According to School of Athens blog the real reason Sweet Briar is closing is not because they don’t have money (they do) but because Disney wants the land for another big Disney amusement park. Â It helps explain why our attorney general is arguing in court briefs to close the school immediately. This is terrible for the girls who were enrolled at Sweet Briar and hoped to graduate over the next three years. Â No matter. Disney is more important. Â Read the article.Â

this is nothing but rumor and conjecture based on nothing other than an anonymous blogger’s theory and bogus claims.
nice try, it even made the local talk radio this morning.
get over it people. sweet briar is gone.
for better or worse.
she’s gone.
bye bye.
LOL why are you people picking up a pure crap article and citing it as a source? Disney isn’t coming to VA. All you are doing is stirring up rumor and misinformation. What happened to RESEARCHING before posting an article?
This is absurd for so many reasons…not everything is a conspiracy.
I’d put a question mark after your headline.
Look at the transportation infrastructure, no way Disney locates that far away from an Interstate highway.
also, you have to figure that Disney reads Va news. So many of our legislators who voted for the last transportation bill/tax increase have been primaried. Even if Disney thinks the Commonwealth will spend big money on roads to get tourists to Amherst, I doubt the General Assembly would be willing.
who thinks Liberty Univ wants this land?
You’ve got to balance the economic pros and cons to the Commonwealth, the region and the Virginians living in that area on this. Undoubtedly, Disney would have a much greater economic impact than Sweet Briar. Emotionally you have to feel for the kids enrolled there as well as the alums, but ultimately from a logical standpoint if these are the two options then you’d have to go with Disney.
