This is the first, and only, piece I ever intend to write concerning the American Nazis (I refuse to call them the ‘alt-right’. Â If you march down the street in a crowd that is carrying Nazi swastika flags, chanting “Blood and Soil,” you’re a friggin’ Nazi). There’s a reason I don’t talk about them which I will make clear in a minute.
Everyone knows what happened in Charlottesville, VA.  Its been days, and nobody can seem to talk about anything else. Everywhere you turn, every TV channel, every radio station, every news website, and all over social media we are talking about nothing other than the chaos in Charlottesville, with no end to it in sight.  There is a simple reason for that.  The media is trying to paint all Republicans with the Nazi brush, and too many people on our side seem unable to stop taking the bait and playing along.
When Donald Trump won a miraculous victory for the Presidency last November, a series of events got set in motion. Â The Democrats were stunned over losing the presidency but they didn’t have time to wallow in their misery. Â They had a big election coming up here in Virginia this year and they needed an issue…something that could take the focus off their disastrous policies and their complete failure at the box office recently. Â They decided to go back to the basics and play the old tried and true ‘race card’ and thus the “Charlottesville statue” crisis was born. Â What better way to shift the debate than to bait a bunch of Republicans into defending the Confederacy?
For the Democrats, the plan worked better than they thought possible.  Not only did they get a Republican candidate to champion the issue, they sparked interest from the Nazis, who had recently been given a higher profile than they deserve due to a few public figures, like David Duke, publicly endorsing Trump. This attempt to re-brand themselves as the ‘alt-right’ is an attempt to attach themselves to the Republican party (kind of like a leech on our collective hind quarters) and to try and get their ideas more into the mainstream.
Now the media is playing right along with the Nazis’ agenda of a higher profile because they are looking for a hook to label Trump as a racist and a Nazi.  The reason the Nazis got so much attention during the campaign was an attempt by the media to paint Trump as a racist in the hopes of swaying the race to Hillary.  As most of you probably know quite well by now, I am not a fan of Trump, but the idea that he is some kind of closeted Nazi is ludicrous.  The man is an upper crust, Manhattan Liberal for cryin’ out loud.  He’s no Nazi.
After the primaries discussion about the statue began to wane and the Nazis saw their platform slipping away and needed to make some noise.  That’s why they scheduled the rally.  It wasn’t put together to be a bunch of peaceful protesters opposing the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee.  It was a crowd full of Nazis itching for a fight.  They knew their presence in Charlottesville would draw media attention, and they knew it would draw the BLM/Antifa idiots, which is exactly what they wanted.  They wanted to provoke a violent conflict with the Antifa crowd and make sure it got as much air time as it could, and boy did they get what they wanted.
Now here is the key point to keep in mind. Â This is the trap that has been laid that President Trump and too many people on the right are falling into:
ALL of these groups (the Democrats, the Media, antifa, AND the Nazis) want Republicans to use this issue to attack the “thugs of the left.” Â ALL of them want our side to say, “yes, Nazis are bad, BUT the left is just as bad,” and too many on our side, including the President, are giving them EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT!
In far too many places, I see far too many Republicans giving the “Nazis are bad, BUT the alt-left is just as bad” argument. By making this morally relativistic argument, we are painting our party as sympathetic to the Nazis, whether we mean to or not, and it is damaging our party and the cause of Conservatism with it.  Using the moral relativism argument makes every single one of these groups happy. It helps the Democrats and the media because they get to continue to paint us all as racist.  It helps that antifa crowd because it puts them in the light of fighting against a foe everyone hates, and transforms a collection of pot-smoking thugs into virtuous defenders of liberty.  Finally, it helps the Nazis because it keeps the media coverage going as CNN, MSNBC, et al continue to look for Republicans to go on the air and say, “the Nazis are bad, BUT…”  This continues to give the Nazis more air time, which leads to more people talking about them, which leads to more clicks on their websites, which leads to a bigger platform for their twisted ideas, which could lead to more members…
…and THAT is why I don’t talk about Nazis. Â This collection of socially deviant miscreants isn’t worth ANYÂ amount of air time or attention. These guys worship Adolf Hitler, a megalo-maniacal, gun grabbing, socialist pagan who would have sent Jesus Christ himself to the gas chamber for being a Jew. Â Their big “show of strength” in Charlottesville had them scraping up every racist they could find all over the country (even from as far as California) and they could only produce a crowd of a few hundred people. Â Think about that. People seriously think these morons “helped” Trump win the Presidency? Â They couldn’t scrape up enough support to win a seat on the Soil and Water Conservation Board, and half the time those seats go unopposed.
