“Tuesday’s election had record low turnout for a Democratic presidential primary. Republican turnout was near the average for previous years. Each party has only had six presidential primaries in Virginia since 1988, the first year with a state-run primary. Other years had a party run caucus or convention if they held a nomination contest at all.
