So all of this “Corey Stewart is in danger from a primary” crap turned out to be crap.
Why does this Woodbridge District have such a low turnout compared with the others?
As Woodbridge Magisterial Chair, I can elaborate a little on that. Woodbridge is simultaneously the most Democratic and lowest turnout district in the county. In 2014, only 8967 votes were cast in Woodbridge, with 65% of them going to Mark Warner. Neabsco (where there was no Board of Supervisors race but it is included the countywide tallies) had 9493 total votes and 64% went to Mark Warner. Neabsco had about 80 more voters than Woodbridge in today’s canvass.
Coles, which had the highest profile Board of Supervisors primary, had 15,336 votes in 2014 and 54% of them went to Ed Gillespie. Occoquan had 14,500 in 2014 and it split 52-46 for Warner. It’s a function of low voter propensity and an even lower number of Republicans.
This is something that I am working on making inroads on this year with all of our current and future nominees (we have a Delegate primary to get through). Luckily our Firehouse Primary was well staffed and we’re building infrastructure, it’s just going to take time and hard work.