But when you talk about them, you give them a voice. Â When you pay attention to them, you give them a platform. Â Like the dying embers of a fire, if you blow on them, they get stronger and hotter. Â Give them enough air and fuel, and those embers can reignite into a blazing bonfire. Â That’s what happens when we allow this story to keep going. Â The media attention we are fueling with our attempts to “share the blame” of Charlottesville is like adding fuel and oxygen to the barely glowing embers of the handful of Nazis in this country. Â The more attention they get, the more rallies they will try and hold, and the chances of more violence (and more deaths) goes up exponentially.
They only way to end the story is for our side to condemn them in no uncertain terms. Â No moral relativism. Â No hedging. Just flat out condemnation and repudiation. Just like the cover up being worse than the scandal, the hedging of condemnation and the moral relativism is keeping this issue alive and on the air. Â The longer some on our side continue the hedging, the longer this story goes. Â If our side universally condemns the Nazis without exception and without the hedging there is no more controversy, and no more story. Then we ignore them. Deprive them of oxygen, and their embers will eventually die out.
I know the frustration many of you are feeling. Â I know you feel like the Democrats and the left always get away with bad behavior. Â Yes, you are absolutely right that it takes two to tango. Â Yes, you are absolutely right that the left was throwing punches, too. Â But it doesn’t matter. Â A twisted young man was so filled with hate that he purposefully drove his car into a crowded street with the sole purpose of trying to kill as many people as he could. Â He most likely self-radicalized himself on neo-nazi websites on the internet, just like some supporters of ISIS do.
There is no moral equivalence to that.
The saddest part of this whole story to me is that the “Charlottesville Statue” crisis story was built on a lie. Â There was no way the City of Charlottesville was ever going to move that statue. Â State law is crystal clear that once a monument such as the Lee statue has been erected, “it shall be unlawful for the authorities of the locality, or any other person or persons, to disturb or interfere with any monuments or memorials so erected.”
Everyone got played, and a young woman and two law enforcement officers ended up losing their lives because of it.
Not only that, but since Charlottesville it seems a corner has been turned, and a wave of removing these Confederate statues has been sparked all over the country, proving that once you add Nazis to the mix, things just get worse.
The Bible says, “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven.” Â There will be a time to deal with the alt-left, but that is not today. Â Don’t think the Democrats are winning, though. Â Do you think the riots and destruction caused by BLM last year helped Democrat candidates? Â Think again. Â Right now, however, we need to deal with the thorn that seeks to burrow its way into our side, because we’re the only ones who can do it.
My grandfather, God rest his soul, fought in Europe in World War II. Â He fought against the ideology that these American Nazi pinheads choose to idolize, and I’ll be damned if I allow these traitors to the ideals of America to gain so much as a toehold of association with my party. Â So please, I am begging you. Â Stop the moral equivalency. Â Cut off the oxygen to the Nazis by cutting off the story that is dominating the media and send them back to the ash heap of history where they belong.
Once that is done we can focus our attention on the Democrats again.

Dear Mick:
It is you who have fallen into the trap! This is all about liberals using political correctness and violence to leverage their dwindling power. It’s about liberals silencing the opposition (anyone who disagrees with them). It’s also about First Amendment rights – even for people we loathe. Never ever ever grant liberals an inch when they attempt to manipulate through political correctness and stand forever in support of the First Amendment.
This.
