Governor McAuliffe has declared Charlottesville to be in a state of emergency with the National Guard on standby after white nationalist protesters and those opposing them have erupted in violence. Before the protest even began a gray dodge charger plowed into the crowd as they marched down Charlottesville mall toward the Emancipation Park. The car plowed into two other vehicles and injured at least 4 people. The vehicle then escaped, driving backward at high speed. The driver was later apprehended.
The Washington Post is reporting 10 injured with one fatality.
The “Unite the Right” protest was due to begin at noon in front of the Robert E. Lee statue that the city has threatened to remove from Emancipation Park. The violence began before noon with pushing and shoving between the two groups and then car plowing into the crowd. Law enforcement has shut down the protest and cleared the park.
The protest began on Friday night when white supremacists marched across the campus of the University of Virginia to the newly refurbished Rotunda with torches shouting “White lives matter” and “You will not replace us”.

During the campaign, Trump put more effort into insulting Charles Krauthammer than he put into distancing himself from hate groups. His supporters wanted so badly to beat Hillary Clinton that they (you) would have voted for anybody, and do anything for that one more vote. Stir the pot. Fear the Other. Promote the fear. You took on the very rhetoric of hate groups to get him elected
The trouble in Charlottesville is the result. At least be honest enough to own your part in this, and help the GOP understand they massively screwed this up.
And let’s also be honest enough to note that the anti-Trump antifas are an ever present danger to the Bill of Rights. The neo-NAZIs have marched in my neck of the Virginia woods and violence never happened only condemnation. What is different now is that violence rather than condemnation is coming from the totalitarian leftists.
Per the Bill of Rights, everyone has the right to peaceably assemble. This has somehow morphed into the right to assemble and do whatever you want. Thus you get not only Charlottesville, but Berkeley, Ferguson, Baltimore, – and Kent State a couple of decades ago. Trump was right in condemning all those who intended and committed violence, and that includes not only the white supremacists, but the antifas and any of the other grievance supremacist groups.
One final point, there is a deliberate attempt to distort the meaning of protests. The biased media and leaders of the left use the term”nationalists” (which are really not nationalists but supremacists). This is a deliberate attempt to not so subtly condemn those who supported Trump Frankly, the civil war that is underway is between fascists of the globalist left and socialists of the anti-globalist right. The patriots (or America first folk) stand in support of the Constitution regardless of whether they have conservative or liberal leanings.
First they came for the white nationalists and white supremacists. But since I was not a racist or white supremacist, I said nothing. Then they came for those who waved the Confederate flag. But since I did not wave the Confederate flag I said nothing. Then they mocked and disparaged the “Dead White Males” who built Western Civilization. They tore their accomplishments out of our history books. But since I was a living white male I said nothing. Then they came for the gun owners. But since I was not a gun owner, I said nothing. Then they came for the talk show hosts. But since I did not listen to talk radio, I said nothing. Then they came for the conservatives. But since I was a centrist and not a conservative, I said nothing. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak for me.
This is the danger. There is a totalitarian view that says there is only one right way – and that is global fascism, socialism, communism or even islamism at the expense of American freedoms. The totalitarians will allow no dissent – we see that on the college campuses and certain elements of the media. Unfortunately, we even see it in government with the constant leaks directed against Trump.
Oh, by the way, they have already come for you and you best not speak out. Just ask Milo or Ann (or that fellow from Google) how they have faired when they try to speak out in dissent. It is one thing to write on the Bull Elephant, but you dare not go public in a major forum or you will be punished.
wait = you support the views of the google guy?
Really?
Which part of the google memo do not you agree with ? I don’t mean generalities like “I’m not a misogynist like he is …” I mean specifics, like, from the actual memo and not from the MSNBC coverage of what they wish the guy had said.
P.S. … from the ACTUAL memo, the one with the citations, not the edited version …
I know. You are right. Which is why I support Ben Shapiro and all the others who go onto college campuses. This was a tough battle, because the Alt-Right or whatever you want to call it had to appear in Charlottesville, a liberal bastion, because that is where the Robert E Lee statue controversy started.
nobody cam for the white nationalists and white supremacist – they brought their hate to the rally in hopes of a confrontation. Nobody has ever taken their guns, stiffed their right to speak, enslaved them, put them in gas chambers, etc.
And Trump refuses to denounce the white supremacists?
Keep up, SD
SD = stupid dunce??
He consistently tries to Subvert and Distort arguments. Thus SD.
Except that the fact is Trump did not condemn the klan. You can capitalize all the words you want but I am right AGAIN
You really should read more SD.

please read JM and Lily – Trump condemned the violence but not the White Supremacists!!! He said he wants the fighting to stop but did not take sides. He condemned Bigotry but did not say which side he thought was bigots.
Did you listen to his speech? I did. It was all “just stop it and now back to me”
But I am not surprised by your responses as I know you support the bad guys also
You are an idiot and on thin ice here. One more lie thrown at me, you’re gone.
what lie? read the first link you posted – the headline is “Trump Takes Heat for Blaming Violence at Charlottesville Rally on ‘Many Sides”
Trump did not condenm the white supremacists. He blamed everyone for the violence but did not say the neo-nazzis are bad.
I think you intentionally misrepresented what your own source says – why is that? What could your purpose be?
“He blamed everyone for the violence …”
I’m not sure what your point is.
Much as I dislike white nationalists, they do have the right to speak, same as everyone else. It wasn’t that long ago that the ACLU defended the KKK’s right to assemble. These morons had a permit to have their rally.
Or are you suggesting that the moron nationalists were the only ones committing acts of violence ? That’s not what it looks like in the videos I’ve seen. Takes two to tango.
Or are you suggesting that “everyone” isn’t responsible for the violence in general ? If so, I give you the number 59. That’s the number of days since a Bernie Sanders supporter attacked representatives on a baseball field.
Bigotry was one every side. Until you face that fact, you are as bad as any supremacist of any color.
so, you support the Nazi folks – not just their right to protest but what they stand for, correct?
Trump condemned the protest.
He also spoke against flying the stars and bars during the primary.
What will Northram say ? Whatever it will be polished.
What will Gillespie say?
He has to tread lightly on his comments. He can’t take the historic/heritage road now because he did not prior to.
no – he condemned the violence – as if he wants us all to get along and talk – he did not condemn the nazis
The only way we all get along is if we obey the law. Once the decision is made to ignore the law, anarchy results.
the point is not the protests – the point is that the WH and Trump have legitimized the white supremacist movement, even encouraged its growth. But you know that because you feel legitimized by them also
That is what you want, but that is not the truth. The silence on the left along with the distraction to ignore their involvement is quite telling.
Well spoken by a klansman
Much the same way Obama legitimized BLM? Pity that.
The racist Northam has no credibility!

Normally I am on the side of the police but they and the city council caused all this trouble today. They were supposed to maintain distance from the permit holders at Emancipation Park from the anti protesters. Antifa was hurling urine, feces, spraying mace and tear gas at the protesters. Nothing was done to them. The car that plowed into the crowd had Ohio plates. I have spoken to black and white people here in Charlottesville. NOT ONE of them care about the Lee Statue. It is all outsiders who are causing all this trouble.
The national guard should have been deployed as soon as it became obvious that violence between hundreds if not thousands of people would occur. Police forces can maintain order. Military force is needed to restore order.
Europe is beginning to learn that their police forces are quite inadequate in the face of massive invasion or assault. Spanish police had but a few armed police to prevent hundreds of “refugees” from breaking down fences and disappearing into the Spanish nation. You cannot blame the police when they are overwhelmed and given orders to stand down from use of significant force on their own.
