Over the past half-century, the entertainment and sports industries have become very successful. Unfortunately, there is a dark side to the success – each of these industries has aggressively pushed political correctness. Whether “Hamilton” in New York City or Kaepernick in San Francisco, politically correct ideas have been foisted upon audiences who are simply interested in relaxation and enjoyment for but a few short hours.
Today, the movie industry is in decline. Far too many movies are poorly made and acted. Theater attendance costs for a family are high and growing. And there is one other major factor in the decline – actors and actresses who abuse portions of their audience because they do not share their exalted opinion. Debate is not tolerated and ridicule is freely given. Thus, the movie industry, at the forefront of political correctness for quite a few decades, does not appear to have a way of returning to a more rational and balanced position.
Probably the most significant indicator of decline is the movie theater situation. Audiences are quite picky with their dollars and attendance is down. The first indicator of failure is theater closures that go along with the financial failures of movies. Conservative actors and actresses, banned in liberal Hollywood, are starting to speak out about political correctness and the abuse they receive when competing for parts. Interestingly, the Hallmark TV channels and the various science-related channels are performing well. They actually provide entertainment without a perverted or political message.
The sports industry was largely immune from the self-inflicted destruction of the movie industry until the last year or so. Suddenly, professional athletes took it upon themselves to disrespect the national anthem and the police who protect those in the stands and on the field. These players used the football stadium as a platform to “educate and indoctrinate” rather than entertain through sport competition. Somehow, the owners and coaches of NFL teams, and even the NFL management itself, stayed silent or excused the behavior. The customer be damned, as is the case with the movie industry, seems to be the motto of these often very wealthy people.
Stadiums featuring professional football teams are no longer filling to capacity across the board. (Recently, it was reported that a ticket to a Los Angeles Rams versus San Francisco Forty Niners pro football game sold for the price of two pretzels.) President Trump took exception to the disruptive behavior of certain NFL players and suggested that customers who are offended leave the stadium. Not unexpectedly, the NFL Commissioner condemned the President for creating disruption when it is more than obvious that the disruption started with a kneeling Kaepernick.
Personally, I am pleased to see a decline of both of these professional industries. They have grown out of proportion to their importance to America and have created a very skewed and disreputable vision for its future. Today, if I want entertainment, I go to the local theater or music group or even, gasp, a church concert. If I want sports, there are some quite good local high school and college events. And the great thing is the performers appreciate my attendance (and it costs me a heck of a lot less to be with my friends and family).
Just remember this, when you purchase any product advertised on the NFL, you are also takibg a knee during the national anthem.
Well if that is true then it is true that you are taking a knee whenever you even turn on ESPN, or frequent an establishment that has the NFL on a screen, or order a cable package that includes ESPN.
That all they care about is your money. It’s true.
My new favorite sport has become College All Star Baseball. We in the Shenandoah Valley have a College All Star league here and the teams are very well followed. So instead of spending money on a bunch of athletes who don’t care whether I live or die and have let me know they think we who don’t agree with them on everything are pond scum, it’s more fun, cheaper, and a better time all around for me to watch the Strasburg Express. For $5, I get a couple hours of good entertainment, see friends, and don’t have to listen to preening from ESPN. Life is good!
Or just support your local high school teams, or little league, or do something productive like fix the [insert honey do here] that your wife has been b*tching about for the last 6 months.
Come to Lynchburg and watch LU Football.
The baseball is awsome, we love
this place. I wish that J jr. would see that this place is above the politicians though.
The students come from all over America and you can tell right away they have had great mothers and fathers.
My favorite is the Baseball and Hockey, thanks to the Coaches!!!!
It’s funny how Democrats end up championing all this weird stuff that average Americans thinks is dumb. I mean, really, could you ask for a better gift than to have Democrats turning themselves into the party of “Athlete’s not respecting the National Anthem ..”, “Transgender Bathrooms”, etc, lol. Idiots.
Now just try to get the Insane in the Membrane song out of your head. Heh.
actually, it is only Trump that seems to care. The buffoon cant do anything about improving the country so he has to resort to bullying people – sounds just like the GOP, white Christians, and TBE posters – YOU all are meant for each other. One of these days you will awaken and figure out that the rest of the country and the world has been laughing at you all this time.
You’d be wrong about Trump being the only one who cares.
I first noticed it when Tim Tebow(sp) started bringing religion into the game and I would hear the occasional comment from conservatives out in the real world about how they appreciated him. I thought it was .. whatever, but they seemed to have an opinion about it.
Later I heard them caring when the “bathroom bill” in North Carolina caused the NCAA to cancel tournaments in the state. I really hadn’t paid ANY attention to all of this up until that point, but I heard a lot about this one, people saying it wasn’t fair to use a sport’s association to push a Leftist agenda, etc. This was a BIG topic of conversation out on the street with regular people.
Now all of this has come up again. And again, I wasn’t even paying attention to the NFL, I don’t watch football, I couldn’t care less, but circumstances again made it something I’m aware of because everyday people have been complaining about it. I’ve heard numerous people voicing displeasure at tuning into a sports event on television and having to listen to people talking about politics, having it disrupt the game coverage, and that kind of thing.