Wow, that is very true! Republicans are relentlessly getting baited and falling for it. Democrats, too. We need wholly new or thoroughly re-furbished political parties1
I’ll tell you another thing you and your Liberal Republican Democrats are guilty of Mike. It took Obama 6 years to acknowledge that the Fort Hood shooting was terrorism. (9 US soldiers shot down in cold blood by a Muslim terrorist) And yet, you liberals are all over what happened Saturday as domestic terrorism. You people are sick Mike. Very sick.
I have called my Congressman’s office and Senators for years about the Fort Hood trial, and more importantly why the sentence of the shooter has never been carried out. 7 years and no justice for 9 US soldiers.
You sick-o-Liberals want to write about something? Write about that, Mike.
This is all part of the Democrats payback “gamebook” for the 8 years of hell that the Republicans dropped on Obama. I don’t need Limbaugh or For News, MSNBC, etc., pissing in my ear, telling me what to do. Both party’s are nothing but pure “s–t. The media is in bed with both causing division for a profit. Charlottesville takes the heat off Washington for their disfunction. Charlottesville conveniently took the heat off N. Korea’s nuclear bomb threat that had American’s hiding under their kitchen table or bed everytime Trump or Kim “Junk” Uno opened their mouth to spit out another lie.
The Republicans are attempting to erase any evidence that a 1/2 black man was ever president. The Democrats are retaliating by erasing any evidence of slave ownership, which was the cheap labor source that created the Uber rich 200 years ago. Russia is what the Democrats are throwing at Republicans to retaliate for Benghazi. It’s all about payback.
The media based political division in America keeps us from holding the electeds from both party’s responsible for their sorry assed dysfunctional performance at all levels. This will all be gone and forgotten when the DC garbage comes back from their unearned summer 5 week vacation. Then the media will be off to the races with another feeding frenzy with the dysfunctional Republican Congress and White House. N. Korea and Charlottesville will be long forgotten. Until Kim Junk Uno launches another.
Charlottesville was a show of no law and order in America. Police should have locked all their sorry asses up instead of standing there like a bunch of dumbasses for the media. I am not taking YOUR bait Mike. The Republicans lied for 7 years about Obamacare. Trump is a lie. Ryan is a lie. Why should I believe anything a Republican like you tells me Mike?
That would be totally stupid of me. Just who do you think I am Mike, the Republican party base?
One thing is not a lie Jim: I lost the insurance policy that I had for eleven years when the (UN)Affordable Care Act became law and both medical and education expenses have continued to increase exponentially since then for which sadly both parties and the media continue to be unaccountable.
True. A college education in Canada costs 25% of what it does in the US. They have adequate or better, affordable, sustainable, healthcare. Canada looked after it citizens and did not sell its soul (jobs) to Communist China for a couple bucks. Canada has not gone totally insane as the US has.
If only it wasn’t so cold.
Which is why Canadians come here when they can’t get health care in a timely fashion there… oh wait, that doesn’t support your narrative.
Ok, let’s play that narrative. I would be more than willing to pay for the Canadian type system. I would be willing to wait for elective medical issues. For me, the Canadian system is affordable.
You can choose a more expensive plan for you and your family, and pay more for that. Fine. But don’t expect me to pay for your desires.
But right now, we got neither. You are being brainwashed by Wall St.. You should google “medical holiday” and see how many Americans are going overseas for healthcare because it is unaffordable in the USA. Only the uber rich can come to the USA for healthcare. There isn’t even a handful coming to the USA for our half-assed, chickens–t, greed based healthcare. Sure, the uber rich can get the best in the USA. But, you and I sure as hell ain’t going to get the best. You are being very naive if you think the same doctors that you see are the same ones the uber get see.
I am paying cash for services rendered at this point and pretty much skipping insurance all together.
Same here. No way at my age, even without any pre-existing I can afford health insurance. Even if I could, the deducts would be $10,000.
I think we would all be better off if the third payer system went the way of the horse-drawn carriage. People were not dying in the streets when they had to pay for their healthcare themselves (or rely on charity freely given).
