(Press Release)
On Monday, March 6, 2023, Congressman Bob Good (R-5th District) endorsed Republican Eric Zehr in the race for the District 51 seat in the House of Delegates.
Zehr represented Rustburg District on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors from 2014-2018. Zehr and Good served together on the Campbell Board from 2016-2018. Zehr also served as chairman of the Campbell County Republicans from 2015-2018.
In his statement endorsing Zehr, Rep. Good said,
“I am proud to enthusiastically endorse my good friend, Eric Zehr, for the Republican nomination for the 51st District House of Delegates seat. Eric and I served together on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors, and he has consistently demonstrated that he is a principled and courageous conservative warrior. Eric is a true patriot, who will bring the fight to Richmond for limited government, lower taxes, the sanctity of life, our 2nd Amendment rights, and our nation’s founding principles. Please join me in supporting Eric Zehr for the House of Delegates!”
joining Rep. Good in endorsing Zehr are Campbell supervisor Steve Shockley (R-Sunburst), former Campbell supervisors Mike Rousseau (R-Timberlake) and Jim Borland (R-Spring Hill), former Bedford supervisor Annie Pollard (R-Dist. 6) and current Bedford County Supervisor, Mickey Johnson (R – Dist. 1).
Zehr had already received endorsements from Campbell County supervisors Justin Carwile (R-Timberlake District) and Matt Cline (R-Concord) and Bedford County supervisors John Sharp (R-Dist.4) and Tommy Scott (R-Dist. 5). He is also endorsed by former Fifth Congressional District GOP chairman Melvin Adams (Bedford), Virginia Freedom Fighters leader Mary Katherine Bennett (Bedford), Campbell County Militia captain Dan Abbott, former Campbell GOP chairman and current Planning Commissioner Will Kirk, and Altavista town councilman Reggie Bennett.
“I am grateful for Congressman Good’s endorsement of our transformative conservative campaign,” Zehr said. “Bob has led the fight for freedom in Washington, D.C., supporting the right to life, the Second Amendment, election integrity, parents’ rights and educational freedom, and American energy independence. These are the same issues on which I will lead the fight in Richmond, representing the 51st District.”
“I thank all the current and former elected officials who have endorsed our campaign,” Zehr said. “These men and women understand that we need a courageous conservative Republican leading the fight for our values, our families, and our freedoms in Richmond. That is why they stand with me in this fight.”
Finally, Zehr thanked the countless voters across the 51st District and Central Virginia who have supported his campaign. “Countless folks across the district and across Central Virginia have donated sacrificially, signed up to support me for the nomination, and brought their friends and neighbors to support our campaign. The voters of the 51st District are tired of extremist Democrats in Washington and Richmond robbing us of our freedoms. They are ready to fight back. They are ready to send a fighter to Richmond. And I look forward to being their voice in the House of Delegates.”
ISSUES
Zehr, a small farmer and small businessman who owns American House Wash in Rustburg, said his campaign is focusing on five key issues.
The Sanctity of Life: “On Day One, I will introduce “Life at Conception” legislation, to fulfill the commitment in our Declaration of Independence that our nation will defend all innocent human life, an unalienable right endowed by our Creator,” Zehr said.
Election Integrity: “On Day One, I will introduce legislation to vote only on Election Day instead of election season, to end no-excuse mail-in voting and its invitation to fraud, and to require an auditable paper trail for all ballots,” Zehr said.
Parental rights, educational choice and an end to far-left indoctrination in schools: “Virginia parents have rejected the Democrats’ extremist attempts to propagandize our children with hateful and divisive agendas like so-called ‘critical race theory.’” Zehr said. “They have rejected the Democrats’ radical efforts to impose self-destructive ‘transgender surgeries’ on our children behind their parents’ backs. I will lead the fight to put parents, not left-wing bureaucrats, back in charge of their children’s education. I will fight to make true educational freedom possible for all Virginia parents to determine the best school for their children.”
Constitutional Carry: “I will lead the fight for constitutional carry legislation in Virginia, joining 30 other states that recognize the right of citizens to bear arms in self-defense as a fundamental right,” Zehr said.
Energy Independence: “I will lead the fight to unlock Virginia’s natural resources. I will lead the fight to unchain Virginia from California’s destructive ‘Green Raw Deal’ policies, which are costing Virginia families dearly,” Zehr said
