Conservative Bob Good has beaten incumbent Congressman Denver Riggleman to be the Republican nominee for Congress in Virginia’s 5th district. Good said he won with 58% of the vote.
Fifth District Committee Chairman Melvin Adams said 2,537 delegates voted on Saturday. More than 3,500 were registered.
Hundreds of delegates drove for an hour or more to the site of the convention, the Tree of Life church in Lynchburg, and then waited in line for another hour to vote. The convention ended at 7:00 pm but results were not available until 1:20 am. It seems Denver Riggleman and his lawyers/consultants tried to challenge the votes cast from Campbell County among others so the start of ballot counting was delayed by 3+ hours.
At midnight Riggleman said:
Voting irregularities and ballot stuffing has been reported in multiple counties in the #VA05. Voter fraud has been a hallmark of this nomination process and I will not stand for it. @VA_GOP needs to reevaluate their priorities. We are evaluating all our options at this time.
When Bob Good was asked about the accusations from the Riggleman campaign he said “That’s what losers say.”