Healthcare would then be affordable again. But there’s no way that the lobbyists are going to allow that to ever happen. They are going to take all they can get.
I am truly sorry for your loss of healthcare. I do not know when our leaders will get their act together and repeal ACA. I am very disappointed in McCain, Collins, and Murkowski.
Don’t you realize that it was all planned in some backroom? Those 3 took the heat for the other Republicans who didn’t want to give up Medicaid expansion or Obamacare. This way the other Republicans who want to keep Obamacare didn’t have to come out of the closet. McCain had nothing to lose.
Don’t think for one minute that McConnell or Paul are going to give up the Medicaid expansion money in Kentucky without getting even more government money. You see, Kentucky isn’t as stupid as Virginia.
Try to keep up.
When the violent extremists on both sides are driven by hate, the only distinction that I see is the Neo-Nazis hate those who don’t look like them and Antifa hate those who don’t think like them. However, I am having trouble following how one form of hate is worse than the other. It seems like the media is trying to say how can you not see that stepping on glass with one foot is a lot worse than stepping on glass with the other foot. It also reminds me of that ridiculous editorial in the Washington Post reading that those who say All Lives Matter in response to Black Lives Matter are in fact racist.
Here’s the problem. At this point in time we have two groups starting fights and killing people. One is associated with the left, and the other (the Nazis) wants to associate itself with the right, even though they have nothing to do with us and our values. The left wants to pin us to the Nazis. The media wants to pin us to the Nazis. The Nazis want to pin us to the Nazis. If we keep doing the “what about the hate on the left” shtick we end up pinning ourselves to the Nazis, AND THEY NEVER GO AWAY!
We want the Nazis gone because A) They’re friggin’ Nazis, and B) When they are back in their caves, there is only ONE group starting fights and killing people, and they’re not associated with us, are they? Then we can talk about the hate on the left all we want, without the media having the opportunity to keep tarring us with the Hitler brush.
Wrong….. the Left is never going to stop trying to tar Republicans, whether Republicans talk about violence on the Left or not. Seriously…. have you never been called a Nazi before?? Pointing out violence on the left didn’t cause the Left to try to associate the RIght with Nazism (they have been doing that for decades), and refraining from pointing out violence on the Left is not going to stop them at all. Never has before… and they certainly will not stop now, regardless of what we say about the hate and violence on the Left.
Also, the media and Left are the same thing. It is naive to think the media can be influenced in any way by the things Republicans say or do. They are the Left.
I would agree with you if the media was fair and balanced, but even if every single conservative came out and only denounced the KKK for Charlottesville, they would still associate us with them and still call us racist.
Will screaming ‘racist’ never die? It’s absurd but Democrats seem to be unable to give a rational argument for anything so they take the easy way and just scream ‘racist’.
Democrats have proven again that they are vandals and thugs, https://patch.com/virginia/leesburg/confederate-statue-vandalized-outside-loudoun-county-courthouse and they should be tarred with that.
Except the Nazis would go away, and there would be nothing left for the media to point to. Meanwhile the BLM/Antifa thugs would continue to overreach, and continue to commit violent acts, but with no competing Nazi violence to distract from the story.
Think of this situation like the Westboro Babtist Chruch morons who would travel the country, protesting at funerals. They tried to portray themselves as Christians and did everything they could to make Christians look bad, Real Christians, however, rejected and repudiated them at every turn, without reservation or condition. Now the Westboro Baptist Church is just a footnote. No more story. No more bad press.
That’s what we want. We want the Nazis to go away, and we want to end the narrative.
Good example, Mick.
It sounds like you and a whole bunch of them spineless repubicans are the ones falling for the bait, my friend. What the lame stream media and the hypocritical fascists on the left have to say about this affair means so very little to me. The more they lie and try to spin this episode of hate makes their rhetoric even less significant, in my humble opinion.
Sadly, we could condemn and repudiate only the nazis until the cows came home, and it wouldn’t change the antics of the other side one little bit. Why would they change? Their tricks have been working all to well on so many supposed conservatives since President Trump stunned the Hildebeast last November.
