It was almost one year ago when I wrote one of my first blog posts, entitled “Character Counts.” In that piece I make the argument that the arrival of the Clinton Presidency changed the face of American politics for the worse by making character and integrity an afterthought, and placing the “win at all costs” mentality front and center in people’s minds. It didn’t matter what you did or what you said. It didn’t matter if you were a liar and a cheat. It only mattered if you won the election.
Bill Clinton is a despicable human being. He is a serial adulterer and rapist who used his position of influence and power to force himself on young women. Republicans at the time warned about the flaws in his character, yet he was elected anyway.
Bill Clinton sank the Democrat party into the mud where it has wallowed ever since. He continued his lying and adulterous ways, even to the point of preying on a girl young enough to be his daughter. When caught, he repeatedly denied it happened until DNA evidence showed conclusively that the accusations were true. After that the line of, “it’s just sex, and everybody lies about that,” was the order of the day.
Previously honorable men and women in the Democrat party put aside their integrity to defend his adultery, his sexual abuse, and his lying because he was “their guy.” Talking heads in the media gave up any pretense of journalistic integrity in order to defend “their guy.”
Republican members of the House and Senate took to the floor and the airwaves to denounce the unconscionable behavior of Bill Clinton. Conservative talking heads drove home the message that this type of behavior is inexcusable, and should not be tolerated. We called for Clinton to be impeached, then prosecuted, because of his deplorable behavior.
It didn’t stop with Bill Clinton, either. The scorn for sexual impropriety continued with the horrid Anthony Weiner, sending naked pictures of himself, along with lewd sexual content, to strange girls on Twitter. He was run out of office, and is currently a disgrace that has been attacked publicly by none other than Donald Trump.
Pervert alert. @RepWeiner is back on twitter. All girls under the age of 18, block him immediately.

My comment last March – “Anthony Weiner is a sick pervert, you think he will change? He will never change.” http://t.co/uF5F0FbwGd

Sexual pervert Anthony Weiner has zero business holding public office.

Here in Virginia, we have Fightin’ Joe Morrissey, who preyed on an underage girl working in his office and got her pregnant. Republicans in Virginia demanded he resign in disgrace because of this issue.
Now the shoe is on the other foot, and the same people who condemned Bill Clinton, and Anthony Weiner, and Joe Morrissey, are standing up to defend Donald Trump. They are debasing themselves and destroying their credibility in order to excuse the very same behavior they attacked Democrat lawmakers for.
“It’s just locker room talk,” they say. (No, it’s not)
“All men talk like that,” they say. (No. They really don’t)
“It was 11 years ago,” they say. (He was about 60 years old)
Their shame knows no bounds as they even point to the very man who was their previous object of scorn in order to excuse the behavior of “their guy.”
“Hey, Bill Clinton did it, too,” they say.
In a particularly surreal moment of the campaign, Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, and Juanita Broaddrick, all victims of Bill Clinton, held a press conference with Donald Trump to advocate for his election. That’s right. The victims of a sexual predator want you to elect another sexual predator President. The difference? This sexual predator didn’t abuse THEM. After all, he’s “their guy.”
How far we have fallen.
The Republican Party has been dragged down into the mud of immorality, indecency, and depravity. It is wallowing right beside the Democrats, all to satisfy the ego of a man who has always held himself out to be better than other people, a man who thinks his money and influence gives him the right to force himself onto young women. This is not a man who was having a “private conversation in the locker room.” This is a man wearing a MICROPHONE on his shirt, giving an INTERVIEW TO A FRICKIN’ REPORTER, bragging about cheating on his wife and forcing himself on young women!!!!” He doesn’t care who hears him. He knows he is being recorded. To Trump it doesn’t matter, because he’s rich and famous, and he can do what he wants.
Just like Bill Clinton.
But it doesn’t stop there. You can’t forget about his bragging to Howard Stern about walking into the dressing room at the Miss Universe pageant when they were all changing clothes.
Don’t forget about the woman he tried to force himself on in little Ivanka’s bedroom when he was married to Marla Maples.
Caught in a political Catch-22, some Republicans who were “early adopters” of Trump are torpedoing what’s left of their integrity in an attempt to defend the indefensible. Sen. Jeff Sessions gave an interview in which he tried to outdo Bill Clinton’s redefinition of the word “is” by claiming that grabbing a woman by the genitals is NOT something he would “characterize as sexual assault.” Hey, Sen. Sessions, if Bill Clinton walked up to your daughter and grabbed her genitals, would you characterize THAT as sexual assault??
Corey Stewart didn’t do himself any favors either when, as a candidate running for the Republican nomination for Governor of VA, he helped organize a protest of the Republican Party outside RNC Headquarters. Protest attendees were seen to be holding signs like this:
Aren’t you just so proud of our party right now? Ladies, get your daughters dressed up nice and head them over to this guy’s house. I bet he’s single.
Corey was actually fired from the Trump campaign for this stunt.
Yes, yes, yes…I know the way the argument goes. I have been hearing it for months and months now…
WE CAN’T LET HILLARY WIN!!!
THINK ABOUT THE JUDGES! THE JUDGES!!!
OPEN BORDERS!!!
The problem is these arguments went out the window the moment Trump secured the nomination.
Donald Trump never led Hillary Clinton in the polls during the primaries.
Donald Trump has never led Hillary Clinton in the polls during the general. The closest he came was to create a virtual tie right after the Republican convention.
Donald Trump has never demonstrated his ability to win more than 165 electoral votes according to the Real Clear Politics average, and he is struggling to hold states the Republicans haven’t lost in over 40 years.
If we REALLY wanted to stop Hillary from becoming President, or put a conservative in Scalia’s seat on the court, or do something about illegal immigration, maybe we shouldn’t have nominated the one candidate Hillary could actually beat! Maybe we shouldn’t have nominated the candidate the media was practically BEGGING us to pick as our standard bearer. Just like they picked McCain, and just like they picked Romney, the media couldn’t have made their choice clearer when they gave Trump the equivalent of $2 Billion of free air time during the primaries.
So now our party is caught in a death spiral of shame and defeat. Party leaders are standing behind Trump because they have no choice. They will be purged otherwise.
Republican elected officials are withdrawing their endorsements from Trump and are now being targeted for defeat by Trump supporters, putting our control of the Senate, and even the House, in jeopardy.
If Trump loses, he will claim the race was rigged, and all his most ardent supporters will blame everyone but themselves and their candidate for the loss. This will further fracture the Republican Party into little bitty pieces, effectively ending the two-party system of government in America, creating a one-party, Democrat regime.
In the meantime, everyone is holding their breath hoping that nothing else will come out about Trump.
But it will…and it will most likely be worse.
How do I know? Because we still have four more weeks until Election Day. Surely you don’t think the Democrats would fire their best shot this early, do you? Heaven’s no. Like a frog sitting in a pot of water, the Democrats and the media are slowly turning the heat up on the Republicans, forcing them into the position of excusing increasingly worse and worse behavior in order to defend Donald Trump.
For the last two weeks the Democrats have dropped a damaging story about Trump on Friday which has dominated the airwaves. Two Fridays ago Republicans were forced into the position of defending the practice of writing off $1 Billion dollar loss for your company as a personal loss, and using that loss to avoid paying Federal Income taxes for 20 years as “brilliant tax strategy.” (All the investors in Trump’s companies who lost their shirts probably disagree with that assessment.)
Last Friday, Republicans were forced into the position of defending a sexual predator.
I shudder to think what we will be forced to defend next.
