On Friday afternoon the Virginia State Board of Elections met with an agenda that included only one bit of business, to determine if Delegate Nick Frietas would be on the ballot in November as the Republican candidate in the 30th district of the House of Delegates. The papers they were to work from are here.
The meeting lasted only 20 minutes and they did not address the candidacy of Nick Frietas presumably because Freitas had withdrawn from the race on Thursday. There was no longer anything for the BOE to rule on. The only Republican on the BOE, former Delegate John O’Bannon, said “That’s not before us right now”, referring to whether or not they would allow Freitas to be on the ballot in November.
As it stands now there is no Republican candidate in the 30th HOD district only a Democrat, Ann Ridgeway.
More on the story here.