And, please tell me what is moral about giving them BLM and ANTIFA thugs a pass? Seems to me they have utilized the same tactics as them Brownshirt goons applied to silence their opposition before WWII. It also appears they are getting more brazen and destructive with each stand down order that is given. Something just doesn’t feel right about allowing ANY evil to grow in our nation.
The Nazis are bad, BUT…
Jake Tapper thanks you for keeping the story alive so he can keep on tarring all Republicans as Nazi sympathizing racists.
The nazis were there legally and peaceably marching (per their permit). However odious their beliefs, THEY are not the problem and I feel no need to reflexively condemn them to appease the PC gods. The problem here (as elsewhere) was Antifa coming in an cracking heads with impunity as the police twiddled their thumbs.
Also worth noting, the nazis were the ONLY ones, according to the apparent city rule that you can’t protest without a permit, that were there legally.
Someone is being played but it isn’t us, Mick.
Amy, Nazis are ALWAYS the problem. So you think that young girl deserved to die because her group didn’t have a permit? You really think the Nazis were there just to hold a peaceful rally? Did you see the footage from Vice where the head Nazis is proudly laying out his arsenal for the reporter? Do you usually pack a flack jacket, a knife, and half a dozen firearms (talk about over compensating) to hold a ‘peaceful’ rally?
Keep parroting that line and the Nazis will keep holding their ‘peaceful’ rallies, and the media will keep tarring us with the racist brush. You are doing the left’s job for them.
Nazis spouting nonsense to the empty air is never a problem. Nowhere did I say anyone deserved to die and that is a low attempt at changing the subject. And YES, I do believe that had Antifa not been there, the nazis would have had there march and gone home with no violence at all.
Oddly enough, since NONE of those weapons were used despite the running violence, I do believe that their presence does not mean the guy that showed them meant to use them. Virginia is an open carry state and, so long as all weapons are legal and legally displayed, people were following the law in that too. Since when did you start parroting Mcauliffe’s gun control BS?
Yes. It’s impossible to fight with only one side present.
A Nazi drove a car into a crowd of protestors and killed a woman. Stop blaming that on the Left.
Well since Nazis are leftist too, the left deserves the blame no matter who is at fault for that incident.
Once again, totally correct, AmyH!
When you blame the left for the violence that took place on Saturday, you are excusing the violence of the Nazis down to the equivalent of self defense. Is your hatred of anything and everything to do with Democrats and the left so strong it causes you to extend your tribalistic instincts to defend Nazis? Because that is what your doing.
And guess what? That is exactly what the left wants you to do. The left wants you to stand there beside your new Nazi pals and say, “well, you guys started it.” That is exactly how it is being portrayed in the media whether you like it or not.
Our number one goal should be to smash down these Nazis and make them go away. Make sure they know they are not supported and not wanted. Remove them from the board and the narrative and leave only one group of thugs running around causing violence.
The more you say, “the Nazis are bad, BUT…” the less likely that is to happen.
Do you have anything to show that they were not acting in self defense? I sure don’t. Except for the car ramming into people after the march/protest/total CF, I am assuming that is exactly what happened.
Again, your knee-jerk reaction to the word “nazi” is not rational in this instance. No amount of you accepting the left’s premises about us will make them slander you less. YOUR number one goal may be to smash nazis (a sentiment you seem to share with Antifa). MINE is to defend our Constitutional rights from further erosion. Ideas are just ideas. Words are just words and Nazis have free speech rights too. In fact, if they don’t have free speech rights, none of do.
So if ISIS wanted to hold a protest/recruitment march in your neighborhood, and a bunch of military veterans showed up and started kicking the crap out of them, you would blame the mean old military veterans and stand up for the rights of ISIS to march in the streets?
I would expect military veterans to have more self-control. I would also expect that an ISIS march would be very small and ignored as this one should have been.
That’s not what I asked. Don’t try to dodge the question by changing the parameters. Take what happened in Charlottesville, replace Nazis with ISIS, and replace Antifa with veterans, and answer the question. Would you stand by ISIS they way you are standing by the Nazis?
