Last week the House of Delegates voted overwhelmingly against Medicaid expansion because they know it will mean massive tax increases in our future. One lone republican vote for medicaid expansion, Tom Rust, one of the delegates from Northern Virginia. One democrat voted against the expansion Johnny S. Joannou of Portsmith. More here.

Interesting. This means Rust lied to my face when we discussed the impact of Medicaid on state budgets. His defense of his vote for the transportation tax was that federal mandates – Medicaid in particular – were crowding out state spending, and thus the tax was needed. Now he turns around and votes for an expansion of the very program he claimed was the problem with the budget that justified the transportation tax – WTF?
No wonder Virginia is a mess, when REPUBLICANS act like this and still don’t get tossed out in the next primary.
