Which areas of the Old Dominion spent the most money on the recent Powerball lottery?  See the map and details here.  Who would have thought Manassas City would spend $16.35 per capita on Powerball tickets?  Fairfax City and Falls Church City spent even more, $21.49 and $38.80 respectively.  What’s with people in the cities spending such large amounts on the lottery?

It astounds me how much money people will piddle away. From the article, “In Virginia we spent more than $35 million…” $35M down the drain on a single lottery draw! Gambling is such a waste of hard-earned money. You couldn’t get people in Virginia to donate $35M for anything in a single week and here they go and blow it away on nothing. Crumple up your dollar bills and burn them. At least you’ll get a little heat.
It’s a regressive tax, impacting the poor the most.
It’s also an economy killer. Yes, the poorest spend a disproportional amount of their income and all that money down the tube is money that they would have otherwise spent in the local economy. Instead, it gets siphoned off and does no good.
