Post Reporter Laura Vozzella has done her homework, investigating the story for months, concluding that there was a secret plan to expand medicaid without the approval of the legislature. Our own Steve Albertson tried for nearly a year to get someone to pay attention to what he had found in McDonnell’s budget deal, a provision that would allow McAuliffe to expand Medicaid on his own.
When Senator Dick Black read this article in The Bull Elephant he saw the truth and took the fight to the General Assembly. The grassroots sprung into action using #BlackorBust to put pressure on the legislators to take action that would prevent Governor McAuliffe from unilaterally expanding Medicaid.
Without Steve Albertson and this blog, Virginia would have medicaid expansion, the biggest welfare expansion in our state’s history since the Great Society 50 years ago. In coming years we would be facing huge tax increases to cover the BILLIONS of dollars that medicaid expansion would have cost us. As one legislator said ‘the transportation tax increases would pale in comparison to what we would have to pay for medicaid expansion’.
In the coming days we will have more comments on the Vozzella article and our near miss on medicaid expansion in Virginia. The entire Post article is worth a read.
UPDATE: Redstate.com has also covered the story, referring to The Bull Elephant as ‘conservative watchdogs’. Read their story here.
