Today Britain will vote to remain in the European union or leave it. The polls open at 7:00 am which is 2:00 am EDT. The polls close in England at 10:00pm which is 5:00 pm in our time zone. In England it is illegal to report on any exit polls prior to the polls closing.
The first results should be in around 11:30 pm their time, 6:30 pm our time. By 10:00 to 11:00 our time half of the votes will be in and by midnight 80% of the votes should be counted. At some time overnight there should be enough votes reported for the Electoral Commission to report the likely outcome. The polls show the vote to remain in the EU or leave is in a dead heat. British Prime Minister David Cameron’s job may be on the line. He is pushing hard for England to vote to ‘remain’. He does not believe the EU is failing:
“We are not shackled to a corpse,” he said. “You can see the European economy’s recovery. It’s the largest single market in the world.”
