In the 2026 Virginia General Assembly, there was only one piece of legislation specifically introduced regarding Islamophobia: Senate Bill 624, sponsored by State Senator Saddam Azlan Salim.Senate Bill 624 OverviewCore Purpose: The bill proposed amending Virginia’s assault and battery statute to legally define Islamophobia. It directed law enforcement and state agencies to use this classification for tracking bias-motivated offenses, rather than creating a new criminal offense or penalizing speech.Definition: It defined the term as “malicious prejudice or hatred directed toward Islam or Muslims,” and stipulated that it applies even if the victim is not actually Muslim but was targeted based on perceived adherence to the faith.Current Status: On February 2, 2026, the Senate Courts of Justice Committee voted to continue the bill to the next legislative session, meaning it will not move forward until the 2027 General Assembly.

We are in desperate need of Christianphobic Legislation. Or are Virginia Christian Republicans and Democrats cowards?

Virginia has passed several pieces of hate legislation, including measures that impose heightened penalties for crimes motivated by certain biases and laws that protect the anonymity and safety of victims.Key legislation passed in Virginia includes:Ethnic Origin Protections (2024): Legislation was signed into law that added “ethnic origin” to the categories of protected characteristics under the Virginia Human Rights Act, and allows for higher criminal penalties if a victim is intentionally selected based on this trait.Hate Crime Victim Protections (2026): A bill was enacted that prevents law enforcement from publicly disclosing information that identifies a hate crime victim, and allows victims to request that their names be omitted from appellate court decisions to protect them from harassment.State Police Repository (2024): Virginia law requires the State Police to maintain a central Department of State Police Hate Crimes Repository to track and analyze reported incidents.

It appears that Virginia’s are either electing Representatives that are ignorant to current laws and want redundancy for specific specific special treatment or to villainize a specific demographic of Virginians (Christians)

No one has brought forth legislation that outlaws having sexual relations with a farm animal. That’s because we already have laws;
Virginia does not have a specific, named statute for that particular act, and it is prosecuted under broader animal cruelty laws.The law actually addresses this scenario through a combination of general animal welfare statutes and historical code revisions:The Legal Framework in VirginiaClass 1 Misdemeanor Prosecution: Under Virginia Code § 3,2-6570, any person who “tortures, ill-treats, abandons, willfully inflicts inhumane injury or pain… or cruelly treats any animal” is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. Prosecutors use the “ill-treats” and “inflicts inhumane injury or pain” clauses to charge individuals in these cases.The Felony Threshold: If the act results in the death of the animal or causes serious bodily injury, the charge can be elevated to a Class 6 felony under the same statute.Why There Isn’t a Specific Named StatuteVirginia used to have a specific, historical law on the books known as the “Crimes Against Nature” statute (Virginia Code § 18.2-361). This law explicitly criminalized both consensual same-sex acts between humans and any sexual acts with animals.

MS Jeanine,
Thanks again for allowing me to exercise Free Speech in our Country’s 250th Anniversary because sometimes Free Speech exposes others motives for special treatment at the demise of others.
