In a special session of the General Assembly, Delegate Glenn Davis (R-Virginia Beach) has introduced bill HB 4007 which would ban all handguns in local government buildings across the Commonwealth. Any violation of the law would result in a felony charge.
This is completely counter to any effort to save lives, as Senator Black wrote in an article yesterday. If one person had been armed 12 lives may have been saved in the recent tragedy in Virginia Beach. “Gun Free Zones” are a target rich environment for gunmen hoping to kill as many people as possible. This proposed bill would be a step backward in any effort to save lives.
Delegate Davis has also introduced HB 4008 which would require more training before giving a citizen a concealed carry permit. (We need Constitutional Carry in Virginia).
Another Republican introducing anti-guns is Majority Leader of the state senate, Tommy Norment. On Monday he filed an anti-gun bill that he withdrew today after the objections of many in his party. In withdrawing the bill he said in the Richmond Times-Dispatch,
“As currently drafted, the legislation represents neither my views nor my intention. I do not support – nor will I support – any measure that restricts the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens.”
Which begs the question, why did he file a bill he didn’t support? Why is any Republican trying to restrict our 2nd Amendment rights?
Please let Delegate Davis know how you feel about his anti-gun bills.
Call him at 804-698-1084 and demand he withdraw BOTH 4007 and 4008 immediately.
