With polls and momentum already swinging his direction, Mark Obenshain now seals the deal with an absolutely HUGE infusion of cash.
The National Journal reports that the Republican State Leadership Committee has made four large donations this month totaling $1.35 million to Mark Obenshain’s campaign for Virginia Attorney General.
But they got it wrong. Apparently no one at National Journal knows about VPAP, which reveals that Obenshain has actually received a whopping $1.8 million from the RSLC this month.
At the end of the last reporting period on September 30, both Obenshain and his Democratic opponent Mark Herring had raised $2.4 million. Now Obenshain takes a 75% lead over Herring in total dollars raised.
Mark Obenshain is well on his way to victory.
Another fatal flaw of the National Journal story is its take that “Republicans Move Cash Down-Ballot to Deny Dems the Virginia Sweep.” Though such a headline fits the desired narrative, again the facts elude NJ. The RSLC is not, and never would be, a donor to the Cuccinelli campaign, as it is an organization designed specifically to help candidates NOT at the top of the ticket. From the RSLC’s website:
The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) is the largest caucus of Republican state leaders in the country and the only national organization whose mission is to elect down-ballot, state-level Republican officeholders.
So contrary to what the doomsayers and chicken littles want to believe, there is no exodus of funds from Ken Cuccinelli, who still has a very strong ability to defeat sleazy death investor Terrence McAuliffe in two weeks time.