I am standing up for free speech and the rule of law and I would no matter which group of Americans was exercising their first amendment rights.
BINGO!
Amy a Nazi drove a car into a crowd of protestors intentionally and killed a young woman. THEY were the problem.
That is a completely nonsensical response to this discussion. That death is a tragedy and if the driver was being a murderous bastard than he should go to jail for his actions.
The marchers still had a right to be there as this is still America and we all still have free speech rights. If the most odious speech possible is not protected, no speech is protected. People legally and peaceably assembling is not the problem. The problem was and is communist funded thugs deciding there is a “hate speech” exception to the first amendment and enforcing their opinions with clubs and fire-throwers as the police stand by twiddling their thumbs.
The accused guy if convicted is going to be far worse off than the dead girl. You apparently do not have any clue as to what happens to a 20 year old man in the penal system?
Both went to Charlottesville looking for a fight. That is exactly what they got. Both are now paying for their very bad decision. Americans are so stupid.
Take your liberal Democrat s–t down to road Mike.
Why shouldn’t the ones who got away with burning Baltimore and Ferguson take their show on the road to Charlottesville? The police are scared of them and ain’t going to do nothing.
I am not so sure they are scared of them… I think it is more the police officers’ bosses (in this case the mayor) are philosophical kindred spirits with Antifa and they were scared of being fired if they didn’t follow orders to stand down.
The mayor of Charlottesville does not control the state police.
Too true… McAuliffe is in control of them.
1000^^ for AmyH! Spot on truth!!
You actually care what the Jake Tappers of the lame stream media have to say? That is pathetic!
http://www.breitbart.com/big-journalism/2017/08/16/ann-coulter-liberals-club-people-love-hearts/
No. I care about the narrative of Republicans standing side by side with Nazis being blasted to the mushy middle every day, complete with pictures and sound bites of the President and other Republicans giving the story the stink of legitimacy. This will cost us elections in November and in 2018.
I care about Black, and Asian, and Hispanic Republicans turning away from the party because some of us are too helping the media and the Democrats perpetuate the fiction the Republican = racist.
I care about Black Republican hosts on FoxNews getting death threats because she can’t believe the President cannot do something as simple as condemn Nazis without reservation or conditions.
Let me bring this down to a level you can understand.
THIS…IS…A…TRAP…AND…YOU…ARE…FALLING…INTO…IT
Stop doing the Democrats’ dirty work for them.
Yet, anyone with a wee bit of common sense knows that the “GOP is the party of white supremacy,” is a false meme. What will cost us elections are the spineless legislators that have not followed through on their promises and that wilt like delicate flowers in the face of these kind of attacks. I never thought there would come a day in America where the truth could be so castigated.
Either you know the underlining reason why these kind of attacks are occurring and are ignoring it, or you are completely lacking in any common sense, my crazy, befuddled friend. I truly don’t know which example is worse, but allowing this crap to continue will definitely put the leftist fascists back in charge.
I wonder what our economy would look like if all those turncoat repubicans in congress would help President Trump instead of impede him at every turn. Surely, you would agree that the economy is starting to jump with a million plus jobs created since January, a 2.6% GDP last quarter and a projected 3.7% in the next? The fact that our Big Government has collected RECORD individual and payroll tax revenues so far this year ought to be your sign!
I don’t think the Left talking about Nazi’s is what Republicans need to worry about – what Republicans need to be concerned with is if the Left STOPS talking about this stuff and STARTS talking about jobs, the economy, etc. That is the worry if you’re a Republican, that Democrats might start talking about issues that regular people care about.
Really? You enjoy being associated with these people? That’s the whole point of this exercise in the media right now. Do you want our Republican candidates facing voters that are constantly being told that we are part and parcel of a movement to create the Fourth Reich? Tell a lie long enough and people start to believe it’s true. Tell this lie long enough, with a bunch of people on our side unable to unconditionally condemn the Nazis without looking to share the blame, and it gives the lie that much more credibility.
You obviously haven’t read my posts on other threads.
