In 2016 the American people had the temerity, the impertinence, to elect Donald J. Trump to the presidency over a score of others contenders, any of whom the Washington establishment – the ruling class – considered more fit for office that the flamboyant billionaire from Queens.
“Fit for office” in Washington lingo means that the other candidates were malleable; team players. They were slick and polished insiders who knew how to speak ambiguous words somberly in front of a microphone and how to raise lots of money at $1000 a plate dinners. To a person these candidates were firm believers in not upsetting the apple cart of the new world order that has been under construction for four decades on.
After all, Trump voters were simply “smelly Walmart people” as former FBI official Peter Strzok infamously labeled them in an internal email. Or, as candidate Hillary Clinton characterized them – “deplorables.”
Self-described conservative commentators like Kevin D. Williamson and David French went so far as to attack the “white” lower class whom they, incorrectly as it turned out, presumed were the core of Donald Trump’s support. The white lower class were identified by “dysfunction,” “crassness,” and “vulgarity” and their addictions to drugs and sloth.
(I had to re-read their commentaries several times because I thought by their descriptions they were talking about the Hollywood–New York-Washington axis of powerful and moneyed elites, silly me.)
Of course, all of this is twaddle. Most of Mr. Trump’s voters were – are – as complex and as varied as is the man himself.
Most of his voters were sick of the sewer that the national government has devolved into, and tired of electing people who said they’d fix problems, only to find that they had no intention of fixing anything but their own bank accounts.
Other voters were appalled at the staggering corruption, lawbreaking and profiteering of Hillary Clinton and her crony’s.
Still others realistically appraised Mr. Trump and saw a man on a mission to rescue the American dream. He was a brash, sometimes vulgar, self-centered and a complex medley of often contradictory instincts. But above all he was authentic and passionate about getting the nation that President Obama had derailed, back on the tracks to prosperity and moving forward.
Many Christians saw him like the ancient Persian King, Cyrus, who freed the Jewish slaves in the Old Testament; anointed with “title and honor” to accomplish specific tasks for God, even if he didn’t know or understand the call, or even acknowledge it.
None of these, of course, were how the governing elite of America saw him. He was their worst nightmare. They saw a man who had the cheek to think himself able to prosper the Republic at home and abroad. That was his mortal sin.
He called past policy makers – them – “stupid” and accused them, correctly, of willingly putting the interests of other nations above the interests of hard working Americans. He ridiculed their seclusion from the working men and women of the country, then shined the light of truth on their obsequious kowtowing to every pronounced enemy of freedom on the planet.
Worse still, he thought Americans wanted to be proud of who and what they were, not continually self-flagellating themselves for the successes of the American experiment in a world where too often failure is the primary social descriptor.
But, as we now know thanks to the email and text chains released under Freedom of Information requests, testimony before the Congress, and document caches that are slowly making their way into the public domain, even before Mr. Trump was elected a cabal in the dark reaches of the government set into motion a chain of events that has led us to today.
The first shot was the ridiculous Russian “dossier” whose creation was paid for by the Clinton campaign and that was then re-purposed by the FBI and spread around town to various news outlets by the characterless former FBI Director, James “Light-fingers” Comey.
The nation now has to endure the never ending “Russian collusion” scandal, dragging on in monotone, like an ancient death chant, performed by the national media, and accompanied by the ruling sect of politicians of both parties and the vast, imperial administrative state – assembled around the gallows of lies they have erected upon which they hope to hoist Donald J. Trump.
The chant goes on.
The latest news cycle intones that that Michael Cohen, President Trump’s erstwhile attorney plead guilty to various tax and fraud transgressions uncovered by the Special Counsel, Robert Mueller, none of which involved the President, and most importantly the speculative crime of breaking campaign finance laws at then candidate Trump’s direction to pay off two ladies who claimed they had affairs with the then businessman.
The only problem is that most knowledgeable observers, including a former Federal Election Commission Chairman, report that paying so-called “hush money” to someone for personal indiscretions with one’s own money is not illegal, and predated the campaign in any event.
But Mr. Cohen plead guilty so there will be no trail and no evidence presented to judge the legality of his assertion, in either Russian or English.
However, the plea is a token to take Mr. Trump’s supposed dalliances into the public. The moral preening is disgusting. At least in President Trump’s case there is no suggestion these alleged trysts were anything but consensual.
This moral posturing stands in blinding contrast, coming as it does from a news media that is drowning in its own sexual scandals of abuse and debauchery; or Washington, home to the Kennedy’s, Clinton’s, and the sexual sewer that is Capitol Hill, where no gender or age is safe if one measures by past performance that we do know about. Or, forbid it, Hollywood.
The irony is lost on the President’s critics, of course.
In addition, a top Washington lobbyist and political insider, Paul Manafort who basically worked less than one hundred days as the Campaign Manager for Trump Campaign, was found guilty on eight of eighteen counts of tax evasion and various reporting violations, all of which predated his even knowing Mr. Trump personally.
Not only did Mr. Mueller’s team of twenty Democrat prosecutors fail to secure convictions on over half of the charges, there was not a single Russian to be found in that stack either.
Your humble commentator has been writing since February of 2017 on the this entire sordid mess (samples here, here, here and here in order) and has proposed previously that there was more evidence for the existence of Bigfoot than there was evidence to implicate the President in any wrong doing, much less colluding with the Russians. Remarkably, nothing has changed in the preceding year and a half. The linked articles are as accurate now as they were in the winter and spring of 2017.
However, there is actual video evidence of former President Obama colluding with the Russian President prior to the 2012 Presidential election. And the evidence of collusion of the previous Administration has grown extensively in the past year, as the systemic corruption at the top of the Department of Justice, the FBI and broader intelligence community has been revealed through internal documents and communications. Not to mention the incredible corruption of pay-to-play deals and influence peddling at the highest levels of government.
Fixing these institutions cannot be left to the politicians.
It is possibly the biggest scandal in American political history and is being largely ignored not only by the radical left and the Democrats, but by their major media benefactors. The power of omission is powerful indeed.
The Mueller investigation, as fraudulent as its namesake, now moves on to other non-germane items as it relates to Russian collusion. It turns its attention to the Trump businesses and family, all of which predates the election entirely. It’s all merely a means to run a years’ long investigation unbounded by the messy legalities the rest of us have to follow.
The investigation and its lack of boundaries has turned a historically corrupt cop, Mr. Mueller, loose on the land and justice may never be the same.
To accomplish a putsch – a coup – the ruling class have assembled an army of desperadoes to take power from President Trump. They have declared war on the rule of law – and in so doing, the American people for daring to elect this man.
In the end, this fight isn’t even about Donald Trump at all. It’s about who runs this country. It’s about Constitutional government. It’s about the rule of law. And there will be no runner up.
