Today Rand Paul formally announced he is running for President. Also today, a shadowy group run by a former McCain consultant launched a four state (and nationwide cable) $1 million ad buy to paint Paul as an extremist.[read_more]
The Foundation for a Secure and Prosperous America [FSPA], a 501(c)4 organization, run by former John McCain Consultant Rick Reed immediately announced an ad buy designed to paint Paul as unreasonable on foreign policy and working in concert with Obama. As a 501(c)4, the FSPA does not have to report its donors, as long as it is not advocating for the election or defeat of a particular candidate. The FSPA does have to make its tax filings available at its headquarters, the location of which appears to be purposefully obscured. I’ll be following up with FSPA shortly.
