Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has threatened to sue Trump if he attempts to ban muslims from entering the country. From Talkingpointsmemo.com
“I would sue any president that exceeds his or her powers,” Ryan said in a back-and-forth about Trump’s claims that he could implement a Muslim ban or build a Mexican border wall without congressional approval.
WHAT?? Wait, you didn’t sue Obama when took $8 BILLION in unappropriated funds and gave it to Obamacare. You didn’t sue him when he issued executive orders to not return illegal immigrants to their countries. But you would sue if Trump built a wall to keep ILLEGAL immigrants out of the country? Illegal immigrants who suppress wages for our most vulnerable citizens, those on the bottom of the economic ladder? You didn’t sue him when he made changes to Obamacare without Congressional approval. If there was a EVER a President who should have been sued for overstepping his executive powers, it was Obama! And Congress never said or did anything to stop him. And now you threaten our presumptive nominee? Are you kidding?
Ryan said he wasn’t sure if Trump could legally ban muslims. (Obama has admitted over a million muslims to our country and no one has had a problem with that.) More from TalkingPointsMemo,
“That’s a legal question that there’s a good debate about,” he said, citing the 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act.
“On the broader question, are we going to exert our Article I powers and reclaim this Article I power no matter who the president is? Absolutely,” Ryan said. He also said he discussed the limits of the executive power with Trump.
In the interview, Ryan said his endorsement of real estate mogul did not give Trump “a blank check,” and that he was still trying to achieve “real unity” between the presumptive nominee and his caucus.
“I am going to keep being who I am, I am going to keep speaking out on things where I think it’s needed, where our principles need to be defended, and I am going to keep doing that, I hope it’s not necessary,” Ryan said. “But the last thing I want to see is a another Democrat in the White House”
Ryan discussed limits of executive power with Trump? How ’bout this Congress limiting the executive powers of Obama who has stepped all over the Congress while Ryan (and before him, Boehner) has stood by and done nothing.
I do not believe Ryan when he says the last thing he wants is another Democrat in the White House. He knows that’s exactly what he’s trying to do with pronouncements like this. Ryan’s been a HUGE disappointment. He needs to go. We need a real conservative running the House, not someone who will let Democrats run all over him, but is vowing to rein in a Republican President after giving Obama free rein for 8 years!
Ryan tells Republicans to “vote their conscience”, more on that story here and here. How much more will he do to help elect Hillary?

In the end, Ryan said he’s sue Trump if he had to, which is precisely what the republicans did to Obama.
Paul Ryan is a particularly pungent little turdlette. He needs to be flushed out of the system in the next primary. The thought that I once supported him for VP still has a sickening effect on me.
The word “betrayal” makes frequent appearances on this blog. Given that compromise between parties is a prerequisite for legislation, when is compromise acceptable? Where in the sand do we find a line marked “Betrayal — Do Not Cross?”
Just another Republican betrayal. I remember when I loved Paul Ryan, as he stood up to Obama in ’09 and called him out on his Obamacare budget nonsense, which exposed Obama as a reckless spender. Obama just sat there in that meeting and seethed, but he knew Ryan was an opponent to be feared, because Ryan would speak the truth and fight. Now seven years later, it seems Ryan has been completely corrupted. He gives Obama whatever he wants and more. He doesn’t even pretend to fight for a budget. One of the most stark Republican betrayals ever. Is it any wonder that people are mad as hell and don’t trust Republicans? And now Ryan adds to the betrayal, threatening to sue the Republican nominee for President in the middle of the campaign season. Ryan has finally found a place where he can take a firm stand by supporting the Democrats in blocking Trump’s agenda! All this does is affirm the electorate’s suspicion that Republicans can’t be trusted any more than Democrats, which makes Trump look like the last remaining hope to stop the nonsense in DC.
Precisely…
I’m not a Never Trump person, but if he can’t control his own convention he doesn’t deserve to win the nomination. This has literally been an afterthought for two generations.
Ryan is Tom Donohue’s toady. He’s there to do whatever the US Chamber tells him to do. The Chamber is run by multinational post-patriotic globalists who think nation states are quaint relics of the past. It’s the Chamber which has filled Ryan’s campaign coffers with more than eight million dollars – not the people of Wisconsin’s first district. Ryan is nothing more than a smooth talking shill for his beltway bosses. He just completed facilitating their Puerto Rico bailout to line the pockets of their Wall Street banking buddies. He has given Obama everything he wants because that’s the deal. Obama gets to fundamentally transform America; Ryan’s cronies get to keep their power, perks, privileges and profits. Cozy.
Sir, you are 100 percent spot on correct! John
I’m going to Ryan’s district for two days to report live on his primary challenge from Paul Nehlam. Who’s with me?
When is Ryan’s primary? Is there any chance he could lose?
August 9th. Ryan has 80% plus approval ratings and Trump overwhelmingly lost the district in the Presidential Primary, so the odds of Ryan losing are about as high as the odds of Renee Ellmers get re-elected.
Ok, thanks. Too bad!
You’re welcome, but I don’t think it’s all that bad. Ryan’s primary opponent seems to be a protest candidate, not someone that would actually do the job. Think of the opposite of Dave Brat and you’ve got this guy.
So how soon will people stop voting Republican? Will it be this year? Or will it be the next election cycle?
Thank you Mrs. Martin!
Ryan needs to be Cantor’d. Support Paul Nehlan.
The friend of my enemy is my enemy, Ryan!
Actually, it is worse than that. Ryan has been under the thumb of Obama so long, he thinks it is normal for Congress to sue the President. When Congress sues the Executive, it further cedes the legislative prerogatives to the court.
almost as bad as congress declaring it will block and impede all progress until the black, foreign guy leaves of gets kick out
The GOP is reaping what it sowed 8 years ago
This is so immature of Paul Ryan, he could have simply said (what he would never say about Obama) that if the Executive branch exceeded its authority under the Constitution that they would check that power.
That is exactly what the GOP has been doing to Obama since the start. To imply that congress never challenge Obama with law suits is simply false.