Trump is just commenting on something that has been brewing up there for a while now, especially leading up to the last election. He’s doing what he’s been doing, TROLLING THE LEFT by wading knee deep into it and taking it head on.
This is what got him elected.
…. Also …
This is how he brands the Democratic party. He’s controlling the conversation, he’s the one who is making the Democratic party about the NFL and the National Anthem, casting the Democratic party as unpatriotic.
If the Pelosi’s of the world had their way this wouldn’t be what the Democratic party was arguing against, she’d be hammering Trump on something he was vulnerable on instead of defending NFL players pissing on the flag.
Trump, if he has figured out anything, has figured out how to lure Democrats into making themselves look like idiots.
Same advice I just gave. ignore SD. He is a black racist. You are wasting your time.
He is a black supremacist demanding black privilege. Racist is last years attempt at intimidation by BLM, antifa and rage looney left.
but I am always correct – this is a silly media event being pushed by Trump because he cannot handle the real issues of the day, economy, security, environment, etc.
It appears that you will be ambushed at too many sport and entertainment events. Be prepared to defend yourself and return fire.
You are wrong, flat wrong.
I know many young men that fight to defend , no put their freedoms on hold to defend ***our flag***, our freedom
today. These overpaid , spoiled POS’ss might as well be spitting in their face and that is NFL BULLSHIT!
If Commissioner Rodger Goodfall feels like he does not have to step up and call out his players for actions detrimental to the sport than the NFL will stand for;
ignore SD. He is a black racist. You are wasting your time with him.
We have a term or name on the job when you don’t get nasty but still mean;
if Trump did not stir up the issue, it would die out. Just like bad behavior with your own kids, you extinguish it by denying your kids the attention they seek. Trump, if he was an actual adult, would deny the players the attention they crave. Unfortunately, Trump craves attention more than anyone else and thus, he gives these players a stage.
You and the rest of the radical right here are upset because Trump is making this an issue. Don’t be fooled by the guy.
BTW: Mark can call me all the names he wants but he cannot deny that I am ever wrong
… but why would Trump WANT the issue to die out ? It’s an issue that is working FOR Trump, not against him. If he wasn’t talking about antifa, athletes pissing on the flag, very fake news (and it is very, very fake), etc, then he’d have to talk about a real issue that he doesn’t get an automatic WIN on.
Don’t blame Trump, it’s Democrats that pounce at every shiny object they see, all he does is dangle them and makes sure the light bounces off of them.
not sure if you are accepting and even encouraging this behavior from Trump or not??? Trump definitely does not have a plan so don’t think this is some kind of strategy.
If by 78 you are referring to Villanueva, he retracted what he did. Unfortunately, he did the right thing for the wrong reason.
But I bet he retracted do to his belief in team, which is taught in the Army.
All you have is the man to the right and the left of you in battle.
His first stance is the correct one , that of an American Heart.
His second was do to his narrow minded Coach.
I am a Titans fan , win loose or Draw.
I always since I was a little boy a fan of Teams wearing the Red, White and Blue.
2 months ago I personally thank my son’s Travel ball Coach for choosing the Red, White and Blue for their colors, he even added the US Flag on the shoulder of their Game jerseys.
You seem very confused. Kaep was politically incorrect and paid the price. Our president is a giant flaming ignorant a-hole that never sees any consequences due to his insanely stupid actions. Why are you bitching about political correctness?
Nice try at rewriting modern history. Unfortunately for you, we have the video and commentary.
I would recommend that people watch sports even more these days. You see, it is necessary to watch so we can see who sponsores and advertises on the NFL or whatever. Avoid the NFL advertisers just like we avoid Target since the bathroom BS. Haven’t been in a Target since.
Budweiser, Pepsi, Dominoes, Jaguar, just to name a few, are now radioactive in my “playbook”. You advertise on the NFL, I will buy elsewhere.
You can certainly use that approach, but eyeballs translate into money.
I, too, refuse to frequent Target, but it is much easier for me to avoid professional sports than to boycott all of these advertisers. By the way, I don’t frequent any of them but the biggest surprise is the USAA as an NFL advertiser. Would seem quite inconsistent with the anthem and flag disrespect.
Americans have a way of being combative.
To be at a home game hosting the Ravens it would be down right American to pass out small American flags and agitate the hell out of the bench.
Every working man should purchase an American flag bumper sticker, place over the FORD oval or the CHEVY bow tie in their grill and trim the excess.
USA! USA! USA!
Trump has this habit of focusing on the important. It may be with flamboyant comments or some that are poorly phrased, but there is no question that he has hit upon a truth when it comes to the pro-sports situation.
So, I will avoid the NFL Sunday, Monday, and Thursday even though there I “teams” that I like and have followed for many years. Interestingly, I feel relief rather than sadness – and that is what I used to feel before these very wealthy athletes and owners changed the game.
the NFL is important? What? Wow – you just keeping getting worse.
Americans don’t care about policy, they want political gladiators who will fight the culture war.
Trump is the right’s man, the one they’ve been waiting for.
unfortunately, his is the guy we got, but not the one most want and definitely not the one we all need
