From the Richmond Times-Dispatch, on the theft of Senator Petersen’s car:Â
Petersen’s own car — a hybrid Ford Fusion with the license plate “20†above the word “Senator†— was stolen near his Richmond home in the 2600 block of Park Avenue in the Fan District the night of Feb. 11.
The car was recovered Feb. 15, said Richmond police spokesman Gene Lepley.
My first question, when did Chap Petersen move to Richmond? Â Doesn’t he represent a district in Fairfax?
Second question, who is dumb enough to steal a car with ‘Senator’ on the license plate and a two digit number?

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “home” as ” of home: the place (such as a house or apartment) where a person lives.
Not sure what bone you’re trying to pick here, Jeanine. Are you trying to say legislators can’t buy or rent a residence to live in during session, when they’re in Richmond 24/7? Is today that slow of a news day?
They’re only in session two months a year. Who buys a house for two months a year? The other GA members certainly don’t. None of the Senators or Delegates from Loudoun do that and some of them are almost as rich as Chap Petersen.
I guess the biggest point here is your poor journalism. Where does it say he bought a house? It doesn’t. You’re assuming. If you were to do the most basic research possible by looking at a map and/or Richmond GIS, you’d see that block of Park is a huge apartment complex (to note, owned by a Loupassi) on one side and duplexes on the other (none of which are titled to a Chap Petersen). So, from what I can see, he doesn’t own a house on the 2600 block of Park. That said, it’s more likely that he’s renting an apartment during session…as literally ALL legislators (including those from Loudoun) do. Next time do a little research before writing a shoddy hit-piece.
Aside from that main point…why exactly couldn’t he buy a house to use two months of the year? People can have more than one residence and I know plenty of people that have second or vacation homes. Chap’s a well-off attorney and could surely afford a second residence and, to me, it would make perfect sense for that residence to be in the same place he definitively spends a sixth of the year in. As for “other GA members”, do you know for certain the other 139 legislators have never purchased a home in Richmond? Have you called their offices to inquire?
“his Richmond home” doesn’t sound like “the apartment/hotel room he rents when the legislature is in session”. I know the GA members from Loudoun don’t own homes in Richmond but Petersen is much richer and could afford to buy a house he will only occupy two months per year.
Then take THAT up with the RTD. I’m not sure they inquire as to home ownership when interviewing. Also, people can rent homes. Common sense, though.
As for if he or other GA members own homes in Richmond, can you show me the data you have to back up that statement. Have you polled the Loudoun delegation? Or am I supposed to go on your “research”?
Not sure what bone you’re trying to pick. If you have problems with the article I quoted, take it up with the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
I don’t have a problem with the excerpt, just your commentary. The bone I’m trying to pick is you insinuating that he moved to Richmond and lives here full time without a single iota of evidence to back that statement up.
Please go home. You’re back on thin ice here already.
Thin ice? You’re “reporting” stuff that isn’t in the least true and that you can’t back up your claims to. Have some integrity, for God’s sake.
I’m surprised to learn my Senator is living in Richmond.
Me too. I thought that was one of the more interesting parts of the story.
HOW can you pretend to represent a community when you chose not to live in it. That is absolutely my hit button issue, people who think so well of themselves that their legislative contributions out weigh living with the the people you’re supposed to represent….enter LuAnn Bennett who doesn’t live in the 10th District!
Legislators rent apartments in Richmond during session. This isn’t news to anyone. Nowhere does it say he doesn’t live in the district the other 10 months of the year or that he doesn’t head home on the weekends. Jeanine’s making a leap by assuming he owns a house in Richmond when all the evidence points to the opposite.
You liked your own comment? How sweet.
I liked it too because it was on target.
Yeah. And? So did two other people. And I don’t believe for a second you and Steve aren’t the only two liking each other’s comments on here. You have no ample reply to my criticisms, so you’re trying change the subject. Bless your heart.
And he’ll do it again for 45 days next year! Oh the horrors!
Dave, clearly many of them — as in this case — are not too bright. But, a lot of them still are not caught.
There is a reason criminals get caught. It is because they are stupid.
