be ‘fixed’ and we will all continue to pay and pay and pay. Our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren also pay, forever. Â More here.Â

Sell the Metro to communist China.
They already own it by proxy.
More specifically, they want the funding jurisdictions to all increase their contributions by 30%+. That is a tax increase for everyone folks (or cuts from other services). This is all stuff that politicians were warned against and ignored. How will this go over in political jurisdictions where MWATA just threatened to cut the Silver Line? One Metro hand threatens a cut while the other asks for more money?!
An interesting point is that one of the main reasons they ask for this large increase for operating costs (the $1B is operational, they need another $2.5B for pensions and $20B-$25B in capital costs), is that their ticket sales are plummeting (surprise!). A 17% ridership drop just this year and a 12% decline previous. As they are building more and more stations (Silver Line) and the population has increased, fewer and fewer people are using the Metro system.
The Metro story is not going to end well.
we need to turn Metro over to the feds and DOT
Precisely! This is what you get when you let the taxpayers get in the way of the experts and professionals.
Just add some more tolls to the “freeways.”
Or ask the Donald to fix the transportation system in the DC area..
The graft and corruption never ends. Many political pockets are being lined. Meanwhile your subway system disintegrates

Sounds like it’s getting ready to be #EveryVirginiansSubway.
That’s not even funny.
Of course it is. You all are helping pay for a little used train down yonder in Norfolk. Why not go for the big leagues in NoVa? Oh wait! isn’t there a stadium or something in the plans as well? Big Leagues, yessiree.
