The Governor has announced that the current restrictions on businesses and our freedoms will continue through February. This includes a midnight curfew across the state and gatherings of only 10 people.
Currently we can only go through our local health department to get COVID vaccines. Northam has shut down all the COVID vaccine clinics run by hospitals across the state. Now he is setting up a central single statewide system that every Virginian has to go through to get their vaccine. It will be run by his Virginia Department of health. All 8,500,000 of us will have to call into one location or perhaps go to one website, to be directed to where we can get the COVID vaccine in our area. (The Governor will hire more people for the call center.) That’s nice. Why doesn’t he expand the number of places we can get the vaccine, and hire more people to dispense it? This one location for information on getting the vaccine is a terrible idea for citizens but perhaps a good way for Democrats to expand their database of citizen information across the state. Has it not occurred to them that handling millions of phone calls at one location, or even one website, may not feasible? That the system will crash repeatedly? What’s wrong with letting local health departments and hospitals do it? Will a central location know every town in Virginia and their closest location to get the vaccine?
The Virginia Department of health has also decreed that one-half of the available vaccine should go to those over 65, and the other half to “frontline essential workers, people aged 16 to 64 with high-risk medical conditions or disability, and people in correctional facilities, homeless shelters and migrants labor camps”. So prisoners, migrants, and the homeless are priority groups. Got it.
